UPCOMING EVENTS
"pennies from heaven" Campaign
From Oct. 12-25, JCPenney's will partner with the Y for the "pennies from heaven" campaign. This nationwide program provides JCPenney's customers the opportunity to make donations to JCPenney at the cash register by rounding up their purchases to the next whole dollar. All donations collected by your local JCPenney store will be donated to our local YMCA after school program.
Holiday Child Care
School is out on Oct. 26, so head on down to the Y for a fun Neewollah Celebration! Kids will have a fun day off from school swimming, bouncing around in our giant bounce house and doing fall/Halloween arts and crafts. Bring your swim suit, towel and sack lunch and come join the fun.

Boo Bash
Both Springfield YMCA locations will be having their free annual Boo Bash on Friday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. Both Y's will be transformed into a gaming area which will include a haunted maze, inflatables, prizes for costumes, refreshments, and a lot of candy. At the Downtown location, guests can also enjoy photos by Amber D. Photography, a sock hop, mummy wrap, and pumpkin pond. The Jones location will feature a bean bag toss, hillbilly golf, ring toss, crafts, s'mores, and hayrides.
Those who attend the Pat Jones celebration can participate in the Your Life Child Safety ID program for free. Kids will receive a Halloween themed ID card.
Non-perishable food donations for the Ozarks Food Harvest will be collected at both locations.
Divas and Denim
Come enjoy a night of music, hors d'oeurves, drinks, and games while supporting a great cause. On Nov. 11, the Y will be hosting its annual Divas in Denim event to raise money for the Strong Kids financial assitance program. The live auction event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Wellington Place Downtown. The band Pearl will also be performing live. Ladies are asked to dress up and men are asked to wear jeans.

Harvest Your Fitness
This member's challenge is a four week program that runs from Oct. 17 to Nov. 13.
Choose three, five or all of the following options below to complete in four weeks to earn your FREE prize.

October swim lessons begin Oct. 3 and run through Oct. 27. This is a four-week session and each class lasts 45 minutes. The registration deadline is Sept. 30.

Y - Factor Climbing - At the Downtown YMCA
YMCA climbing programs are designed to challenge your body and build self-confidence for both youth and adults. All instructors are certified, experienced and hold your safety and well-being as their top priority. All classes are at your downtown YMCA. The registration deadline is the Friday before each new session at 3 p.m. Nowhere else offers an opportunity for families to play and stay fit together like your downtown YMCA. All ages and abilities are welcome to try our wall and classes.
Climbing Classes - All Ages
Our climbing classes offer all ages a chance to pursue their climbing ability and discover a fitness solution for the entire family. Climbing is excellent for improving your cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance, and flexibility. With three levels of difficulty, our wall presents a strong challenge for all ages both mentally and physically. If you and your family enjoy a fun work out, our climbing classes may just be your answer. Whether you are a first timer or a pro, young or old, your downtown YMCA has a class for you. By the way, climbing can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour!
Koalas Climbing Classes - Level I, II, & III, For ages 4-8
Youth will learn terms, safety, knots, and climbing techniques in this six week class. All children will receive a skill card to record their progression through each level.
Spider Monkey Climbing Class - Level I, II & III, For ages 9-13+
Youth will learn the same terms, safety knots, and climbing techniques as Koalas only at a faster pace. All kids will receive a skill card to record their progress through each level.
Adult Climbing Classes
Rapidly advance your climbing skills and fitness level through rock climbing! Rock climbing is the best all-body workout you can take on, but you'll be having too much fun to notice! No matter your skill set, this class will challenge your total body fitness bettering your strength, flexibility, endurance, and skill. It will also offer a balance between physical exercise and mental discipline. Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain strength, or better your overall fitness, this class is for you! Our professional coaches are here to help you reach your goal at every level.
Free Family Climb Night
This is a special night designed to be a fun and active way for families to spend time together. With three levels of difficulty, the rock wall is suitable for all ages. So come enjoy fun and games with the whole family! Check the calendar at Your Downtown YMCA for the weekly activities. A minimum of one parent or guardian must participate with their child(ren). Parents/guardians are encouraged to become YMCA belay certified. Staff is on duty to assist.
There is no cost for family members of the Y. The price is $10 for those families who are non-members.
Climbing Personal Training
Climbing personal training is a custom program designed to meet your specific needs. Our climbing wall staff is here to motivate and challenge you to reach your individual goals. Whether your goal is to lose weight or tone up, the climbing wall can be your answer! Programs can also include bouldering, lead climbing, top roping, or improving your technique. It's all about you!

