Blessings!

Greetings in the name of our Wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We just passed the six month anniversary of the quake which hit January 12, 2010. There is much to learn from what has happened. We have written a brief six month update at our website. We are so very grateful for our Lord who has covered us during this difficult season. We praise and honor Him and trust in His provision. Please join us in prayer as the nation continues to pick up the pieces. It is more important than ever to turn to hearts to our Lord and continue to pray and seek his will. ___________________ ...if my people, who are called by my name, will humbles themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.2 Chronicles 7:14 _________________ Please join us in prayer for the following: Praise the Lord for being our
Fortress, Stronghold and Deliverer and for His protection of all our
children. That from this tragedy God would
provide new opportunities to rebuild Haiti for His
glory. That Haitians would unite in peace
and solidarity of purpose to rebuild
Haiti. That gangs would lay down their
arms for tools to join the
rebuilding. There there would be a spiritual
awakening in Haiti and among those who are moved to
help. That God would protect and
strengthen all the aid workers faced with so much tragedy. That the leadership of Child Hope would be
united as we undergo a discernment process regarding our role in rebuilding
Haiti and the future of our children. That the Lord would continue to
protect our children and secure our properties from further
damage. That we
would be strengthened and renewed, that we would not grow weary as we deal
with this tragedy on the
ground, day-to-day. That God would renew His call on
each of us and strengthen us to do His work, His will whenever and wherever He
calls. Thank you dear friends. God bless you. The Manasseros |

Meet Christella
She seems quiet to the point of being shy. Making eye contact is more an effort than a challenge. A bigger challenge only to making her smile. For a stranger -- forget it! You'll have to try to break the ice on your next visit. Christella is a very special girl that has lived most her life on the streets of Port-au-Prince. She's a survivor. Hard as nails. Crafty. A fierce competitor who loves to play. Knowing more than she ever wanted to know about the ugly side of life. But beneath the tough exterior is a sweet little girl who is just trying to reclaim a lost childhood. At thirteen, soon to be fourteen, she has lived and seen more than most people ever will in a lifetime. The streets are hard anywhere in the world but in Port-au-Prince a child becomes an adult if they want to live. As one of our newer residents, when I told her I wanted to profile her in our newsletter, she was excited. Asking a few questions about favorite things to do, favorite school subjects and best friends was easy. But when I asked her to tell me about life before the orphanage she just broke down. No words. Just tears. There was nothing she wanted to say. Nothing she could say. We know little about her pre-MDL life. There is no family to speak of but she claims they are out there somewhere. We found her after she had shaved her head and was pretending to be a boy to get into a special home for street boys. When she was discovered a friend who was involved in the program called and basically said, "She can't go back to the street." We know that most street girls would rather take up residence in a person's home where they are regularly abused than to subject themselves to the unknowns of sporadic and ofttimes frightening abuse on the streets. Even though we had no space at the girls home we took her in and are so thankful we did. God is moving dramatically in this young girl's life -- and the best is yet to some. Although she has endured much in her short time on this earth she now has a new, very real relationship with Jesus. And He is healing and restoring her in an amazing way. She says with enthusiasm that her two favorite things in life are playing and praying. She loves sports -- soccer and basketball specifically, and any other game she can learn. But her passion is prayer. She loves to spend time with God regularly throughout the day and prays for people she knows. She's a prayer warrior. Her teachers say she is very bright -- especially in mathematics. She's been told her she can become anything she wants because with Christ "all things are possible" -- but that is a little too hard to grasp right now. A future, especially a promising one, is just too abstract to comprehend at this point in her life. That's o.k. God is taking his time with this gentle flower and He has great things in store. Please keep Christella in your prayers -- that God would continue healing and restoring, that she would learn to trust and surrender to His love and that she would find peace and solace in His presence.

