have you "red" our
blog lately?
(wink, wink)

blessed nest blog logoDonna, our "Blogging Mommy" is taking readers through her journey toward living an organic lifestyle,  challenges and triumphs, benefits and frustrations.
She also hosts fun contests (there always seems to be at least one going!) where the prizes are truly amazing...
That plus spotlights on businesses we love, book and product reviews, great photography and witty anctedotes to brighten any day!

beauty and brains

the perfect solution to the age-old dilemma...
sentimental/handmade ornaments
or beautiful ones on the tree?
How about helping your kids make something beautiful that will also be a reminder of a nice day spent creating something together?
(not to mention making the whole house smell amazing!)
jello

Here's what you'll need:

citrus fruit
whole cloves
bamboo skewer
20 gauge wire beads
ribbon
needle-nosed pliers

Use the skewer to poke holes in the skin of the fruit (a few at a time) in the pattern of your choice. Insert the cloves in the holes, pushing them in to the base of the bud. Using the pliers, bend one end of the wire into a spiral and thread a few good-sized beads onto it. Carefully poke the skewer from the base of the stem to the end of the fruit, then insert the straight end of the wire up through the center. Add a couple of beads to the top, and bend the wire into a long "hook" at the top. Add ribbon and hang from a sturdy branch on the tree, or anywhere you need a little great smelling cheer! (the cloves are a natural preservative, so the fruit will dry out and last for years!)

how cute are you?!

Our favorite new magazine

primal paretning coverBlessed Nest is proud to be one of the first advertisers in the much anticipated premier issue of "Primal Parenting". We had the privilege of meeting the women behind this project at the LLLI Conference in Chicago this summer, and wanted to do everything that we could to support and be a part of what they are doing. The premier issue (available online and at select newsstands nationwide) does not disappoint! We love the non-judgmental, realistic approach to making healthy, informed decisions for your family. Every detail, from the writing and photography to the lovely feel and look of the recycled paper it is printed on, we think that you will agree that they are on to something special!
a green tree!
what a concept...

christmas tree

This year the gigantic, 84-foot-tall Norway spruce that beautifully watches over the famous Rockefeller Center ice rink (it looks much smaller in person)  is sporting energy-saving bulbs. Impressive? Well, that's not all...  an array of solar panels atop 45 Rockefeller Plaza will help power them. And, as if that wasn't enough, the tree itself is going to be recycled and used for lumber for Habitat For Humanity houses.  Way'd go, NBC... even if you're doing it just so the "eco-chic" kids will like you, we say kudos for some big steps in the right direction!
