Chosen Children Ministries
His Heart - Our Mission
News from the Field                                               October 2011

Dear Missions Partner,

As we near the end of 2011 there is no better time to catch our breath, and pause to reflect on how God used nearly 900 missionaries along with our Nicaraguan staff to lift up Jesus Christ and make Him known to a lost and hurting world.  Our prayer is that God was honored in every part of Chosen Children Ministries.

With only two teams remaining, we will continue to pray that we finish strong. There is still room for you on the Christmas Trip. This is a slightly different mission trip led by John and Nancy Tillema. We will be in many barrio churches, the Casa Mephibosheth Orphanage, homes, and schools. On the last night we will celebrate with our entire Nicaraguan staff.

This trip is a great way to celebrate Christmas! Pray about joining us December 10th-17th. If you have any questions contact Amber at our CCM office for more details.

In Christ,

Wallace Nix

Prayer Requests

New children are arriving

at our  Mephibosheth  orphanage.  Please pray God will move the hearts of people to sponsor these chilren.

CCM supports 15 barrio pastors and churches in Nicaragua.  Pray for these young churches and their continued support and growth.

Our Mephiobsheth orphanage needs a better and larger van.   Therefore, one of the CCM regular ministry vans is being given to the orphanage.  Please pray God will provide another ministry van which is so vital to our CCM staff and teams in order to travel to the many barrios. This needs to be purchased in November, and now would be a good time to help.

Our team of thirteen men had the privilege of building a church in El Chague. When we arrived on site on Monday we thought it was an impossible task to finish by Friday, but God favored us with good weather. To see these men use their gifts and to work alongside the servants of Chosen Children Ministries and the people of the community was remarkable. To me, it was a controlled chaos. Everything fell into place. With God's help, we finished in four days. The time we spent there was powerful. To quote Kent Jackson, one of the team members, "we worked hard together, we played hard together, we laughed hard, and we cried hard."

By the end of the fourth day, the father and son team of Richard and Danny Vaughn were putting the finishing touches on one of the doors while the people of the church were gathering for a special service in the newly built church. In the service, Dr. Joe Millican gave his testimony of how he and his wife, Caroline lost a child at birth and were able to dedicate the church in memory of Edward Smith Millican.

It has been my privilege to visit Nicaragua five times in the past three years. It is still amazing to witness the faith of a people that have so little. It is that faith that we bring back to South Carolina and we are so thankful that God has allowed us to see through His eyes. With man, it is impossible. With God, all things are possible.

As our group boarded the plane in Charlotte early in the morning, many team members had no idea what to expect.  Wow, did the Lord show up in Nicaragua and what an amazing week we experienced with the people of Nicaragua and Chosen Children Ministries. One of our main goals was to fund and build three houses while having the other half of our team in the barrios evangelizing and inviting people to the church services.  Although the rain made building a challenge, the Lord provided.  We were able to complete and dedicate all three houses in the barrios of Cristo Rey and Emmanuel!  It was amazing to see believers from the upstate of South Carolina working hand in hand with believers from the barrios of Nicaragua!

One of the most special times was the day we visited the orphanage in Juigalpa. We were able to complete some repair projects to the screens and windows there as well as plant trees and shrubs to make the campus more beautiful. Several of our team members have longstanding relationships with some of the children who are in the orphanage and have also seen some of the children they have sponsored grow into responsible young ladies and are now self-sustaining.  What a testimony to the ministry there!  Other team members were able to sponsor a child for the first time.  I personally look forward to the letters and updates I will be receiving of the "new" members of our family!

Probably the most heart breaking and at the same time encouraging parts of the trip was in our visit to the dumps outside of Cristo Rey.  It was so hard to see children and adults roaming around in the trash and horrible conditions in the dump.  But at the same time, we were able to hold an "impromptu" worship and preaching time and saw three men come to accept Christ as their Savior! I commented in our sharing time one evening that if Christ were physically walking the face of the earth today, his church would probably look more like what we experienced in Nicaragua than it does back home in our big church in Spartanburg.  We have already planned two trips for 2011!

For His Glory,

A team of 20 from Johnson Ferry Baptist Church ministered in Nicaragua during October 8-15, 2011. After worshipping with the church in Las Torres barrio on Sunday, the team spent Monday and Tuesday in Las Torres engaged in various ministries: a pediatric clinic, an optical clinic, Bible studies for ladies, a purity study for teenage girls, VBS for children, door-to-door evangelism, and a food bag distribution. A community-wide worship service was held on Tuesday evening with approximately 200 people attending.

On Wednesday, the team ministered in El Cóbano near Juigalpa with the pediatric clinic, optical clinic, door-to-door evangelism, testimonies, and food bag distribution. On Thursday the team conducted the pediatric clinic, the optical clinic and food bag distribution at the San Antonio Church next door to the Casa Mephibosheth Orphanage. The team also did door-to-door evangelism in the Panmuca barrio near Juigalpa and received last minute authorization to conduct a worship service at the Juigalpa men's prison. On Friday the team distributed food bags at the Cristo Rey trash dump in Tipitapa.

Although the area experienced lots of rain during the week, God kept the ministry times dry weather-wise. In all, the pediatric clinics treated over 200 children, the optical clinics provided eye exams and glasses to over 185 people, and over 350 food bags were distributed. All these ministry venues not only provided many opportunities to show God's love, but it provided many opportunities to directly present the Gospel. The team planted many spiritual seeds, and over 40 decisions for Christ were made during the week. It was truly a God-inspired week.

Last year, God laid on our hearts a desire to add a mission trip experience for our juniors and seniors. In May 2011, we took a small group of seniors on a scouting trip. We fell in love with the Chosen Children Ministries (CCM) staff and the people of Nicaragua. In October, we returned with a group of 33 juniors, seniors, chaperones and a few underclassmen. We worshiped in Las Torres, played with the children in the orphanage, and one of our team members taught in the Bible Institute.

We had the opportunity to see a school that was built in Paradise. Our team got to build three additional houses in this area and one in the Marvin barrio. We did VBS in the church and sports in the public school. We did a worship service in the Dump and were blessed with 12 decisions for Christ. We were able to distribute 80 food bags to the community and some things for Pastor Oscar. We painted three public school buildings, fixed bathroom doors in the Xiola barrio, and did a program and sports at the public school where 15 students made decisions. We were highly blessed by our experience and are so thankful for the staff at CCM. This trip made an incredible impact on our students, and their lives will be forever changed.
