Greetings from the Y! We'd just like to let you know about a few of our upcoming events!

Book Drive for Child Care In September

Do you have children's books gathering dust somewhere in your home? Would you be willing to purchase a book to help a child? During the month of September the Y will have a book drive to support our local Kindergarten through 5th grade child care programs. Children in child care receive assistance from staff with reading and tutoring in their class work. Can you help? Drop off new or gently used books at the welcome desk at your local YMCA and support the programs that help make our community a great place to live. Why not purchase a copy of YOUR child's favorite book for other children to enjoy? Any book appropriate for elementary aged children is welcome.

ART AND HUMANITIES CLASSES

Taking registrations now for Art and Humanities classes.

Class prices: $15 for family members and $45 for nonmembers.

Classes start Sept. 12 and end Nov. 11 with a performance at the end of the session.

Classes we are offering;

Piano Lessons: Grades 3rd-5th

Jammin Guitar: Grades 4th-7th

Cheer: Ages 5-10 years

Tap: Ages 4-8 years

Ballet: Ages 3-6 years

Hip-Hop: Ages 7-12 years

Art Explorers: Ages 6-12 years

Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Monett Midway Regional Race - 5k, 10k, 1 mile walk
It is time to register for this year's race! It will be held Saturday, September 11, starting at the Monett Area YMCA at 8:30 a.m. Many great prizes including airline tickets and savings bonds will be awarded again this year for both race winners and random drawings. Monett and Cassville Bring a Friend Challenge
Starts August 28 and ends November 19. Collect 36 stickers and bring a nonmember friend in the next 12 weeks and receive a free T-shirt.

AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE

Monett After School Child Care
The After School Child Care Program has begun for the 2011-2012 school year. Staff members are looking forward to another fun and exciting year. We will continue to serve the Monett Children grades K-6 with our two sites at Monett Elementary School (pending completion of the remodel at the Monett Elementary School) and at Monett Central Park School. We also will continue to bus kids from St. Lawrence and Monett Intermediate. Registration forms are now available at the Monett Area YMCA.

Aurora After School Child Care
The After School Child Care Program in Aurora has begun for the 2011-2012 school year. We will begin operating our program in the Pate Early Childhood Center in Aurora beginning again in August of 2011. The program will be offered to any student of Aurora grades K-6. We will have lots of fun and exciting events offered for the children of Aurora. We will continue to have school bus transportation from the Robinson Elementary and Intermediate Schools.

MONETT HOME SCHOOL P.E.

Starts Sept. 15, 2011. Heart healthy sports, activities and games for grades K-12. Will be held on Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. We are taking registration now. Free for members. Come and let's play.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Monett and Cassville Youth Soccer
and Flag Football
The Cassville YMCA and Monett Area YMCA are accepting registrations for fall youth soccer (ages 4-15) and youth flag football (ages 4-5th grade). The season runs 10 weeks, (includes three weeks of practices) with games being played on Saturdays. Soccer and Flag Football registrations for guaranteed placement end August 26. Practices will begin the week of September 5 and games begin on Saturday, September 24. You can register for fall sports at the Monett Area YMCA, 205 Euclid Street in Monett.

ADULT SPORTS

Monett Adult Volleyball
Eight game schedule, with single elimination post-season tournament for each team. Games played Mondays (Women) or Fridays (Co-Ed) at the Monett Area YMCA and surrounding gyms. Tournament winners will receive championship shirts. Registration deadline is October 8.

Monett and Cassville Adult Flag Football

Co-ed Flag Football League. Seven on seven. Eight game schedule with a single elimination post-season tournament for all teams. Tournament winners will receive championship shirts. Games will be played on Tuesday nights. Registration deadline is September 24.
