Merry Christmas From All the Kids & Staff at MDL!
MDL Kids & Staff - Christmas 2010
The children, staff and missionaries at Maison de Lumiere want to wish you all a very merry, blessed and Christ-filled Christmas.  You have given us all the most wonderful gift by regularly praying for us, financially supporting us and through the giving of your time and talents for God's incredible work being accomplished here in Haiti.  We thank God for you daily.  We also want to give a gigantic thank you to our Father in heaven who gives us the most precious and perfect gift of all -- His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Haiti Celebration Dinner Postponed

As many of you who follow this ministry and Haiti in general know, the recent primary elections in Haiti have resulted in much chaos, protest, and even violence.  Allegations of fraud and manipulation have caused a tremendous stir throughout the country.   To make matters worse,  and despite the protests of the Haitian people and the objections of the International community, a final vote has been scheduled for the top two candidates on January 16th, the same day as our celebration dinner.  Because of the volatility and instability of the country during this critical vote, this is not a good day to be away from our children and staff.  Therefore, we are postponing the dinner to a later date that will be better for us to attend and be away from the orphanage.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you, especially those who have already purchased tables and seats.  You will be contacted regarding a refund or to hold your seats for the new date, which will be announced very soon.

We would ask that you still focus on Haiti on January 16th by joining us in a fast and prayer for the Haiti elections.  In the meantime, stay tuned for the announcement of the new Celebration Dinner  date.

Thank you and God bless you for your prayers and support.

Year-End Gift-Giving Ideas

As the year closes, many people are seeking ways to support  organizations they care about that will make the most impact.  The need is great in Haiti and God is doing amazing things through Child Hope as lives are being changed and transformed daily.

If you are interested in assisting us at at this critical time,  below are just a few of the areas where help is needed.  Thank you.

Child Sponsorship - A number of children at the orphanage still need sponsorship.  As we have expanded our girls home and graduates leave the boys home, new children who were orphaned from the earthquake are coming into our orphanage and need sponsorship.  Won't you consider investing in a young life for as little as $25 a month? Just click this link https://childhope.webconnex.com/sponsor_a_child to sponsor  a child in Haiti (please note this is a monthly commitment).

MDL School Education Sponsorship - Many needy children from in Haiti cannot afford school, therefore we have established a sponsorship/scholarship program to help the children by either enrolling them into our MDL School or helping them attend outside schools.  We need sponsors for these kids.  Sponsorship is only $20 per month.  Click here to begin sponsoring a child's education (please note this is a monthly commitment but you can also just give once)

New Guest House Construction - Contribute to help us make the renovations  at our new guest house so we can open the new expanded girls home (at the old guest house).  Click here to donate to these new renovations.

Medical/Cholera Fund - The cholera epidemic is not ceasing in Haiti.  Over 2,500 people have died and tens of thousands have been impacted.  We still need funds to continue prevention and treatment efforts.  We also need funds to continue to operate our free community clinic for needy people in our area who cannot afford medical care.  Click here to donate to our medical clinic and cholera fund.

Haitian HouseBuy a House for a Homeless Family - Only $2500 purchases a nice new home for a family of 6 to 8.  Help us help earthquake victims to move out of tents and into real homes.  To purchase a home, click here

Earthquake Relief - we will likely run out of funds in June if we don't replenish this fund.  There is still much work to do.  This fund helps us to repair earthquake-damaged homes, build new homes and rent new homes for homeless families.  To contribute to earthquake relief click here.

Property Fund - Child Hope hopes to purchase property one day that will house all the ministries currently requiring seven rented properties.  Help us purchase land that will house the orphanage, school, a chapel, vocational training center, guest house, agricultural land, medical clinic and more.  Contribute to the property fund today

Widows Fund - Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  James 1:27.  Child Hope is committed to assisting widows by training them in job skills, offering micro-business loans and assisting them in times of crisis.  Our Widows Fund allows us to do this.

Wedding Chapel Ministry Fund - Child Hope is on a quest to assist couples who want to get married, an expense most Haitians can't afford.  We have helped two couples to get married already this year.  We are looking for donations of wedding dresses, matching bridal party gowns, tuxedos, wedding decorations, serving sets and cash to help couples who want to honor God by getting legally married.  We assist with all aspects of the marriage from ring, licenses, church ceremony, fees and the entire reception.  Click here to donate to this fund or contact us at Child Hope to donate wedding items.

Missionary Support - Missionaries serving in Haiti or raising support to come and serve with Child Hope in Haiti need your help.  Your monthly support of these missionaries will help them to serve as God calls them and to support the ongoing efforts of Child Hope in Haiti.  This page lists some of our current long term staff members raising funds.

These are just a few of the many ways you can tangibly assist with Child Hope's efforts in Haiti.  Of course, one of the best ways you can help is to continue to pray daily for the children and staff at the orphanage. Your regular prayers are greatly appreciated. Also, you might consider coming to Haiti to serve with a missions team or for a longer period of time.  Volunteers are also needed in the states to assist with many projects and events.  To serve, contact us at the Child Hope offices.

Thank you and may the Lord bless you abundantly this holiday season.

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:9-14)
