Spiritual Warfare

Manassero Family

Greetings in the name of our awesome Lord and Creator Jesus Christ,

We appreciate so very much the fact that you take the time to read this newsletter and to share with us all the wonderful and amazing things God is doing here in Haiti.

In Haiti, October and November are big voodoo months where there are many ceremonies and activities focused around voodoo holidays. The only more active voodoo periods here are in March/April, near the time we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.

In North America, people are celebrating Halloween and the Day of the Dead at this time. Here in Haiti, November 1st and 2nd are All Saints Day and All Souls Day where they believe that the Guede loa (a Haitian spirit or demon) comes out of the cemeteries, possess their horses and comes into the hounforts (temples) to amuse themselves in the form of souls incarnated or reincarnated.

Spiritually and physically, there are many strange things that occur at this time - an increase in illness, moral failings, animal sacrifices and violence - these are just a few of the many disheartening occurrences during these months. Therefore, this is a time of heavy prayer for Christians serving here.

For the past 7 years, we have sought to counter the voodoo celebrations with an abundance of Spirit-filled worship, praise, prayer and fasting.  We've had prayer walks, mountaintop prayer meetings, all-day prayer and various worship sessions and bible studies with the staff and children of the orphanage. We take this time to celebrate the victory we have in Christ, his resurrection and the power we have over the dark things happening in Haiti at this time. We celebrate our Savior and the joy we have in our salvation and proclaim these things to our neighborhood and the local community.

It is sad to see the bondage voodoo has over so many people in Haiti. It is even sadder to think that in a nation that fought so hard to break free from slavery under the French 200 years ago that they would exchange that victory for more bondage in their ancestors' religion. This time as an opportune time to share what perfect freedom we enjoy in a relationship with the living God  through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Please pray for us and other Christians here in Haiti that are actively engaged in spiritual warfare at this time, against the dark forces that seek to imprison, kill and destroy. Pray that the scales will fall from the eyes of the deceived and that they will find salvation and hope in our loving, perfect God who brings life, love and eternal peace.

In Christ in Haiti,

The Manasseros

Isguerda

Meet Isguerda

Isguerda is a very special young woman who loves Jesus with all her heart. When we first met Isguerda she was living on the streets of Port-au-Prince with a pack of five or six other girls, ranging from six to twelve years of age. The girls would spend their days approaching cars in slow-moving traffic on Delmas Blvd. to beg for money, food or whatever they could get.  It became obvious, as we got to know them, that Isguerda was their "mother hen" of sorts, brooding over them, keeping them together, and protecting them from bad people and other street evils.  She was tough as nails and had no problem going toe-to-toe with any street boy or anyone else who gave her or her girls a hard time.

When we approached Isguerda and her friends to live at our girls home they were ecstatic.  They were also very suspicious and cautious.  When they visited the home and felt comfortable with us we next contacted their relatives to obtain permission for the girls to stay.

Isguerda was in the first group of girls we rescued off the street when we first opened the girls home.  When she first arrived at the home, her aggressive personality and tough exterior suggested that we were going to have a difficult time with her -- and we did.

She would bark back at us when asked to do things and was very bossy to the girls and staff.  But, over time, as the Lord got hold of her heart, and as she began to trust us and realize that she was truly in a safe place, a transformation began to took place.  Her rough tom boy demeanor eventually faded as she started wearing pretty dresses and began to enjoy being a "girly-girl" for the first time in her life -- something she could never risk on the street.  As her tough exterior began to fade, this lovely, beautiful young girl began to emerge.  She realized she didn't have to be the mother-hen protector any longer.  She could enjoy just being a little girl and one of God's precious princesses.

We found out that Isguerda loved to sing and her beautiful voice would shine above the other girls' voices as they would sing praise and worship songs during morning and evening devotionals.  Her beautiful voice eventually got her an invitation by Mr. Bill to sing as part of the worship team at Port-au--Prince Fellowship Church.

One of her favorite things to do, even early on, was to do the other girls hair, braiding them into elaborate patterns and designs that everyone loved.  Soon, even the staff women working at the orphanage were asking her to do their hair.  She was later given a part-time job as hairdresser for the girls.  She shared with us how it was her dream to one day have her own beauty shop and to do hair, nails and more full-time as a career.  As people heard about her interest, she started to get support in her dream and, this year, she enrolled in a beauty school where she has classes in the afternoons (after her regular school) and Saturdays.  We have even opened up a web fund-raising site to raise funds for Isguerda's Beauty Shop.

Isguerda has tremendously grown in her faith over the years and has developed a deep love for God's word.  She will often quote favorite scriptures to you in the course of any conversation.  She calls herself "God's Girl" and says she only wants to live a life that pleases and honors Him.  See her comments in a recent video.

Isguerda is a special girl that God is already using in a powerful way.  Please remember her in your prayers.  If you are interested in sponsoring Isgerda, you may do so online.  If you want to support her beauty school tuition or beauty shop, go here.  Thank you and God bless.

Christmas Elves Needed!
Have you ever wondered how you could make a significant difference this Christmas?  How about something that shares the true meaning and hope of the Savior's birth in Haiti?  Well, come to Haiti during your Christmas vacation to bless over 400 needy children!

We are looking for interested individuals, families or teams who are interested in coming to Haiti in December to bless children in Haiti and help present the Gospel to hundreds through Child Hope's annual Christmas Pageant on Saturday, December 17.

