The Next Level - Customization

Now that I have firmly established a "baseline" for online training, I can address the special requests that I get for:

  • We are sitll using Office 2003, do you offer video tutorials for Excel 2003?
  • We just got a new computer and Office 2007 is installed. Do you have videos tutorials for Excel 2010, Word 2010 and PowerPoint 2010?

Next week, I am moderating a session, "Speed Dating with the Publishers" at the Retail Print Music Dealers Association (RPMDA) convention in Tampa Bay, FL. 18 Music Publishers will be given a time slot ranging between 1 and 4 minutes to "tempt the audience" into visiting their exhibit space during the convention.

As I was coaching the publisher representatives who will be presenting in this session, I streesed these points:

  • The "average" speaking rate in North America is 150 Words per Minute (WPM). So, if you are speaking for two minutes, then 300 words is the absolute maximum to use during your presentation.
  • You audience, is constantly "tuning out" and then "tuning back into" what you are saying - so keep the focus on yout audience and NOT on your products.
  • "Tempt" don't tell. Entice your audience to want to know more about what you have to offer - to them!

My Free Video Lesson on This Topic

I directed them to this posting - from four years ago - that I published on my blog. When you click on the link, you will be able to contrast the effectiveness of a written article and a spokenn - with video support - presentation.

Judge for yourself, which is more engaging for "today's audience."
