Dear Friends,

Welcome to our first issue of Homefront eNews, The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care's email newsletter. As we gear up for our 15th anniversary in March 2010, we'll be providing you important updates on the Foundation's progress through this newsletter.

To our valued donors, we thank you for your support throughout 2009. It's been a challenging year for everyone, and we are grateful for your continued support of our mission to provide comfort, support and hope to cancer patients and their families.

In 2009, we've built upon our mission through construction of a state-of-the-art Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Clinic at Floating Hospital for Children. The Clinic is scheduled to open in early 2010 and will serve an important need for children with cancer.

Since 1995, The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care has averaged donating 91 cents of every dollar directly to the programs we fund. We believe in supporting initiatives that produce immediate and tangible results, and our objective is to make every dollar go to work now.

Please consider making a year-end gift during this holiday season and help us help cancer patients and their families. Make a gift

We hope you enjoy our inaugural eNewsletter. Thank you again for your generous support. From our family to yours, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

Advanced Treatments for Glioblastoma

Al CharestWith the help of a $1 million research grant from The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, Al Charest, MSc, PhD, and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Tufts Medical Center, continues to make important advances in Glioblastoma research. This is the same brain tumor Senator Edward Kennedy succumbed to this past August.

As part of the Foundation's $5 million pledge to create the Michael Neely Center for Brain Tumor Care and Research, this 3-year grant was made in 2006 to help Dr. Charest establish his lab and lead his team in discovering new treatments for Glioblastoma. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Charest has received additional grants from the American Cancer Society and the National Institutes of Health that will help support his research for at least another 5 years.

Pedi Hem Onc Construction

In 2005, The Cam Neely Foundation made a $5 million pledge to support Pediatric cancer patients and their families at Floating Hospital for Children through the Neely Foundation Hematology/ Oncology Project. The first phase of the project was the successful completion of the Neely Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in 2008. The second phase includes the renovation of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic on Floating 2. Renovation of this critically important outpatient clinic recently began and is scheduled to be completed in early 2010.

The Clinic will provide comprehensive outpatient consultative, therapeutic and support services for pediatric cancer and hematology patients and their families in a state-of-the-art, family-friendly environment. In the same spirit of design used for the Neely Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, the overall feel of the clinic will be one of warmth and support, creating the Neely Foundation's signature "home away from home" environment. The Clinic features a tree house concept - from its play and waiting areas to throughout the clinic - utilizing colors and an overall design that transforms the clinic into a place of comfort and serenity that is appealing both to young patients and families dealing with the stresses of childhood cancer.

Comics Come Home celebrated 15 years of laughs by shattering its all-time attendance record. The longest-running comedy benefit in the nation hosted 5,993 supporters at Agganis Arena on November 7. Thanks to our friend and host Denis Leary, the event has raised more than 4.5 million since 1995.

The show kicked off with a video montage of highlights from years past as well as congratulatory messages from the Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox. It featured brilliant performances from Denis Leary, Bill Burr, Lenny Clarke, Whitney Cummings, Adam Ferrara, Patrice Oneal, Kenny Rogerson, Jeff Ross and Tony V and was highlighted with a first-time appearance from actor and late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon.

Our many thanks to everyone who came out to support the Foundation. We hope you enjoyed the evening!
