Summer Day Camp
Make this summer one of discover for your child. Join us all summer long or pick a special week or two, but join us now because summer is coming and the FUN is about to begin!

Summer Teen's Club- The Y's Summer Teens Club is for youth entering grades 6th-10th in the fall. Each exciting week is programmed with activities and field trips based on that particular theme. Above all, your youth will have fun, cultivate new friendships and have new experiences in a safe, supervised and positive environment. Activities include swimming, arts & crafts, sports, movies, roller skating, mini golf, great guest speakers and more! The program's activities are designed to meet physical needs in an atmosphere of social, emotional and intellectual development. Our goal in Summer Teen Club is to better equip your youth for taking on new challenges they may encounter in the upcoming school year.

FAMILY ART NIGHT
Family Art Night- This takes place during the First Friday Art Walks. Your little artist will be give healthy snacks, climb our rock wall, bounce on inflatables, be a part of an interactive story or create a masterpiece while you enjoy the night. Parents can drop their child (ren) off at the Downtown Y from 6:30 - 9:00pm. Fees $10/child if registered 24 hours in advance. $13/child if registered the day of.

WARD YMCA
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
 Beginner Triathlon Training-This 12 week training goes through everything you need to have for a successful triathlon. This will prepare you for the Tiger Tri held in Republic, MO on August 13. The training includes the following: · 5:45am running club · Saturday morning run/bike trainings · 3 evening swim clinics with underwater video to improve your swimming form · 4 educational seminars to prepare you for the triathlon (nutrition, transitions, gear, race day preparations) · On-site meeting at the Tiger Tri to prepare for the race day · Training Program · Performance shirt Dates: First group meeting will be held Tuesday May 31 at 6pm. This first meeting will go over the program, specific dates and will introduce you to others in the program. The program will continue through the week of the Tiger Tri ending on Saturday, August 13. YOUTH
Home School Interaction- This program provides kids ages 4-15 a fun, safe environment to engage in a variety of activities that promote physical and social well-being. At the Downtown Y, kids will have 30 minutes of free swim, 40 minutes of climbing wall time, and 40 minutes of P.E. time. And it's FREE when you're a Y Family Member!!

Home School Arts and Crafts-The Downtown Y started a new home school art group on Mondays from 11am-12pm. This is for kids aged 7-12 (children 6 years may attend with parent). We will have an exciting and creative new project to work on weekly with an art education teacher.

DOWNTOWN TEENS
Teens Club (6-12 grade)-Rock out on Guitar Hero; challenge yourself on the Rock wall; play a friendly game of dodge ball, work out, take a dance class or just hang out in our Teen Zone. And when you're not busy making new friends or mastering the Nintendo Wii, we'll even help you with your homework. We have many activities to keep you entertained.
We will pick up at the following schools and ensure you arrive safely at the Downtown YMCA;
Jarrett, Pipkin, Parkview, Central, St. Agnes, St. Joseph, Reed, Greenwood and Study. On-Site location at Carver Middle School. Registration remains open for this school year.

Youth in Government -Youth in Government is a national program of the YMCA, which involves thousands of teens nationwide in state organized model government programs. The purpose of Missouri YMCA Youth In Government is to prepare students for responsible leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy. Here in Missouri, YMCA Youth & Government involves more than 800 teens from around the state in an effort to help them learn leadership skills, explore personal values and better understand the democratic process. The program provides a laboratory for student led activities. Any student in Missouri is eligible to participate.
Each year students come to Jefferson City and convene at the state capitol building for a model legislature and model Supreme Court. Students enroll at their prospective high schools and teacher advisors work with the YMCA Youth & Government program to ensure success. YMCA Youth & Government clubs meet throughout the school year.

Model Government- Model Government is a simulated student-run state government program within Youth In Government. Students choose their program area: Legislative, Judicial, Print Press & Video News. 15 Students have gone through training in preparation for the Clark State Convention held December 2-4 in Jefferson City, MO. The 2011 conference will be held December 1-3. Registration will begin August 22, 2011.

Counselors In Training-The CIT program is for high school students interested in getting volunteer hours and acquiring the skills necessary to become a Summer Odyssey counselor. This program prepares individuals for the leadership and responsibly of being a counselor as well as their job search in the future. Every teen will leave this program with the skills and resume necessary to be on a career path they will love. In addition, teens will get first aid and CPR certification as well as YMCA mission, risk management and child abuse prevention training. We believe this program will set every teen on the path to success. Open Registration began March 1st.

