Cafe Timor
|
| Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT) was founded in the wake of the destruction of much of East Timor after it gained independence from Indonesia in 1999. In 2000, a group of farmers, in an attempt to successfully market their coffee internationally, united to form CCT. Today, the organization has grown to include 19,600 members from 16 base cooperatives and 494 small-scale farmer groups. CCT obtained Fair Trade certification from Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) in 2001 and has since greatly benefited from the Fair Trade price.

One of the newest items to be added to our selection of retail products is Lake Champlain Hot Chocolate. This hot chocolate is exactly how drinking chocolate was meant to taste: rich, aromatic, full bodied, and deeply satisfying. Made with organic and fair trade sugar and cocoa, this is a drink you can feel good about sipping on. Sit in front of the fire (or space heater) some chilly night and drink in the warmth with a mug of this decadent cocoa! Available at each of our seven Louisville locations. |

The Best Part of Waking Up, Is Green In Your Cup!
There are a lot of habits that we have in our everyday lives that contribute to the problems of waste and pollution in our community. Luckily, our morning cup-a-joe doesn't have to be be harmful to the environment. Below are a few easy ways that you can make your coffee habit a more sustainable one:
Buy a reusable travel mug. Not only is coffee less wasteful when you aren't using a paper to-go cup, its cheaper! Most coffee shops (HBC included) offer a discount for bringing in your own cup. Bring in your own mug and get to savin'.
Order your coffee in a MUG. Its not a myth, coffee actually does taste better in a mug... at least in my opinion! Not only are you saving a paper cup when you order your coffee "for here", but you are also consciously electing to add a bit of mellow to your busy day. Why rush back out into the cold? Sit for a while and enjoy your coffee or tea without the hurry.
Compost your coffee grounds. Composting is an easy way to turn a waste product into a resource for your garden (or your friend's ga rden). If you have a compost bin and you aren't composting your coffee and tea, you should begin today! If you'd like more info on starting your own compost pile, click here!
Buy organically grown coffee. When you buy organically grown coffee, you are buying coffee that has never been sprayed with harmful chemicals. This means that there is no chemical residue on the beans you'll use to brew your coffee and no harm has been done by such chemicals to the local ground water in farming communities. Organic farming is ensuring us healthy bodies and a healthy planet.

Photo of the Month

Painted by a customer many years ago, this picture depicts a scene at our Chenoweth Lane store. Those of you who frequent this quaint shop will recognize the pattern on the coffee table, our checkered tile floor and the over grown ficus tree in the back ground.
