ハンズオン東京事務局長任命のお知らせ
Hands On Tokyo Appoints Full-Time Executive Director

この度ハンズオン東京では、 2009年7月1日付で千葉 マージョリーをフルタイムの事務局長に任命いたしましたことをご報告させていただきます。千葉はハンズオン東京設立当初からの理事会メンバーであると同時に、ボランティアとして副理事の仕事を務めて参りました。
設立以来、エグゼクティブ・ディレクターとして活動してきたマルセラ・カンポスにつきましては、理事会メンバーとして今後も引き続きハンズオン東京でリーダー的な役割を担います。昨年1年間、カンポスはプログラム・マネージャーの立神 由美子、そしてボランティアの理事たちと共に、ハンズオン東京の成長を見届けました。当初400名だった登録ボランティアは1000名を超え、ボランティア・プログラムは4つから9つになり、スポンサー企業は4社から16社になりました。昨年ハンズオン東京のボランティアたちは、3000時間以上を東京コミュニティに還元することができました。
ハンズオン東京の代表理事であるＤ．スティーブン・リンは、カンポスについて以下のようにコメントしております。「マルセラはハンズオン東京にたくさんの貢献をしてくれました。パートタイムであったにもかかわらず、あらゆるシーンで組織の活動基盤を作り上げてくれた彼女には、たいへん感謝しています。」
コミュニティ・サービスがより活発になってくるに従って、ハンズオン東京ではフルタイムで活動できる事務局長の必要性を感じるようになり、この度千葉を事務局長として任命いたしました。彼女が持つボランティア精神とハンズオン東京に対する強い使命感と責任感、起業家として日本で小規模なビジネスを展開してきた経験、そして25年にも及ぶ日本での居住歴は、組織に多大な恩恵を与えてくれると確信しています。千葉は事務局長としての責務を果たすため、20年間代表取締役として務めてきたアドバンス・インターナショナル有限会社（アメリカの幾つかの州の在日観光局。米国の旅行会社、ホテル、観光関連企業などと業務提携）を退くことになります。彼女は会社運営だけでなく、日本での生活の中でもDemocrats Abroad Japanやジョージタウン大学同窓会をはじめ、さまざまな組織でリーダー的役割を果たし、地域社会に貢献してきました。
以下は千葉からの事務局長就任においてのメッセージです。
「この度ハンズオン東京の事務局長に任命され、たいへん光栄に思っております。ハンズオン東京の自由でフレキシブルな参加型ボランティア・プロジェクトの概念は新しい考え方ではありますが、 地域社会の中で助けを必要としている人たちに、自分の時間を割いて手を差し伸べたいと考えている人たちがたくさんいるということを、 過去2年間の実績が示してくれました。今後もＮＰＯ法人のパートナーの皆さまやスポンサー企業の方々、そしてボランティアの皆さまたちと密に接し、協力しあうことでハンズオン東京が目指している"有意義なボランティア活動"の更なる拡大を目指していきたいと思っております。」
July 13, 2009 - Hands On Tokyo is pleased to announce that Marjorie Dewey Chiba has been appointed full-time Executive Director effective July 1, 2009. Marjorie is a founding board member of Hands On Tokyo and has served as Vice Chair on a volunteer basis since inception.
Founding Executive Director, Marcela Campos, will continue to play a leadership role as a board member. During the last year, Marcela, together with HOT Program Manager, Yumiko Tategami, and the volunteer Board of Directors, oversaw the growth of Hands On Tokyo from 400 to over 1,000 volunteers, from four to nine volunteer programs, and from four to 16 corporate sponsors. HOT volunteers gave back over 3,000 hours of service to the Tokyo community in 2008.
"We are grateful for Marcela's contributions to HOT," stated D. Steven Lin, Chairman of Hands On Tokyo. "While technically part-time yet dedicating much more, Marcela successfully built a foundation of volunteers, programs, donors, and staff."
In order to serve our community in a time of increasing need, Hands On Tokyo recognized the need for a full-time Executive Director. HOT will benefit greatly from Marjorie's demonstrated commitment to community service and Hands On Tokyo, her leadership experience managing a small business as an entrepreneur in Japan, and her 25 years as a Japan resident. In order to take on her executive responsibilities at HOT, Marjorie will transition from a 20-year career as President of Advance International, Ltd., a travel and tourism marketing and representation firm representing U.S. state tourism offices, hotel companies and travel and tourism suppliers. Throughout her years in Japan, Marjorie has demonstrated a commitment to the local community through leadership positions within Democrats Abroad Japan, the Georgetown University Alumni Association, and a number of professional organizations.
"I am honored and humbled to take on the role of Executive Director for HOT" said Marjorie. "While the concept of flexible, project-based volunteering is still new to Tokyo, the last two years have shown the people of our community are ready and eager to give of their time to help others in need. I look forward to working closely with our NPO partners, donors, and especially our volunteers to enhance and expand HOT's menu of meaningful service opportunities."
