State of the City Address
The City of Milton has come a long way since its incorporation on December 1, 2006. We set the bar high for ourselves and I am proud to say that we have exceeded our expectations. I would like to take a moment to share some of our many accomplishments in 2008 and our hopes and goals for the future of Milton.
I'd like to start by thanking my council colleagues: Karen Thurman, Julie Zahner Bailey, Bill Lusk, Burt Hewitt, Tina D'Aversa and Alan Tart. Without their commitment I do not believe we would have come as far as we have.
I would like to thank our incredible City Staff. They have worked countless hours bringing our dreams for Milton to fruition.
Most importantly I'd like to thank all of you, the residents and business owners of the City of Milton. You are the reason we do what we do and why we strive to make Milton the greatest city in the state of Georgia. Thank you for your continued support, for your strong spirit, your commitment to volunteerism and your faith in what we do every day. Read the complete address |

Lagerbloom New City Manager
Christopher J. Lagerbloom was officially appointed to the City Manager position for the City of Milton on Monday, Feb. 16.
The City Manager, appointed by Mayor and Council, functions as the City's chief operating officer, overseeing staff and daily activities. "In working previously with Chris as Acting City Manager of Milton I strongly believe he is the right man for the job," Mayor Lockwood said. Prior to joining Milton, Lagerbloom served as captain for the Alpharetta Police Department for 11 years. He has been an adjunct instructor at Reinhardt College since early 2008 teaching classes in public safety leadership. He also is co-chair of the State Certification Committee for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, a Council-appointed member of the Alpharetta Code Enforcement Board, and was the Public Safety Work Team Leader for Milton's steering committee. In addition, Lagerbloom is a member of the International Association of City/County Managers, Georgia Municipal Association and International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Law Enforcement Torch Run
The City of Milton's Public Safety Department is raising money and awareness for this year's Special Olympics Georgia. For the first time, the department is selling T-shirts, caps and koozies with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics. The department also hopes to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is the largest annual fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics. Each public safety official interested in running must raise $100 for the event.
The Torch Run culminates at the State Summer Games as officers enter the Opening Ceremony with the Olympic Torch - the Flame of Hope. The Torch is passed to a Special Olympics athlete who lights the Olympic cauldron signifying "Let the games begin!"
To donate money or to buy a T-shirt, cap or koozie, visit Milton City Hall at 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Milton, GA 30004.

Climb Atlanta 2009
A 10-member team of Milton Firefighters called the Milton Clydesdales will be participating in Climb Atlanta, an event benefiting the American Lung Association. The Department's goal was to raise $1,000 and so far they have exceeded that amount by $55. During the event, which will be hosted at 191 Peachtree Tower on April 18 from 10am - 1pm, the Milton team will climb 50 floors (1150 steps) in full bunker gear which includes: helmet, coat, pants, boots, gloves and liner. Captain Clydesdale, Christopher Seay, is back for his third year and uses the climb to encourage fitness within the department.
Climb Atlanta has a special category for firefighters and other first responders who can use this challenge as a training exercise or to encourage fitness among their department. Different teams of firefighters compete for special awards and ascend the stairs after all other climbers.

Raijin: K9 in Training
Raijin, the City of Milton's newest police dog candidate, recently completed extensive training in trailing. Milton Police Officer and Georgia K9 Academy owner Kelli Collins and her partner Jeff Schettler have been training Raijin since he was around 10 weeks old.
Trailing is the K9 discipline of following a specific human odor from a person's start point, along the path the person traveled and finally to the place they ended. It is by far the most difficult of all K9 disciplines because it requires intense effort on the part of both the dog and handler, often over many miles.

Milton FD Participates in St. Baldrick's
The City of Milton's Fire Department is "shaving the way to conquer kids' cancer." For the first time, the FD is participating in an event sponsored by the St. Baldrick's Foundation to raise awareness and money to cure kids' cancer.
Firefighter Christopher Seay will shave his head during one of the many St. Baldrick's events held around Atlanta this year. The money raised will go toward cancer research and fellowships.
According to the St. Baldrick's Web site, the concept began as a casual conversation between friends and has exploded into one of the world's biggest volunteer-driven fundraising programs for childhood cancer. In nine years, events have taken place in 18 countries and 48 US states, raising over $50 million, and shaving more than 72,000 heads.
To learn more and to find out ways to participate, call the Public Safety Department, 678-242-2570 or visit St. Baldrick's Web site.