Homework Table Ages K-8
After school homework help is provided for Y members grades K-8. Tables will be set up in the lobby Monday through Thursday with MSU college students assisting kids and teens with any subject. No registration is required.

Home School Interaction
This program provides kids ages 4-12 a fun, safe environment to engage in a variety of activities that promote physical and social well-being. At the Downtown Y, kids will have 30 minutes of free swim, 40 minutes of climbing wall time, and 40 minutes of P.E. time. And it's FREE when you're a Y Family Member!!
Strength and Conditioning
In this program, youth ages 12-16 are taught proper use and technique with fitness equipment. The first hour of the program includes strength and cardio workouts as well as flexibility components. The second hour is spent participating in group games in the gym or climbing the rock wall.
FREE for family members - you may only choose one day to come.
Non member fees:

DOWNTOWN TEENS

Y Teens Club (6-12 grade)
Receive tutoring on homework you're having trouble with, rock out on Guitar Hero, challenge yourself on the rock wall, play a friendly game of dodge ball, workout, take a dance class, do a craft, or just hang out in our Teen Zone. And when you're not busy making new friends or mastering the Nintendo Wii, we have added the Girls on Track program and recycling as a service learning project.
We will pick up at the following schools and ensure you arrive safely at the Downtown YMCA: Jarrett, Pipkin, Parkview, Central, St. Agnes, St. Joseph, Reed, Greenwood, and Study.
On-Site location at Carver Middle School.
Registration remains open for the 2011-2012 school.

Youth in Government
Youth in Government is a national program of the YMCA, which involves thousands of teens nationwide in state organized model government programs.The purpose of Missouri YMCA Youth In Government is to prepare students for responsible leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy. Here in Missouri, YMCA Youth & Government involves more than 800 teens from around the state in an effort to help them learn leadership skills, explore personal values and better understand the democratic process. The program provides a laboratory for student led activities. Any student in Missouri is eligible to participate.
Each year students come to Jefferson City and convene at the state capitol building for a model legislature and model Supreme Court. Students enroll at their prospective high schools and teacher advisors work with the YMCA Youth & Government program to ensure success. YMCA Youth & Government clubs meet throughout the school year.

Model Government
Model Government is a simulated student-run state government program within Youth In Government. Students choose their program area: Legislative, Judicial, Print Press & Video News. Fifteen students have gone through training in preparation for the Clark State Convention held Dec. 2-4 in Jefferson City, MO.The 2011 conference will be held Dec. 1-3. Registration will begin Aug. 22, 2011.

Counselors-In-Training
The CIT program is for high school students interested in getting volunteer hours and acquiring the skills necessary to become a Summer Odyssey counselor. This program prepares individuals for the leadership and responsibly of being a counselor as well as their job search in the future. Every teen will leave this program with the skills and resume necessary to be on a career path they will love. In addition, teens will get first aid and CPR certification as well as YMCA mission, risk management and child abuse prevention training. We believe this program will set every teen on the path to success. Registration is currently open. |

Birthday Parties
Plan your child's next birthday at Your Downtown YMCA! Your child can design his or her own event by choosing two activities. The day can start with a fun craft theme for their party, rock climbing, a pool party, or in a jump house! Give your child the gift of fun at Your Downtown YMCA.

