The ALCM 2011 Local Planning Committee encourages you to come to Seattle for the ALCM Biennial Conference.  The Pacific Northwest is a vacation land waiting for you to explore! Plan to come early to extend your stay with friends and/or family for adventure and fun. Whale watching, float plane excursions on Kenmore Air, San Juan Islands, traditional Native American Salmon Bake at Tillicum (just a short ferry ride away from downtown Seattle) are just a few of the many things to do. The natural beauty is amazing and spectacular - two mountain ranges (the Cascades and Olympics) frame the area - Mount Rainier and Mount Baker are stunning - the many lakes and the Puget Sound are beautiful!

Family apartments are available on the campus of Seattle University at about half the price of the local hotels.  We have permission to arrive a little early and stay a little late as well. Just think, if mom or dad attends the conference, what will the rest of the family do? No problem in Seattle!

For even more ideas for your Seattle vacation, check out our pages at www.alcm.org

To follow our planning progress "friend" our page on Facebook at ALCM Seattle.  If you have specific questions about the conference you can email us at: alcmseattle@alcm.org.

LYCNA Singers to Travel to Germany

LYCNA logoThe Lutheran Youth Choir, founded in 2005 by Philip Spencer, a charter member of ALCM, is inaugurating a new international Festival of American and Global Vocal Music for high school youth, July 27-August 9, 2011, co-sponsored by the ELCA Wittenberg Center and the International YMCA. American and German students will stay for one week in a restored medieval castle near Wittenberg, Germany, singing a variety of American sacred and secular vocal music together. In addition to rehearsals and music workshops, there will be 20 hours of documented mission and community service opportunities, recreation and sightseeing. In the summer of 2012, the festival reconvenes back in the Chicago area for a week of global music, drawing upon the musical resources of that world-class city.

Visit www.lutheranyouthchoir.org or the Lutheran Youth Choir on Facebook for complete information about the 2011 and 2012 festivals. Early discount registration deadline is December 31, 2010.

Resources for Advent

ALCM members Larry Finke and David Schack have contributed some lovely Advent additions to the Members Area of the ALCM web site. Larry shares with us some hymn introductions that utilize the choir; David has provided gospel acclamations for the four Sundays in Advent for cantor or small choir.

Have you written something that can be shared with other ALCM members? Check out the submission guidelines accessible on the Members Area main page.

Do you have ideas for things that would be helpful additions to the Members Area? Send an email to office@alcm.org.
