Chosen Children Ministries
His Heart - Our Mission
News from the Field May 2011 |

Dear Friend & Partner, "Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36
In the articles to follow you will read how God is using our U.S. brothers and sisters in Christ to reach the lost and down cast with the gospel of Christ. Your partnering with CCM has helped those in Nicaragua who have so little. Thank you!
Each of you has made a great difference in so many lives. While most of you are reading this from the comfort of your office or home, please let your mind go back to the mission field and remember the sights, sounds, and smells of those with whom you shared your life with for one week this year. Continue to pray for the work God is doing through Chosen Children Ministries as we commit to go to the needy, the forgotten, and the unloved with the good news of Jesus Christ and provide them with the physical help they so desperately need. Pray right now and ask the Lord of the harvest to direct you if you are to be a part of helping in some way. Our prayer is that our Lord continues to bless you and your family in the days to come, and that you will continue to walk in obedience.
In Christ,
Wallace Nix
Executive Director
Chosen Children Ministries
"But whoever has the world's good, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth." 1 John 3:17-18 |

Thompson Station Baptist Men's Construction Team
Thompson Station, TN
Two years ago, our men's construction team had the pleasure to build the first Bible Institute at the Leon Campus and this year God allowed us to build a Bible Institute at the campus in Masaya. Every year it is incredible to go and see the progress that God and this ministry is making in Nicaragua. We are very excited to know that churches are being planted, pastors are being trained, and the Great Commission is being fulfilled.
The construction of this building started on a Saturday afternoon and ended on Wednesday afternoon. Through God's faithfulness and provisions, He allowed us to finish the concrete, lay all the block, do all the electrical work and get the roof on this building in just a few days. On Thursday, we visited the church at Emmanuel God used us to construct in May of 2010. After one year, the church is continuing to grow and thrive and God is using the church to impact that barrio. It was great to visit some of the people we had met last year.

We also visited Casa Mephibosheth
orphanage to see the kids that some of the men from my team sponsor. This was the first time for these guys to meet their sponsored kids in person and it was incredible.
We were there to build, but God allowed us to do so much more. We handed out Bibles and shared the love of Christ with the people we met. It was such a blessing for us to be a part of God's divine plan. | | ~ Brent Jones, Team Leader |

West Ridge Church Team
Dallas, GA
In April I had the privilege of leading a team of 52 high school students and leaders to serve alongside Chosen Children Ministries doing VBS, door to door evangelism, sports ministry, women's ministry, and construction. We saw God work in and through our team in ways that we couldn't have asked for or imagined. A few stories stick out in my mind...
One of our teams doing door to door evangelism had the chance to lead a woman to the Lord in a community called The Flags. In conversation this lady said she knew Jesus, but then said that she was deserving of her relationship with Jesus because of her good works. Our students got the chance to share with her that a relationship with Jesus is not earned through good works, but comes by grace through faith in Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. At the end of their time, one of our students asked if the lady wanted to place her faith in Christ as her Savior, and with tears streaming down her face she did just that! Our students witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit working through the sharing of the Word and the message of the gospel.
During sports ministry we had the chance to play basketball with 14 nationals. During a break we pulled the guys together and had the opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Many of the men said they knew Jesus, but they were living in sin and not following him. We then had the chance to talk through 1 John 2:4-6:
"The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked."
After talking more about what salvation meant and the life change that Jesus brings through salvation, all 14 men prayed that day to place their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior!
Lastly, one of our big projects for the week was building a new home for a lady named Maria. Maria lives in a community called Xiloa, and she has been crippled in her feet for many years from polio. Maria was living in a home comprised of tree limbs, plastic, cardboard, tin, and dirt floors. We tore her old house down, poured a concrete floor, stacked cinder blocks, made a front door, back door, two windows, and put on a metal roof on. We gathered the entire team together on the last day of ministry to pray for Maria and to pass the home off to her. As we were getting ready to congratulate Maria on her new home, she buried her face in her hands and just started weeping and thanking God. It was a very touching moment and not a single person standing there had dry eyes! We got to pray with Maria, and asked God to bless this new home and to use it as a light in the community of Xiloa.
I have never worked with an organization like Chosen Children anywhere in the world. They are the most humble, Christ centered people I have ever met on the mission field, and it was a true honor partnering with them for this week of ministry. We feel very blessed to have this new relationship with them and are already looking forward to our trip back to Nicaragua next year!

