FEDECARES in the Dominican Republic
|
| FEDECARES was born out of the necessity to rebuild the coffee regions after the devastating Cyclone David hit the Dominican Republic in 1979. The producers understood that by joining forces, they would become stronger. They began by creating an individual community association. Then in 1983, 60 different community associations came together to form the regional structure known as "Federacion de Caficultores de la Region Sur" (FEDECARES). This non-for profit organization was legally recognized in August 1991. Since then, it has grown to include 134 associations in 13 different provinces. The main office of FEDECARES is located in the city of San Cristóbal.

The 411 On The Food We Serve: Local Always Tastes Better!
Elizabeth Ki zito is probably one of the most well known women in Louisville. Most locals have seen "the cookie lady" vending delicious treats out of a basket (that she carries atop her head) at local events like baseball games at Louisville Slugger Field. Kizito's delicious baked goodies have been a part of the Heine Brothers' tradition almost as long as we've been in business. You many not be aware, but this talented baker is responsible for more than just the scrumptious cookies we serve. In fact, her bakery delivers fresh-baked muffins, biscotti, and granola to each of our seven stores every morning. Elizabeth Kizito's pastries are never frozen- always fresh from the oven- and because of this, we are proud to support her and her business. By teaming with fellow local businesses, we've been able to make great locally produced food available to our patrons for nearly 16 years. We think that fresh food tastes better than the preservative-filled stuff you may find in other establishments around town. Have you ever tried a Kizito cookie? After your first taste, we're sure you'll agree that local really IS better! |

Local Deals Support Local Economy
In the last few months, numerous "daily deal" websites have popped up in Louisville, all of them vying for a chunk of the local market. Well just last week, a local version of this popular business model was launched by the local chamber of commerce, better known as Greater Louisville Inc (GLI). Similar to its predecessors, Try It Local works with businesses to deliver incredible discounts to subscribers on a daily basis. What's unique about GLI's version is that because it is operated by the local chamber of commerce (and not a company based in New York or Chicago) more of the funds raised by daily promotions actually does get filtered back into Louisville's economy. In addition, Try It Local takes a much smaller cut than it's competitors making it much easier and more affordable for local businesses to offer crazy deals to folks in town. So, what are you waiting for? Check out TryItLocal.com today!
