ALCM on Facebook

I believe that anyone would be hard-pressed to find an organization more collegial and more caring than ALCM. Few professional organizations can boast of the creativity, work ethic, faith, and wisdom of our ALCM members. Just take a moment to imagine: What if the church's worship was without the focus and talent of 1500 skilled musicians and pastors? What would our work life be like without the support and mentoring of dedicated and compassionate colleagues?

Nowhere is the value of ALCM more evident than when we are gathered for worship, learning, and socializing together. It has been my privilege to attend this summer's Regional events in Austin, TX and St. Peter, MN, and I will soon be in route to Thousand Oaks, CA (passing through Northfield, MN to represent ALCM at the St. Olaf Worship, Theology, and Arts Conference!). Although I did not personally attend the Region 1 conference in Bethlehem, PA, Lorraine Brugh reported that it was a wonderful event as well. While distinctly different from each other, these events are clearly the life-blood of those who attend. Arriving professionally parched and end of season weary, everything about the sharing, humor, worship, and learning visibly transformed and revitalized the participants.

What are you planning in your ministry for fall? Soon you will be able to share the details of your events on the ALCM website or write a review and tell about your successes. Send us pictures when you can - it's fun to see what others are doing. Or post your information on Facebook and get feedback from your colleagues.

Luther Decade
Reformation Hymn Festival

Luther DecadeALCM member Don Armitage has partnered with Susan Palo Cherwien to create a Hymn Festival celebrating the 2012 Luther Decade theme 'Music and the Reformation.' In collaboration with the ELCA offices of Worship and Global Mission, this hymn festival explores the hymnody inspired by Luther and the global voice of song that continues the reforming and transforming work Luther began. Hymns, narrations, performance ideas and program notes will be available at alcm.org in mid-July. Additional information about the Luther Decade is available on the ELCA web site. Additional information about the hymn festival will be posted on the ALCM web site as it becomes available.

Executive Director Search Update

June 30 marked the close of the application period in the search for a new ALCM Executive Director. Seventeen applications were received. Those applications will be reviewed by Search Committee Chair Thomas Schmidt (Board member-at-large), along with President Lorraine Brugh, President-Elect Anne Krenz Organ, and Norma Aamodt-Nelson. Upon completion of the interview process, this team will make their recommendation to the Board of Directors for approval.

New ALCM Logo

ALCM New LogoHave you noticed the new ALCM logo? The original ALCM logo was designed by Robert Sirko, who also designed the covers of CrossAccent for nearly 20 years. His creations have stood the test of time and became the visual ALCM brand.

In January 2012 the Board sought new logo designs from four different graphic artists, seeking an image that reflected the both the graceful and professional aspects of a church musician's work. Each artist submitted several different designs, and each created new generations of designs as the Board requested. The new ALCM brand is the work of Kathryn Brewer, a graphic artist in the Chicago area.