Colonial Heights Baptist Team
Colonial Heights, VA
Wallace and Kim spoke at our Global Impact Conference last November and shared how the Lord was using Chosen Children Ministries to minister to the people of Nicaragua. As a result, 27 individuals were led to become a unified team to serve with CCM in Nicaragua the week of May 14th. What a blessing it was to serve with Wallace, Kim, Guillermo, and his wonderful staff! God used the team to do construction work, door-to-door evangelism, a medical clinic, VBS for children, and discipling of adults and teenagers.
As we arrived for the first day of ministry in the Marvin Salazar Barrio, we were warmly greeted by children and adults with smiling faces and hugs. We were blessed to not only serve in the Marvin Salazar Barrio, but in the orphanage and a nearby barrio. During this week in Nicaragua, we saw 76 individuals come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord, believers were encouraged, and many seeds planted. Our Lord used the Medical Team to treat 300 people; the Construction Team to build a house, a bathroom, and bathroom with shower for Pastor Ervin; and minister to a large group of children each day through chronological bible story teaching, singing songs in Spanish, and games.

One of the many heart-touching events of the trip was when we visited the "Dump." We were so blessed as we witnessed these individuals who were so humble as Wallace shared God's love and plan of salvation. They removed their hats and stood in a reverent attitude as Wallace prayed for them. What an example for each of us! We had the privilege in ministering to them by feeding them and providing gift bags of toiletries. We all left changed by what we had experienced and by seeing the need for this ministry.
In the Medical Clinic, many came and waited patiently to receive treatment. As our two doctors Brent Armstrong and Bernie Tisdale saw patients, they noticed that even though our Pharmacist Tricia Horning worked tirelessly the line was getting long. Brent and Bernie saw this as an opportunity to switch from physically treating people to treating them spiritually by sharing the Gospel.

The Construction Team and Maritsa, a lady who serves faithfully as church secretary for the local barrio church, are shown here standing in front of her new home. She lived in a house near the creek and during the rainy season her house would flood. Our Lord used the team, the family, Wallace Nix, along with our Nicaraguan brothers from another church to miraculously construct her house in 2 1/2 days. Maritsa was completely moved-in by the end of the week with pictures hanging on the wall. Praise the Lord!

The children of Nicaragua are so beautiful and steal your heart so quickly. What a joy it was to see them interact with the Children's Team! They listened and participated in the telling of the Bible story and they loved to sing the many songs that Mike Talley with his guitar led them in singing to our Lord. The kids named Mike - "Gigante" - which means giant. The parachute and the "Alto & Siga" game that Tricia Wolfe played with them were two of the favorite activities. During the invitation time at the end of the third day, a number of the chidlren prayed to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Many team members did door-to-door evangelism even though they were doing other ministries. Kenny Turner who was on the Construction Team went out one day with a team to do door-to-door evangelism and shared the Gospel with a man who prayed to receive Christ. Kenny asked the translator with the team if the man really understood what he had just done. Kenny received the answer to his question the next day when this man sought him out. He asked Kenny to show him the verses he had shared with him. Kenny and the translator underlined the verses in the Spanish Bible he had been given, and they turned the corner of the pages down so he could easily find them. When they asked why he wanted to know this, he shared that he had six brothers who did not know Jesus, and he wanted to share Jesus with his brothers.
Now we are back home with our families but forever changed by our Lord as a result of what He showed us and let us experience. We so miss our brothers and sisters in Christ with CCM; the Nicaraguan people; the hugs and singing of the many children; and, of course, rice and beans and "Chikies." Thank you, Wallace and Kim, for how our Lord is using you to change the lives of the Nicaraguan people for Jesus and changing us as we had the privilege of coming along side you in this wonderful ministry. All the praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Who Will Go?....Send Me!
I am so grateful that I was able to go with my church family to Nicaragua. The Lord worked through our group and His Spirit helped us each step of the way as we built buildings, did medical work, evangelized and taught for the Nicaraguans.
When I first arrived, I will admit, I was taken back by the living conditions of those living in the barrios. I remember thinking after the first day that I am so glad I get to go on the bus to leave. However, after a week of caring for such loving humble people, my overwhelming thought is when can I go back? I fell in love with them. I changed. God made my heart wide open! The Lord loves Nicaragua and is there. His Spirit is at work and what a privilege it is to join Him. To be able to feed the hungry and care for the broken hearted put me in the center of His will and I heard His Spirit remind me of this while I was sharing door to door. The Lord said that this is the very work He created me for. I literally felt that we were the hands and feet of Christ.
So much of Nicaragua is dirty, broken and poor just like I was before Christ. He is the hope and peace for all the world. He loves Nicaragua and so do I. When Wallace and Kim visit the churches and ask, "Who will go?" May we all reply, "Lord, send me!"
