Using Social Media to Engage Customers | I recently attended an industry conference where everyone - it seemed - wanted to learn how to start using Social Media to promote their business. Social Media (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Blogs, etc.) is everywhere - it seems. And, Social Media is no longer just for kids - or so it seems.
However, to be successful in using Social Media in a business context, do not use it to "promote" your business. That is a one-way road to scorn and derision from the online community. You will be branded as being phoney, commercial, self-serving ... Not a good way to gain new customers!
A better approach is to learn how to "engage" customers so that they want to learn more about how your products and services can help them to get what they want. And a great way to learn how to do this is to follow the AIDA process - a proven process that has guided the Direct Marketing Industry for decades. AIDA is an acronym for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.
