In Memory of Bill Seay

It is with sadness and thankfulness we write this newsletter in memory of Bill Seay. What a blessing it was in our lives to get to know and minister alongside this dear man and his loving wife Merle. Although we are members of the same church it was not until we traveled together with Bill and Merle on a mission trip that we really got to know this special couple. They were both naturals on the mission field. Their love for Christ was quite evident and a great example to those they ministered to. One night during sharing time Bill expressed how much the mission trips to Nicaragua had meant to him and how he wished he had taken one a lot sooner. Little did he know at that time the trial that lie ahead, but God did.

Even though we may not understand every trial one thing is for sure, Bill Seay made every day of his life count for the glory of God. I think everyone who knew Bill would say "Bill was a true man of God, a missionary no matter where he was. We are so thankful that God allowed us time to get to know Bill and Merle first hand and see their love for God, their love for one another, and their love for others.

We are so thankful to God that He touched our hearts with love for this couple. Even though we only saw them occasionally God was always bringing them to our hearts and mind to lift them up in prayer. Many memories are still so vivid in our minds. One was seeing Merle and Bill teach a lesson at the Casa Mephobsheth orphanage. Another was watching Bill perform in a skit for children Jonah and the whale. It brings a smile to our face now as we think back to those days. There were many Sunday afternoons that we would run into Bill and Merle at a little restaurant in our hometown after church. One of the last times we saw Bill he was right in front of us in a line where we listened to him share a testimony with a man who was not in church anywhere. Bill was a man who was faithful to share his love of Christ no matter where he was. He was on a mission for God and now he is with God. Yes, we're sad that Bill is no longer with us here. We will greatly miss this man and his influence on our lives, but we are thankful for the time we had with him and the example he was to us for so many years.

Our prayers and love go to Merle and the entire Seay family in these difficult days. We pray you have peace in the knowledge that friends all around are lifting you up to God in prayer.

Corinthians 1:3-5 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows." (NIV)

North Greenville University

North Greenville University (NGU) students used their Spring Break to minister with Chosen Children Ministries in Nicaragua.  The team, made up of 5 students and one professor, worked together with a team from Boiling Springs to set up medical clinics in needy barrios.  The NGU students used these opportunities to spend time with the children; lavishing on them love and attention, and sharing Bible stories with them.  Also, some were able to work with the patients who came to the clinics, in addition to some small building projects.  The group loved spending time with the Nicauraguan people.  We "painted faces, did mini Bible schools, danced the chicken dance and ran the dusty barrio streets with them.  We had a blast." Out of all that the team did, sharing the Bible stories and the love of Christ with the small Nicaraguan children is one of the best memories from the trip.

It is always such a blessing and honor for me to be a part of a mission trip to Nicaragua. This was our second medical trip and God brought together just the right team to accomplish what He had planned for us. The team was made up of members of Mountain View Baptist as well as nurses from other area churches. We were also blessed to be partnered with a group of students from North Greenville University. At times we can get hung up on "our church" when in actuality we are all part of one body, the body of Christ, serving His purpose with the gifts and talents He bestowed upon us.

We started our trip by attending a Church service in Marvin. The pastor at Marvin, Pastor Irving is such a humble, godly man. After the service he was sharing what little he had feeding children in the barrio. Shortly before our arrival Pastor Irving's home had been robbed. Someone had cut through the plastic and taken a number of items from his house. We had the privilege of helping to secure his home by putting up sheets of tin place of the plastic. The next 2 days were spent running a medical clinic in Los Novios. This was our first time in this barrio and it was a joy getting to spend time with the people there. On the way to Los Novios the second day, we had the opportunity to do a feeding at the dump by Cristo Rey. It is such a humbling experience to see people trying to scratch out an existence in a trash dump when we have so much here and still complain about what we don't have.

On Wednesday we made the always anticipated trip to Casa Mephibosheth to spend time with the children and staff there. On the way out of town we were able to stop at a nursing home and spend some time with the residents there. Thursday was spent at 'The Flags" where we ran a medical clinic and did door to door evangelism. Friday morning we held a medical clinic at Pastor Omar's church in Tangere barrio. This was a special blessing for us as we were able to see many of the people we saw during last year's trip. We were privileged to see an older gentleman who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer last year up and around in great health this year. It was a reminder that God is at work and all things are possible with Him.

Our 2012 Nicaragua Mission Trip was an incredible blessing! Our team had the opportunity to serve in the barrio of Milagro de Dios (Miracle of God) in Leon alongside Pastor Rodrigo and his family.

During the week our construction team worked hard and laid over 800 blocks, framed the doors and windows, and completed the structure for the new church. By God's grace another team completed the floor and roof. It is exciting to leave a mission trip knowing that you are leaving behind a house of worship where God will be exalted every week.   This was our most evangelistic mission trip so far. Through our children's ministry, door-to-door evangelism, and adult Bible Study teams we saw 47 men, women, and children come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ! One thing I really loved is that by working through a local barrio church - each decision is given to a local pastor to foster discipleship and continued growth.

On behalf of our entire team, I want to thank Guillermo and the entire staff at Chosen Children Ministries. Our team was truly humbled to witness the hard work that goes in every week in praying, planning, and preparation so that God can work through mission teams.
