Greetings from the Y! We'd just like to let you know about a few of our upcoming events!

Book Drive for Child Care In September

Do you have children's books gathering dust somewhere in your home? Would you be willing to purchase a book to help a child?  During the month of September the Y will have a book drive to support our local Kindergarten through 5th grade child care programs.  Children in child care receive assistance from staff with reading and tutoring in their class work.  Can you help?  Drop off new or gently used books at the welcome desk at your local YMCA and support the programs that help make our community a great place to live.  Why not purchase a copy of YOUR child's favorite book for other children to enjoy? Any book appropriate for elementary aged children is welcome.

FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Fresh Means Locally Grown! - Farmer's Market @ Jones YMCA

These days, "fresh" seems to mean fresh off the truck from California, and "local" is anything east of the Rockies and west of the Atlantic.  For us, fresh means that the produce we hand-picked at 7:00 in the morning is at your door by 7:00 in the evening. Furthermore, we grow only the best-tasting varieties; not commercial varieties bred to withstand machine harvesting, a 2000-mile journey in the back of a semi, and a 3-week shelf life. Our vegetables travel a mere 10 miles to reach your table the same day they are picked. This means they taste far better, and have far more nutritional value, than anything you'll find in a store or restaurant.

Our commitment is to provide you with a selection of produce that varies from week to week, but your box will always be full to the brim with produce at the peak of its season.

Adult Classes

Bellydance

Bellydance is unique in that it has all of the serenity and eastern wisdom of Yoga, physical benefits of Selah, and fun upbeat environment of Zumba. It can be a challenging and rewarding way to get in shape, express yourself, and make connections in the body that may not have been there otherwise.

The comprehensive bellydance program offered through the YMCA, opens doors for you to experience dance and physical movement in a fun, way that helps build self-esteem, as well as strength, flexibility, and grace. You will have the opportunity to merge fitness, art, and mental clarity. There is nothing else like it out there!

Instructor, Brittney Laleh Banaei, has been dancing, teaching, and performing for 10 years. She believes that bellydance is for EVERYONE. Through her unique approach to bellydance, she offers students a deep physical toning, and the opportunity to take control of their bodies and celebrate where they are at this point in life: regardless of age, body shape, or any other classification. She prides herself on getting her students dancing in their VERY FIRST class, so that they can feel the fruits of their hard work immediately. As a choreographer, she is experienced in creating combinations and dances that are accessible to every level. This is what allows her to create the beautiful moments in class in which students truly get to experience dance and MOVE! Brittney invites you to try your first class for free, and she's sure you'll love it.
