Happy New Year to You! First things first.... a New Year greeting:
I am writing this January newsletter while I am stuck home during these snowy days in December! I do enjoy watching the snow falling...makes me feel like I'm trapped in a giant snow globe. I hope everyone enjoyed the white Christmas that was bestowed upon us.
I have lots of exciting things planned for this year. All of them to better serve YOU! Up-dates to my website and the format of this newsletter are in process. (they might all get accomplished during these snowed-in days right now!) Among my wish list of what I want to do is add a pathology comment column to this newsletter.[first one is here in this newsletter. See P.I. below.] I want to start teaching classes on essential oils. (more on this topic in a bit.) I have had requests from many clients to start up my knitting classes again (actually a knitting social). I am willing to organize this and set it up as a round robin type social. Every month it can be held at a different member's home. I will need for those interested in participating to email me with what evening is available to them to be hostess/host.
Many of you know that I am also a certified Aroma Therapist. I believe essential oils should be made available to everyone for home self-care. I am very excited about my starting to teach essential oils...
Aromatherapy is not just smell good oils! Essential oils are pure extracts from plants. Essential oils are the life blood of plants, gifts from the earth that we can benefit from to keep ourselves healthy. Essential oils have a wide variety of uses, some of which are air purification, fragrance, aromatherapy, cleaning, cooking, first aid and pet care. My classes will be designed for the lay-person to understand the properties of the oils and how to safely use these wonderful pure, potent, plant remedies for every day use.
Essential Oil classes will be held one Saturday each month... stay tuned for which Saturday, as I need time to organize this too. If you are interested, please email me. I will need an attendance count to have all supplies and materials at the classes. I have not yet worked out the cost of the classes as this will vary depending on which oils I will be teaching.
It is still cold and flu season! An excellent preventative measure or to help you recover faster from a cold or flu that you already caught is to receive a Raindrop Therapy Treatment. This is available as an add-on to any massage for $15.00 . It works. I promise! And you will feel terrific.
January is my birthday month... in celebrating my miracle half- century mark, I'm giving you a birthday gift! Check out the wild savings on the email coupon for this month! (scroll to the bottom of the page) Full Body Hot Stone massages are fantastic for these cold winter months. (A full description of this massage is on my website.)
I was introduced to the following website by a friend that is concerned about the economy and how each of us are going to be able to survive the years to come. He wishes to help others build inflation proof financial security. I wanted to share this talking website with you! It has an interesting topic. I found it really simple to sign up for this. (What I like best about this deal is I love getting these in the mail every month and they are truly beautiful. Silver will never be devalued like the Federal Reserve Notes)
I'm having be so much fun with this, I even added this link to my website for everyone to have access (see Beau's favorite websites page). You too can get free silver dollars EVERY month! I hope you take a little time to listen to the message and try it for a few months. Check it out. Click the link provided right here: I will continue to send out this monthly promotional featuring the current special I might be offering, letting you know about any new services or products being offered, and making announcements of anything new at White Dragon Therapies. I only send out ONE email (usually on the first of each month) every month. If you do not wish to receive these newsletters, please use the "safe unsubscribe" feature at the bottom of this page. I am paying to use Constant Contact to help me provide and deliver this newsletter to you. Constant Contact is permission only based email. I ask that you please do not click the spam button on your computer to discontinue receiving these newsletters. If I get too many spam notices on my account, Constant Contact will discontinue my membership. When you call to schedule your appointment, please mention any coupons or gift certificates that you are wanting to redeem.
Wishing you and all your loved ones continued good health.

(keep in mind that a massage therapist
is NOT a physician. I am not qualified to diagnose or prescribe. I am
however able to asses and provide self care suggestions and refer clients to specialist. So, with this
in mind here we go...) Pathology Insight: Head Aches
I
had a difficult time choosing which ailment to provide a brief overview
to kick-off my newly created dedicated section of this newsletter.
There are so many illnesses, symptoms and injuries for which massage
therapy can provide some form of relief. I find myself experiencing
some anxiety over this newly created column (I was getting a head ache!) that I had to
re-think how this section is going to be beneficial to my clients.
Decisions, decisions....I was taught in massage school that
there are 2 types of head ache pain. Tension and Migraine. But
according to the International Headache Society (IHS) [yes, there is indeed an organization by this name. I was amazed too!] there are 12
categories of headache types. It gets even more daunting when
investigating the depths of the 12 standardized descriptions of the
headache symptoms. Headaches are also divided into "primary" and
"secondary" conditions. This meaning that the pain in the head is the condition or the pain in the head is the result
of the condition. And a person can be suffering from multiple
conditions/categories of headache at the same time. It is difficult to
write a short paragraph on the causes of this head pain as there are so
many. (i.e. spinally mediated, chronic daily, trigger point stimuli,
sleep distrubances, postural imbalances, TMJ dysfunction, etc.) I have
found that stress (in any excessive amount --which again varies from
person to person and can be in the form of emotional, physical and mental) is the root of most tension headaches. Stress
is a trigger point stimuli. It causes muscles to tighten, limiting
range of motion, prohibiting blood flow. It creates a vicious pain cycle.
The more the stress, the worse the condition becomes making the
headache more debilitating, in turn causing more muscle tightening.
Each of us has our own unique stressors. Stress manifests itself within
each of us in a multitude of different forms and each of us in turn
have variable tolerances to deal with those stressors. All this information does
not seem like I'm being very helpful. Not to worry. While I am not
able to remedy the cause of the stress, I am able to help you with the
result of the stress. That headache! ...and the pain.Massage therapy is an
excellent treatment to break the headache cycle by stopping the
squeezing of the blood vessels and nerves that the muscles are doing. Getting the
muscles to release the vice grip (tight continuous contraction) and
ultimately allowing the body to relax, enables increased circulation,
lowers blood pressure, increases the endorphin levels and the pain goes
away. It is important to maintain good muscle tissue care
after the headache goes away. The goal here is to reduce sympathetic
nervous system firing, hypertonicity, trigger points and joint
dysfunctions as well as increase range of motion and tissue health.
Massage therapy as part of your health care routine can achieve these
goals. If you have a pathology topic that you would like me
to comment on, please email me. I would be most happy to write about
what any of you want to know about and how massage therapy may help you. |