Y - Factor Climbing -YMCA climbing programs are designed to challenge your body and build self-confidence for both youth and adults. All instructors are certified, experienced and hold your safety and well-being as their top priority. All classes are at your downtown YMCA. The registration deadline is the Friday before each new session at 3pm. Nowhere else offers an opportunity for families to play and stay fit together like your downtown YMCA. All ages and abilities are welcome to try our wall and classes.
Climbing Classes - All Ages- Our climbing classes offer all ages a chance to pursue their climbing ability and discover a fitness solution for the entire family. Climbing is excellent for improving your cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance, and flexibility. With three levels of difficulty, our wall presents a strong challenge for all ages both mentally and physically. If you and your family enjoy a fun work out, our climbing classes may just be your answer. Whether you are a first timer or a pro, young or old, your downtown YMCA has a class for you. By the way, climbing can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour!
Koalas Climbing Classes - Level I, II, & III For ages 6-12- Youth will learn terms, safety, knots, and climbing techniques in this six week class. Each child will receive a skill card to record their progression through each level.
Spider Monkey Climbing Class - Level I, II & III For ages 13 and older -Youth will learn the same terms, safety knots, and climbing techniques as Koalas only at a faster pace. Each youth will receive a skill card to record their progress through each level.
Adult Climbing Classes- Rapidly advance your climbing skills and fitness level through rock climbing! Rock Climbing is the best all body work out you can take on, but you'll be having too much fun to notice! No matter your skill set, this class will challenge your total body fitness bettering your strength, flexibility endurance and skill. It will also offer a balance between physical exercise and mental discipline. Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain strength or better your overall fitness, this class is for you! Our professional coaches are here to help you reach your goal at every level.
Free Family Climb Night- This is a special night designed to be a fun and active way for families to spend time together. With three levels of difficulty, the rock wall is suitable for all ages. So come enjoy fun and games with the whole family! Check the calendar at Your Downtown YMCA for the weekly activities. A minimum of 1 parent or guardian must participate with their child(ren). Parents/guardians are encouraged to become YMCA belay certified. Staff is on duty to assist.
Climbing Personal Training- Climbing personal training is a custom program designed to meet your specific needs. Our climbing wall staff is here to motivate and challenge you to reach your individual goals. Whether your goal is to lose weight or tone up, the climbing wall can be your answer! Programs can also include bouldering, lead climbing, top roping or improving your technique. It's all about you!
Climb and Create- Plan your child's next event at your downtown YMCA! Your child can design their own event by choosing two activities. The day can start with a fun craft themed for their party, rock climbing or a jump house! Give your child the gift of fun at your downtown YMCA.

The Y Arts Academy offers all of your favorite, high quality classes and programs each month (4 week sessions) on an on-going basis. Registration ends the Friday before classes are scheduled to start and spaces are limited. Our students have a great time while learning in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Thank you for supporting the arts. Be on the lookout for new class offerings,upcoming workshops, and camps!
Special Workshops and Camps- SMART at the Y (Saturday Morning Art)-A fun 3-hour workshop held the 3rd Saturday of the month. Visual art projects will vary each month, and may also include music, stories, dance, playground time, science,
etc. A snack will be provide We will swim in the kiddie pool, so bring a suit.
Must be registered by 10:00pm on the Thursday before class. (Special Pricing: Family Member Fee: $15/ Participant Fee: $20/mo)
Summer Art Camp- Each session of art camp is held for five days from 8am to 12pm. Kids will be involved in lots of hands on visual arts projects, as well as having fun with Y Jam percussion, Hip Hop, and science experiments. Each weeklong participant will receive a Y Arts Camp t-shirt that we will tie dye, and snack

Family Classes- Come discover the fun you can have making art together as a family. Will create wonderful works of art using clay, paint, paper, found objects, ceramics, and more. Minimum enrollment per family is 2, includes 1 child and 1 parent.
Youth Classes
Art Express- A 30 minute blast of age appropriate projects. Make 'em and take 'em. Only $2! Sign your child in at the Kid Zone or Jammin' Gym, and our instructors will take them to class for you. Art Express bracelets are available at the front desk.
Music Exploration-Blast into the music with your rambunctious toddlers and preschoolers. Explore the rhythms through the senses. See, feel, and hear the enthusiasm, the awakening of the mind to music, the universal language.
Kids Art Mix-Includes an eclectic mix of arts. Music, reading, painting, drawing, clay work, writing, and more are all blended together to stimulate all of the senses. A must try!
Group Guitar-Learn the basics of playing the acoustic (or electric) guitar. Students will learn language, positioning, and chords. *Participants must bring their own guitar.
Group Piano-Weekly group sessions for all ages to learn basic piano skills, intro. into music theory and music reading skills. Classes usually include a variety of levels, so come one, come all.
Creation Station-One of our most popular classes! Stretch your imagination in this fun class. We will be using an adventurous mix of art media including paint, clay, wood, wire, and found objects. Projects usually incorporate some element of 3D (sculpture).
Science Madness-Do your kids love experimenting? Love explosions? Love gooey messes? Then this class is for them! The class includes all the fun aspects of science plus sneaking in the learning with accurate terminology and the beginning scientific method!