UPCOMING EVENTS
YMCA's Arts Week
This year the celebration is Oct. 3-9. Celebrated at Ys nationwide in October, National Arts and Humanities Month, Arts Week is an initiative of the Y that promotes the power of art to educate, inspire and connect the entire community. The event celebrates the influence of art and culture on youth and adults alike.
We will offer free arts opportunities all week. Each day, there will be sidewalk chalk available for you to express yourself on our front steps, Y-Jam will also be out there on Thursday and Friday for you to make some music. Inside, we will have a make-it-and-take-it art station set up where you are welcome to come spend as much time as you would like, creating mixed media masterpieces. On the Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. until noon, come to the art room and go through our many craft stations. A dance demo will also be given.
Pumpkin Patch
Come visit the Pat Jones Family YMCA Pumpkin Patch from Oct. 1-31, located right outside our front entrance. Pumpkin pricing varies and all profits benefit the Y's Strong Kids Campaign.
The Strong Kids Campaign ensures that no family is turned down for Y services due to an inability to pay. With your support, we can make sure that everyone who needs the Y has the opportunity to come and participate in our programs. Together, we have a meaningful and lasting impact on our community, one person at a time.
Boo Bash
One of the most important goals of the Pat Jones Y is to enrich the lives of children in our community. Each year our staff and volunteers come together to offer a fun, safe and exciting fall festival we call, Boo Bash.
This year we invite youth and families to come experience our Halloween Extravaganza on Friday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m.. Our gym will be transformed into an interactive game field where participants will be able to test their luck and skill at a number of gaming stations including: Monster Bean Bag Toss, Hillbilly Golf, Spider Ring Toss, Sling Shot It, and more. Besides games, we will also have an inflatable bounce house, hayrides, a haunted maze, crafts, music and dance, costume contest, crafts, a fire pit for s'mores, photo opportunities, and lots of candy. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Admission is free, but we are asking that a canned food donation be brought to help support Ozarks Food Harvest.

ARTS
Arts Schedule
The Y Arts Academy offers all of your favorite high quality classes and programs each month (four week sessions) on an on-going basis. Registration ends the Friday before classes are scheduled to start and spaces are limited. Our students have a great time while learning in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Parents are welcome to enroll and take any class with his or her child.

SMART at the Y (Saturday Morning Art)
A fun three hour workshop held the third Saturday of the month. Visual art projects will vary each month, and may also include music, stories, dance, playground time, science, etc. A snack and drink will be provided. Must be registered by 10 p.m. on the Thursday before class.

Art Express
A 30 minute blast of age appropriate projects. Make 'em and take 'em. Only $2! Sign your child in at the Kid Zone or Jammin' Gym, and our instructors will take them to class for you. Art Express bracelets are available at the front desk.

Come discover the fun you can have making art together as a family. Families will create wonderful works of art using clay, paint, paper, found objects, ceramics, and more. Minimum enrollment per family is two, includes one child and one parent.
Youth Classes
Music Exploration
Blast into the music with your rambunctious toddlers and preschoolers. Explore the rhythms through the senses. See, feel, and hear the enthusiasm, the awakening of the mind to music, the universal language.
Kids Art Mix
Includes an eclectic mix of arts. Music, reading, painting, drawing, clay work, writing, and more are all blended together to stimulate all of the senses. A must try!
Group Guitar
Learn the basics of playing the acoustic (or electric) guitar. Students will learn language, positioning, and chords.
*Participants must bring their own guitar.
Group Piano
Weekly group sessions for all ages to learn basic piano skills, introduction to music theory and music reading skills. Classes usually include a variety of levels, so come one, come all. Lessons are taught on keyboards.
Private Piano
Weekly private sessions for all ages to learn basic piano skills, introduction to music theory and music reading skills. Classes usually include a variety of levels, so come one, come all. Lessons are taught on keyboards. Days and times are by arrangement with the instructor.
Private Guitar/Bass
Learn to play the guitar: acoustic, electric, or bass. These lessons can be set up at the convenience of the student and the availability of the instructor.

Creation Station
One of our most popular classes! Stretch your imagination in this fun class. We will be using an adventurous mix of art media including paint, clay, wood, wire, and found objects. Projects usually incorporate some element of 3D sculpture.
Science Madness
Do your kids love experimenting? Love explosions? Love gooey messes? Then this class is for them! The class includes all the fun aspects of science while sneaking in learning the accurate terminology and beginning the scientific method!
Clay Exploration
Discover the fun and exciting world of clay through instruction in hand building with clay. Participants will learn basic hand building techniques. We will learn coils, slabs, pinch pot method, firing, glazing, use air dry, and much more. The only limit is your imagination.
Pottery
Participants will learn how to use the pottery wheel to create functional and fun works of art. Surface decoration, glazing, and hand building will also be covered.

