Easter greetings on this fourth day of Easter. These are the days when we church musicians can usually catch our breath, think about something other than the next liturgy, and maybe even take a day off. Whether this brief respite is your time to celebrate the resurrection, or the liturgies themselves provided you with the nourishment they certainly provided for many others, may the joy of the resurrection and the assurance of new life be yours today and through the season.
Easter peace and joy,
Lorraine Brugh

Call for Workshops:
ALCM Biennial Conference, Valparaiso University
"God Is Here: Worship in a Wireless World"
June 30-July 3,2013
The theme of next year's biennial conference revolves around the changing face of technology and how it affects our worship and our lives. It is not about technology in worship (though that can certainly be discussed), but rather how technology is changing us - giving us shorter attention spans, creating virtual communities that sometimes replace flesh-and-blood communities, and drawing us into every wider circles of friends around the globe while shrinking our personal worlds onto IPhones. If you have a workshop idea that "syncs" with this theme, please send it to Program Co-Chair Jim Loeffler at LoefflerFive@aol.com. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2012. Thank you for your interest, and mark the conference dates on your calendar now. For more information, please visit the conference website.

Church Music Exchange Program
in Germany
Students at Valparaiso University studying German and organ can take advantage of an exchange program with the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik in Rottenburg am Neckar. In spring 2010, Emily German (Fort Wayne, Indiana) was the first Valpo student to spend a semester at the Hochschule; while there, she had the opportunity to play a variety of organs, sing with the Hugo-Distler-Chor in Berlin, and take courses and lessons in organ and voice while perfecting her German skills. The exchange is supported by the Henry and June Giebel Scholarship from Valparaiso University; other scholarships are available, as well. If you know students who could benefit from this great program, please direct them to the Valpo website: http://www.valpo.edu/foreignlanguages/german. |
Donate to ALCM Without Spending a Dime!!!
ALCM is a registered participant in GoodSearch, a search engine which donates 50 percent of its sponsored search revenue to the charities and schools designated by its users. You use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine. The money GoodSearch donates comes from its advertisers - the users and the organizations do not spend a dime!
In 2007, GoodSearch was expanded to include GoodShop, an online shopping mall of world-class merchants dedicated to helping fund worthy causes across the country. Each purchase made via the GoodShop mall results in a donation to the user's designated charity or school - averaging approximately 3% of the sale, but going up to 20% or even more. In addition, you can download hundreds of coupons for participating businesses through GoodCoupons.
Please help ALCM win $1,000! Download and use the GoodApp (which includes GoodSearch, GoodShop and GoodCoupons) and you will earn donations for ALCM every time you search and shop online - for free! If we have the most apps downloaded, we also win the grand prize! You can download the ALCM GoodApp here: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/association-of-lutheran-church-musicians-alcm.

From the folks at
Lutheran Summer Music
Thank you for your continued support of Lutheran Summer Music Academy. We appreciate your partnership and are excited to welcome so many of your students to this summer's academy.
There is still room for students to enroll at LSM this summer. If you have a gifted young musician in your congregation, we would enjoy an opportunity to add them to the 2012 LSM community!
LSM will make every effort to find a placement for all students who want to attend LSM, but we have an urgent need for violas, bassoons and male vocalists.
Less urgent, but certainly helpful, we are guessing many of your Easter services include some young brass musicians. We still have some studio space for: trumpets , trombones or French horns.
For these students, the 15% student discount through the "Friends & Family" Challenge is still available. Click here to qualify your student(s) for this discount. (NOTE: Funds are getting low, so be sure to nominate your student ASAP!.)
For more information, contact Sue Olstad, director of admissions at solstad@lutheransummermusic.org or by phone at 888-635-6583. |