Our Christmas Pageant is an annual outreach event where the children of Maison de Lumiere orphanage (MDL) school and the muTch feeding program put on a special night of music, skits, dance, the nativity Christmas story (complete with live animals) and a hot meal is provided for the 400 plus attendees.  It is a chance to share the hope of Jesus with the people of Haiti in a profound and joyous way.

Putting this event together, however, requires many talented people working hard months before the event happens.  People who can come in earlier in the month or the week before the event can help with many aspects - production, direction, set building and design, lighting, music, choreography, sound, food prep, gift prep and more.

We are especially interested in people with stage production skills (directing, choreograpy, set design, etc.) but are opening this up to all able body, willing people who have a heart for Christ and the Haitian people and can help with setting up, organizing, wrapping gifts, transporting gifts from the U.S. and Canada and do just about whatever os needed.

If you are interested, contact Jessica Selga at jessica@childhope.org. Guest House space is limited, therefore, book your reservation early.  A 50% deposit is required to confirm.  THE DEADLINE TO APPLY IS November 15.
Other Ways to Help This Christmas

Besides traveling to Haiti to serve, there are many other ways to help our our efforts in Haiti.  Here are just a few:

Donate Online to Our Christmas efforts - If you have a family, you know how high the cost of Christmas can be.  Imagine having to purchase gifts for 50 kids, let alone feeding and giving small gifts to another 400 in the neighborhood.  A special online donation page has been developed for this purpose.

Collect Christmas Items - If you have the ability to collect needed gift items (50 tennis shoes, 50 sets of dress clothes, 50 soccer or basketballs, etc.)  we can coordinate to have the gifts picked up and delivered to Haiti for the kids at the orphanage.  Contact Jessica Selga at jessica@childhope.org for the specific gift lists.

Sponsor a Child - There are still children at the orphanage needing sponsors.  This would be an incredible Christmas gift for any of our kids.  The cost is only $25 per month. To sponsor go here. You could sponsor a child and put their picture in a Christmas stocking as a gift for one of your children.

Sponsor a Student - More than half the children attending MDL School are needy children from the neighborhood who would never be able to attend school.  We provide this education at almost no cost to these children but sponsorships are required to offset the costs.  For only $20 per month, you can sponsor a student at the MDL school.

Purchase Items for the Orphanage - Below is a list of items needed right now for the mission here in Haiti.  You can help out with specific needs today.  Pledge to purchase all or part of an item.

General Purpose Donation - This has been a difficult time for most charities because of the U.S. economy. Child Hope is no exception.  Any year-end donation would be greatly appreciated and valued for continuing efforts here in Haiti.

God bless you.

Needs
People are always saying, "Please let us know what you needs are so we can pray and help."  So, we are asking you to join us in prayer for our most pressing needs. The following needs are are few of the items we need at this time and we are inviting you to join us in prayer.

Electrical Transformer
Here in Haiti, when the power goes down, you have two choices: wait for the electric company (EDH) to fix the problem (six months or, sometimes, years) or you can fix it yourself.  Three of our facilities have major electrical problems because we have been waiting over a year for EDH to replace a bad transformer.  We have electric surges, low voltage and other problems that are destroying appliances and anything electrical at the Girls Home, Boys Home and School/Clinic. We would like to put in our own pole and transformer but it is expensive. To buy, install pole and wire a new Transformer it will cost $3,500.

Small Used Truck
Our little white truck that is used for hauling trash, picking up diesel gas, propane and a host of other things is out of commission and we need a replacement as soon as possible.  We are confident we can buy a small used truck for $2,000.

Staff House Generator
Currently, the new staff house (the old girls home) that houses interns shares a generator that is located at the new girls home (old guest house).  The generator is not doing well supplying power to both buildings.  Therefore, we are praying for funding to purchase a generator for the staff house.  Cost: $5,500.

Convection Oven
Great news!  The bakery micro-business that operates through the transition home, has just received a new contract to supply snacks (cookies, cupcakes, etc.) to Quesqueya Christian School.  This is wonderful for the program however all goods are being baked at Brittany Meadt's personal oven in her home and has limited baking space.  The school wants bakery goods sent daily but we can only supply three times a week. Approximate cost for a used convection oven: $2,700 (we have received a generous donation of $1,200 and only need $1,500 more).

Maybe there is an item or items on the above list you can assist with. To donate online, go here.  For more information call 888-808-9595.  Please join us in praying that the Lord will provide for these needs.  God bless.

Great Christmas Gift Idea!  Preachers4Christ Debut CD

Preachers4Christ Premier CD Israel Jean Baptist, 2010 MDL graduate, has a new CD called The Gospel and it is receiving rave reviews.  This unque music project is a mix of rap, hip hop and R&B flavored original Christian tunes, sung in English, and prominently featuring the soulful voices of Ariana Manassero and a local Haitian gospel singer named Mercado, inter-dispersed with rap choruses from the MDL boys.  The songs are a beautiful representation of the faith of it's composer and singers. Songs such as The Gospel (I'm Not Ashamed) and  Everything  are already receiving airplay on local Haitian radio.

We are so very thrilled about this project that we are encouraging all Child Hope supporters to listen to the CD and decide for themselves.  The CD is available for purchase through Child Hope, through our donation page, or it can be purchased/downloaded online at CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes.  It's a great Christmas gift idea!

Please pray that this CD will reach many hearts for Christ and that our Lord be glorified by these inspirational young people.
