25/25 Campaign a Huge Success

At the Seattle Biennial Conference several ALCM-ers seeded a $2,500 challenge fund for the purpose of beginning scholarships for students to attend ALCM events and conferences. Conference attendees were invited to contribute $25 in celebration of ALCM's 25th anniversary. As a a result, the ALCM registration/display table became a hub of activity as the donation's began to flow in. By conference end the $2,500 challenge was more than matched. To date the total received (including the challenge) is $6,850.

Thank you to the forward thinking challengers and the generous contributors for helping to make an ALCM  vision come true. If you have not yet made your 25/25 contribution, please follow the link to www.alcm.org/donate. Be sure to note that your donation is for the 25/25 fund.

Interim Executive Director

From the Seattle Conference Chair

Seattle Conference LogoMany thanks to all who have kindly expressed appreciation for the August national conference. After more than two years of preparation, I believe I can speak for the entire conference committee and all our advisors when I admit to a mixture of relief and gratitude that everything went well.

For all who assisted in the preparation and presentation of the conference: job well done, praise the Lord!

Conference Chair

Conference Handouts Available

Several of the handouts used in conference workshops and reading sessions have been posted in the Members Area of the web site. To access these handouts you must first login to the Members Area. While you are logged in, check out the other free downloadable resources available as part of your ALCM membership. If you cannot remember or do not know your username and/or password, send an email to [email protected].

One-Minute Devotions

One-Minute Devotions for the Church Musician are posted on the web site each week. If you would like to receive an email notification/reminder each time a new devotion is posted, let us know at [email protected]. The devotion for this Sunday (9/11) has been posted. Why not start this new program year with a commitment to use these short devotions each week!

Congratulations. . .

. . . to Paul Weber, whose composition "All Who Believe and Are Baptized" (previously available for free download on the ALCM web site) has been published by Concordia Publishing House. Since it is now under their copyright, we have removed this piece from the ALCM web site. Remember,

copies made from the previously posted version are no longer legal copies. If you wish to continue using this piece, please purchase copies from Concordia.

Do you have compositions that could be shared with other ALCM members? Send them to [email protected] for posting. If you later are able to find a publisher for the piece, we will remove it from our site and provide a link to the published piece, which will give it a bit of extra exposure. Check out the guidelines for submission for more information.

Legible handwritten manuscripts, although not ideal, can certainly also be used. If you do not have the ability to scan a manuscript to make a PDF file, you can mail the manuscript directly to the ALCM office and we can process it (see address below).

A Footnote From the Business Manager

As some of you know, an inner ear infection "grounded" me the day before I was to leave for the Seattle conference, so it wasn't until after the conference, when all of the money, checks and credit card charges were sent to me in a (heavily insured) package, that I realized the incredible generosity that had been a part of conference.

Offerings were gathered at the hymn festival and at the closing Eucharist to benefit Northwest Harvest, a Washington-based organization whose mission is "to provide nutritious food to hungry people statewide in a manner that respects their dignity, while fighting to eliminate hunger." Almost $7,500 was collected at those two events and given to Northwest Harvest! What generosity!

As Kate reported above, money poured in for ALCM's "25 for the 25th" campaign and the challenge was met and exceeded. Again, thanks for the generosity both of the conference attendees and others who have provided the initial funding for this new initiative.

Finally, a word of thanks to all of those who took on extra work at the conference to cover my duties in my absence. I won't name names, because I would surely forget someone. You all know who you are and your generosity in taking on additional work at the last minute was greatly appreciated!