Open Studio
We'll incorporate many different materials and techniques to create beautiful and functional works of art. Each class will be something new, ie. paint, glass, leather, collage, art papers, jewelry, fibers, ceramics, metal, clay, and more. Great for families!
Adult Classes
Bellydance
Bellydance is unique in that it has all of the serenity and eastern wisdom of Yoga, physical benefits of Selah, and fun upbeat environment of Zumba. It can be a challenging and rewarding way to get in shape, express yourself, and make connections in the body that may not have been there otherwise.
The comprehensive bellydance program offered through the YMCA, opens doors for you to experience dance and physical movement in a fun way that helps build self-esteem, as well as strength, flexibility, and grace. You will have the opportunity to merge fitness, art, and mental clarity. There is nothing else like it out there!
Instructor, Brittney Laleh Banaei, has been dancing, teaching, and performing for 10 years. She believes that bellydance is for EVERYONE. Through her unique approach to bellydance, she offers students a deep physical toning, and the opportunity to take control of their bodies and celebrate where they are at this point in life regardless of age, body shape, or any other classification. She prides herself on getting her students dancing in their VERY FIRST class, so that they can feel the fruits of their hard work immediately. As a choreographer, she is experienced in creating combinations and dances that are accessible to every level. This is what allows her to create the beautiful moments in class in which students truly get to experience dance and MOVE! Brittney invites you to try your first class for free, and she's sure you'll love it.
Ballroom Dance
Enjoy the fun and excitement of learning various ballroom steps in an encouraging environment at your Pat Jones YMCA. Our regular four week sessions cover Fox Trot, Tango, Mambo/Salsa, Swing, and Waltz. Dance is a wonderful form of exercise for all ages, and helps develop coordination, grace, and friendships. If you are already a dancer, our classes are a great way to brush up on your moves for your next special occasion, such as a class reunion, wedding, or just a night out on the town. All classes are taught by professional dance instructors who love what they do. Our instructor, Obi, invites you to try your first class for free, since he's sure you'll be hooked after that.

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at woodcarving, but thought, "There's no way I could do that?" Well, here's your chance! Students will learn proper tool usage in this beginner's class, carving two to three projects you will be proud of. You can do it! Tools and materials will be provided.

ART PARTIES
The Best Party Ever!
Celebrate your birthday with a Y-Arts Party. These two hour parties are an amazing experience for your children and their friends. We work with you to develop just the right project for their special day. Some ideas include: mask making, jewelry work, ceramics, clay, painting, sculpture, belly dance (Persian Princess Parties), Hip Hop parties, collage, spin art, and tie-dye (YOUR CHOICE), and you are not limited to the ideas suggested here. We want to make your party a unique, fun and creative day to remember. Art parties are not just for birthdays either. They make a fun time for girls nights out, corporate team building, family gatherings, and holiday celebrations, etc. Best of all...we clean up the mess, so you don't have to.
Family Member Fee: $100 for up to 10 people, $10 each participant after 10 Participant Fee: $120 for up to 10 people, $12 each participant after 10.

KIDS NIGHT OUT
Kids Night Out is a program for community children ages 1-12. Parents, drop your children off at the Pat Jones YMCA at 6:00 p.m. on the second Friday of each month for fun, inflatables, swimming, crafts, dinner and drinks, games, and more while you go out.
Date: Second Friday of each month
Cost: $10/child YMCA members; $15/child non-members
Time: 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

PARTIES AT THE Y
Book your special occasion with us! The Pat Jones YMCA is a great place to celebrate that special occasion, whether it is a birthday party, family gathering, or just a group wanting to have some fun. Our trained staff will ensure that you have a great time in a safe and exciting environment. All rentals include tables and chairs for you an your guests, and our staff will set up and tear down.
Birthday Party Options
Pool Party
Come splash around and play games in our family indoor pool. This party includes the community room for two hours with access to the pool for the first hour. The community room is a great place to have cake, ice cream, and to open your gifts.
$100 members, $150 non-members
Inflatable Party
Come bounce around and enjoy the gym with a two hour inflatable party. Trained staff will set up and supervise the inflatable.
One bounce house-$150 members, $200 non-members
Two bounce houses-$250 members, $300 non-members
Sports Themed Party
This sports party is great for All Stars of all ages. Enjoy a friendly competition lead by a YMCA staff member. Parties are sport specific with your choice of flag football, soccer, basketball, dodge ball, tee-ball, or kickball. Medals can be purchased to go with this party.

Art Party