Home School Classes-
Home School Science Madness (see description above) and Home School Art each provide an educational experience to compliment what your child is learning at home. In art, students will learn about the elements of art by making art. We will emphasize the process, not the finished product. Children will have a fun time using clay, paint, and other mixed media to achieve this objective.
Clay Exploration-Discover the fun and exciting world of clay through instruction in hand building with clay. Participants will learn basic hand building techniques. We will learn coils, slabs, pinch pot method, firing, glazing, use air dry, and much more. The only limit is your imagination.
Wonder Wheels-Participants will learn how to use the pottery wheel to create functional and fun works of art. Surface decoration, glazing, and hand building will also be covered. *Spaces are limited for this class.
Ballet-Children will learn basic ballet positions & terminology, dance steps & expression, rhythm & time, with creative movement for freedom and growth in a fun, exciting, and supportive environment. Our instructor, Marian, is an experienced member of the local dance community and invites her students to come watch her dance when she performs.
Hip Hop Dance-Learning to dance is one of the greaest skills you can learn. Enjoy the fun and excitement of learning fresh dance moves, then put them to use at your next school function or social. Our instructor, Maranda, performs locally with her dance troupe.

Adults Classes
Belly Dancing-This course teaches the basics of the centuries old art of belly dancing. Students get a great workout while becoming stronger, graceful, and more confident than ever before. Expert instruction and encouragement help produce well-rounded belly dancing students. Our instructor, Brittney, performs and competes both locally and nationally, and has won several awards for her belly dance fusion style. Try your first class for free.
Ballroom Dance-Enjoy the fun of learning various ballroom steps. Learn Fox Trot, Tango, Mambo/Salsa, Swing, and Waltz. Don't be left out of the fun? Couples are encouraged, but not mandatory. Our instructor, Obi, invites you to try your first class for free, since he's sure you'll be hooked after that.
Private Guitar/Bass-Learn to play the guitar; acoustic, electric, or bass. These lessons can be set up at the convenience of the student and the availability of the instructor. *Participants must bring their own guitar
Wood Carving-Have you ever wanted to try your hand at woodcarving, but thought, "There's no way I could do that?" Well, here's your chance! Students will learn proper tool usage in this beginners class, carving 2-3 projects you will be proud of. You can do it! Tools and materials will be provided.

THE BEST PARTY EVER- Celebrate your birthday with a Y-Arts Party. These 2 hour parties are an amazing experience for your child and their friends? We work with you to develop just the right project for their special day. Some ideas include: mask making, jewelry work, ceramics, clay, painting, sculpture, belly dance (Persian Princess Parties), Hip Hop parties, collage, spin art, and tie- dye (YOUR CHOICE), and you are not limited to the ideas suggested here. We want to make your party a unique, fun and creative day to remember. Art parties are not just for birthdays either. They make for a fun time for girls nights out, corporate team building, family gatherings, and holiday celebrations, etc. Best of all...we clean up the mess, so you don't have to.

417 Magazine Idea Home
In the Estates at Summit Ridge
The YMCA needs your help!
We're looking for Volunteers for the spectacular 417 Magazine Idea Home in the Estates at Summit Ridge,an exclusive gated community located in east Springfield. Volunteers will act as guides as people tour the home. A Volunteer coffee will be held on May 26 to give complete information.
The YMCA will host home tours June 2-5 (Thurs - Sun) and June 9-12,with 3-hour volunteer shifts available. Proceeds from the tours will go to the YMCA Strong Kids financial assistance program to help kidsand families! The Old World style home is the concept of Euro World Designs by Ron Hill and is being built by Doug Pits Construction. Through the Strong Kids Financial Assistance program, Ozarks Regional YMCA awarded 1.3 million dollars in financial assistance to more than 5,000 people so they could participate in Prime Time before and after school child care, youth sports, swim lessons, Y memberships, gymnastics, Camp Wakonda, Arts Academy and other YMCA programs.
Camp Wakonda
Your summer adventure starts at Camp Wakonda. We offer week-long overnight camp experiences for grades 2nd -9th. The 2011 year will be an exciting year for camp Wakonda as we welcome our new pool facility and an improved program. Campers will learn about themselves, the environment, and gain new skills. They will build new friendships with both cabin mates and counselors. Camp Wakonda allows campers to experience God and the Y mission in a pristine outdoor environment where they feel close to God's perfect creation. They'll have a great time playing games, climbing on the tower, swimming in the pool, and just being kids. They will be challenged to think of how to become people of character and of course they will have tons of fun!