Bob Herdman from Hands and Feet with Susette and our "no longer homeless" orphans | 30 Orphans Find a Home
Thank you Jesus! Our
prayers have been answered. In our last
newsletter we talked about 30 orphans we found living in a vacant lot because
their house collapsed after the earthquake.
We took them into our muTch feeding program and started feeding them. When it would rain, we tried to get
them to our boys home for shelter. And
although all these things helped it was only a temporary solution. So we prayed and we asked you to pray for a
permanent solution to their dilemma.
Thank you, Jesus, for answering our prayers! Thanks to your prayers and the grace of God,
we have found a new home for these children. A good friend and the director of Hands and Feet orphanage in Jacmel,
Bob Herdman, has agreed to rent a home for the orphans in Port-au-Prince and
take them in under their ministry.
Hands and Feed Ministry started at about the same time as
Maison de Lumiere in Haiti with very similar missions - to raise up the next
generations of disciples in Haiti. They are
currently expanding to other locations in Haiti and were looking at Port-au-Prince
when we approached them.
The new orphanage is only a short distance from MDL and may
even employ some of our MDL graduates.
We are so very thrilled to know that soon these special
little children will have a nice big home and lots of love close by. God is so good! Praise the Lord!

Welcome Ivens!
We are blessed to announce the MDL School's new school
principal -- Ivens Bastien. He is a long-time
friend to Child Hope in Haiti and has now come aboard as our full-time principal.
He comes to us with an extensive educational
background as a former principal and teacher at various Haitian and American
style schools here in Haiti. His
teaching/administrative abilities, love of the Lord and children, will make him
an excellent addition to our ministry team here in Haiti.
He was an active participant in the later part of our school's
summer session and our last semester as an English school. Although we will continue with English
classes and special English-based programs, beginning in fall, MDL School will
become an all-French school.
Ivens has a lot of good ideas and programs for the school and we are looking forward to his leadership and participation.
Please join us in welcoming Ivens and please remember to include
him in your prayers.

The "Ben's" Is Getting a Roof!

A dream come true!
While here to build houses and help with other repair projects, a team
from Wellspring Christian Fellowship in Washington state began one of our
biggest post-earthquake projects - putting a roof on part of our sports and recreation center. Immediately after the earthquake, we started holding church
services in Ben's (our little sports center next to the boys home), up on the
basketball court. It was a place where
local people could "come as you are," heal and find hope and fellowship with
God's people. They could come without
worrying about how they were dressed or what they looked like to participate in
a Spirit-filled Creole/English service. The service was attended by many of the
families in a nearby ravine area we serve. The MDL staff and kids put on the
service every week. It was a beautiful
time. We have not held services in Ben's for a while but it has been our prayer to start doing so again. Although it is not completed yet (it still needs crossbars and a tin sheeting roof), the new roof structure will help make that possible. In addition to church services, the roof will allow us to better conduct our muTch
feeding program as it will serve as a shelter from the rain and sun. Praise God for this new addition and the incredible team of servants from Washington. |

Adriano Update

It's with great joy that we can share the news that this little guy is doing amazingly well. For those of you who do not know the story, he was a little baby that our daughter Ariana took into our home and nurtured for several months and he quickly became part of our family. He's a twin, and wasn't thriving. When we received him at three months, he weighed 5lbs 10oz. No matter how we much we fed him, he wouldn't gain much weight. We soon found out he had a heart condition that would require surgery. Our nurses Brooke James and Ashley Hapak, fed him daily through a feeding tube, as they worked on getting him to the States for surgery. Through a glorious chain of events, he was accepted to St. Christopher's Children's Hospital in Pennsylvania, where he received the surgery he needed. It was reported that his little heart was operating at only 10% capacity and that it was no small miracle that he had lived so long. We all knew Who sustained him. He is currently in Philadelphia, awaiting surgery for his club foot, and follow up care, and is expected to return to Haiti in a few months to be reunited with his birth mother. We ask that you all pray for this little warrior and that his transition would be easy and that he would properly bond with his mother and three siblings. We remain indebted and so thankful to the many people that helped (and continue to help), Adriano. The Body of Christ is truly a blessing on earth.
