KNCU has been in the coffee business for a long time. Its roots go back
to 1933 when it was founded as a registered union under Tanzania's
Cooperative Societies Ordinance. After the government dissolved the
union in the 1970s (along with the rest of the Tanzania's
unions/cooperatives), it took over a decade for KNCU to reestablish
itself. Currently, the Union trades coffee with 67 Primary Cooperative
Societies, representing 60,000 farmer members.

| HBC Customer Newsletter
October 2009 |
Greetings!
On October 1, 1994 owners Mike and Gary opened the first Heine Brothers' Coffee shop- a walk-in store front with a roaster in the same room. This month our company and that cozy little cafe on Longest Avenue are celebrating 15 years of coffee, community, and magic. Its been a wonderful journey so far- filled with good times and challenges, with friendship and love. We're so glad you've invited us into your lives each day. Thank you, Louisville, for 15 wonderful years. We hope its been as fun for you as it has for us!

Ronda's Blend and the Center: Coffee for a good cause.
Our partnership with the Center for Women and Families is one that began shortly after we opened our first store in 1994. Since then, our staff members have donated thousands of dollars each year from the tips they receive while working in our cafes. In additio n to staff donations, 50 cents from each bag of Ronda's Blend we sell is donated to the CFWF. This amounts to hundreds of dollars each year- a donation that would not be possible without your help.
The Center for Women and Families has been serving the Louisville area since 1912. Originally a YWCA, The Center is now a private non-profit agency serving fourteen counties in Kentucky and Indiana. This amazing organization engages individuals and community in the elimination of domestic violence, sexual violence and economic hardship through service, education and advocacy.
Ronda's Blend was created to celebrate the life of Ronda Mahaffey, our former co-worker, friend and family member. This full-bodied brew is a blend of three of our favorite coffees: Mexico Chiapas, Nicaragua, and Ethiopia Sidamo. We think you'll find this blend to be as vibrant and unforgettable as we do. With each cup of Ronda's Blend that you brew at home, you are helping to make our community safer for women, children and families alike. Now that's a purchase that you can feel good about! Thank you.

Photo of the Month

Taken at our 15th Anniversary party, here's a photo of Rachel the manager at our Longest Avenue store. Rachel braved the cold and the rain to serve coffee that night from the original Heine Brothers' Coffee cart. This cart hasn't seen the light of day for quite a few years- anybody out there remember it???
