His Heart - Our Mission
News from the Field                                                           July 2011

Dear Missions Partner,

This is being written from the mission field. We have officially started drilling the first well in the Parcels barrio, and last night held our first church service underneath the plastic church that is there. We praise God for the several new believers we saw come to faith in Jesus Christ.  Continue to pray for these new believers as they begin their journey with Him. What an encouragement to see so many North American believers answering God's call to go!

In Christ,

Prayer Requests

New children are arriving

at our  Mephibosheth  orphanage.  Please pray God will move the hearts of people to sponsor these chilren.

CCM supports 13 barrio pastors and churches in Nicaragua.  Pray for these young churches and their continued support and growth.

Our Mephiobsheth orphanage needs a better and larger van.   Therefore, one of the CCM regular ministry vans is being given to the orphanage.  Please pray God will provide a another ministry van which is so vital to our CCM staff and teams in order to travel to the many barrios.

This was our fourth trip to Nicaragua as leaders of Jonesville Baptist Church,  which included folks from Oak Forest Baptist Church in Fletcher, NC, Tabernacle Baptist in Union, and Bethlehem United Methodist in Jonesville, SC.  We took a group of 17 this year, and  we are always amazed at what God does.  We were able to feed many, including both adults and children, go door to door telling others about Jesus, and there were 12 known salvations and many seeds were planted!

We did VBS at 3 churches and a school.  We made sandwiches and Kool-Aid and gave them out at the school.  The children were so grateful for what we take for granted.  We also had 2 teams working on 2 houses adding a plastic room onto one room homes.  These families were so grateful to get just a little more room for their families!  We took 6 suitcases full of clothes for the children.  Oh, the looks on their faces when they were able to receive just one piece of clothing.  That was priceless.  Also during the week, we encouraged the area pastors and their families, and took them into the city for supper one night. It was such a precious time spent with them.  They never get to do anything like that, and they were so appreciative!

West Springs Baptist Church

I had the opportunity to accompany West Springs Baptist Church to Nicaragua to serve alongside Chosen Children Ministries.   This was my first ever mission trip and it was everything and more that I had hoped it would be. I had heard the stories and seen the pictures, but I still wasn't prepared for what I was going to experience. I went expecting to be a blessing to someone, but it didn't take me long to realize that I was the one who was going to receive the blessing.

Once in Nicaragua, Guillermo and his entire staff made us feel right at home. The property was beautiful, and the accommodations and food were great. This seemed more like a vacation than a mission trip. However, once we visited the barrio of Paradise, it hit me as to why God had called us to come. On Monday morning, during the bus ride in, the first thing I noticed was the living conditions. I was shocked! I wondered how people could possibly live in those conditions. Then I met those people. They were incredibly welcoming and genuine. They were proud and resourceful. The children were beautiful and just seemed to want our attention. I knew at that point it was going to be a great week.

During the week, we were able to build a classroom for the schoolhouse in Paradise. We built a small house for a family, and we held VBS for the children and Bible study for the adults. We visited homes and prayed with families. We distributed food and supplies.  Most importantly, we saw God work in amazing ways. Never before had I witnessed His glory and His grace like I did that week. I know God does amazing things here in Spartanburg every day. But often times we get so caught up in our own lives that we fail to see them. In Nicaragua I saw them clearly. What an honor it was to serve Him and share His love with the wonderful people of Nicaragua.

Shandon Baptist Church

Columbia, South Carolina

An adult team of 10 individuals from Shandon Baptist Church worked in Emmanuel and Parceles barrios doing a week of children's ministry, door-to-door evangelism, construction of a plastic-wrapped home, food bag distribution, adult discipleship, and leader training. We also had the joy of praying with 56 people who asked Christ into their hearts. Truly the Lord was at work in a powerful way! Our work in Parceles barrio proved to tug at our hearts the most. One heart tug came at the conclusion of the first Bible Study I taught in the community. At the conclusion of the Bible Study an elderly woman asked if we would pray that God would provide a well for their community. She explained that the only decent drinking water was from the well in Emmanuel four miles away - quite an obstacle to overcome without transportation. She did not know that Chosen Children Ministries  had recently purchased a well drilling machine  to use for that purpose. Guillermo explained to me that in order to drill the well CCM would need someone to donate the money to pay for the piping, pump, and the man to do it. I am happy to report that God has provided that money through His people here in the US.

The first day we visited the barrio, we found that an elderly man in the community had donated part of his land for a church building. He and others had built an open air framed structure out of trees and limbs, somewhat like a large picnic shelter, to serve as the church building. The structure needed a roof and it needed pews. Later that week our construction team covered the frame with heavy plastic and built six pews. What touched me deeply was seeing the elderly man who had donated the land go to his house, bring back his broom, and sweep the dirt of natural debris so the church building would be clean for use. He was so proud of that structure. While he swept, people began to walk to the church from all over .By the time the crowd arrived, close to 90 adults and children were gathered to hear God's word taught.

I am glad that not only has Shandon's team been used to bring water to that community, but we were also privileged to bring God's living water to them as well. We cannot thank CCM enough for making all of it possible.

I am continually amazed at the impact a mission trip with Chosen Children Ministries has on a person's life. For someone who has never ventured beyond the borders of their own country, to say it is "eye-opening" is an incredible understatement. But also for people who have served Christ many times on the foreign soil of Nicaragua, each experience is a gentle reminder of how blessed we are in America. Things such as clean water, food, shelter, and proper medical care may not be considered by us as "blessings," that is, not until you encounter people who don't have these essentials.

As I lay in bed each night at the mission house, hearing the clashing of thunder and rain beating hard against the roof, I could hardly imagine being in, much less living in, most of the homes I saw that day in the barrio. The things I take for granted are luxuries to these
people - (clean water, food, shelter & proper medical care.)   I wo
uld guess that most people reading this article have more than you really need. Why is it that we have "more than we need" when there are people in our world who don't  have close to what they need? We are blessed "not" so we can create more comforts for ourselves or construct more barriers between us and the desperately needy of our world.  We are blessed to be a blessing!  You need to go to Nicaragua! You will not regret it.

How awesome are the plans of God! Our team of seventeen had the privilege to serve alongside our Nicaraguan family for a week in July. For some of our team it was their sixth or seventh year of serving in Nicaragua. Our Sunday worship with God's family at the Emanuel Primera Iglesia Bautista in Masaya and observing the Lord's Supper; helps me imagine the worship of our Lord by the nations at His throne in His coming Kingdom!

In Cristo Rey the construction team laid the block walls for the primary school on the slab foundation prepared by a previous team. The block walls were capped and ready for the next team to place the roof. Pastor Robert held daily Bible studies to feed those at the construction site. VBS for children and a Ladies Bible Study were held daily. Door to door evangelism was used to share the gospel with the barrio. The excitement and hunger over God's Word thrilled us! Many begged to have their own copy of God's Word. We gave out Spanish Bibles and New Testaments to those most hungry for God's Word. How humbling to be used as the Lord's hands, mouth and feet! We painted walls, we repaired roofs, we repaired latrines, and we provided medical care to those sick and injured. We handed out bags of picos daily. In total we handed out 180 bags of food and 57 bags of clothes and shoes. The last day we gave out picos and clothing/shoes to those who lived in the dump. The gratitude of those receiving was overwhelming. It is all about Him! "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen!" Ephesians 3:20-21
