Personal Message
Manassero Family
Greetings in the Name of our Mighty Merciful Lord!

We are so sorry it has taken such a long time get this email out.  Shortly after our last email, we were super busy with school wrapping up, teams, dear missionary friends departing for the States and a lot of other activities.  In June, we went to the California for our daughter Ariana's high school graduation (whoopee!!), to visit our oldest kids and to see our grand kids.  Then, after a short stay, we were back in Haiti, just in time for the incredible Camp-in-a-Box event.  Next, we went back briefly to the States for the wedding of our niece Katie.  As soon as we returned, we had the team of 20 from Southern California and our aggressive summer school schedule for the MDL kids.  This is the first semi-break we've had.

Nonetheless (enough excuses), it's great to be home and to see all the great things God continues to do with the children of Maison de Lumiere.

Thanks for all your prayers and continued support.  You are a blessing and you are making a difference!

God bless you.

The Manasseros

Camp in a Box 2009
What started out as an "American-style summer camp experience for the children in Haiti" has grown into a blockbuster, over-the-top, out-of-the-park, very special event that the kids of Maison de Lumiere cherish year after year.
Bumper Games
The second installment of "Camp in a Box," held July 6-11, brought us to a new location (held at a conference center in TiTianne, up the coast from Port-au-Prince) and a lot of new faces, with a team of 35 people from the States. Representing 18 different churches, approximately half of the team were visiting Haiti for the first time.

There was soccer, Robert with Semi, Willie B and Gregorysilly sports like bumper races, special vocational training classes, Bible studies, a talent show and plenty of great crafts.  Each day, the kids began the day with devotions, then breakfast (yes, wonderful camp food -- staying true to tradition), followed by great Bible teaching and worship in the outdoor auditorium. Games/sports, classes/crafts, and more camp food followed.  Each evening, our great camp speaker, Aaron Cameron, a pastor from Rancho del RFun in the sun at Kaliko Beachey Church in San Marcos, California, presented a powerful message, followed by outstanding worship and evening devotions.  All this, mixed together, with a touch of humor, lots of love and tons of laughter, made for an event the kids of Maison de Lumiere will remember for a lifetime.

Worship Band at Camp 2009Under the effective leadership of Darin and Carolyn Kruse, this year's camp theme was based on Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."  The teaching and small group activities emphasized the critical importance of daily knowing and living by God's Word.

Besides all the great fun, sports and non-stop activity, the children were chCamp prayer timeallenged in their faith to pursue a life of holiness and obedience to the Word of God.

We want to thank the Kruses, the Camerons and the entire Camp-in-a-Box 2009 team for another incredible camp and a job well done.  God bless you all!
Dana and Wesley Dana Ver Burg Joins Haiti Team
Dana Ver Burg, a familiar face to Haiti and especially Maison de Lumiere, graduated from Biola University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in intercultural studies.  She moved to Haiti this month to live out a lifelong dream to become a missionary.

Over the last few years, she has served the Lord in short and longer term missions opportunities in places like Mexico, Romania, Samoa and Haiti  -- but it was Haiti that truly grabbed her heart.  Ever since her first visit in 2002, followed by a three month stay with Maison de Lumiere in 2006, she knew Haiti was the place the Lord wanted her to serve.

Some of her new responsibilities include overseeing the feeding program, guest house management, mission team relations and sponsor and electronic communications, just to name a few.

The children at Maison de Lumiere love Dana and are very happy to see she's here to stay.  We are thrilled to have her as part of the Child Hope team and are asking that you include her in your prayers as she adjuss to her new life and responsibilities.

Welcome Dana!  May God bless and use you in a powerful way as you seek to serve Him by serving His very special children.

Missions Team Rocks Haiti During the Heat of SuFeedingmmer
A group of 20 young men and women began fasting and praying months before they even set foot on Haitian soil.  Their prayer was for God's provision, safety, direction and for the children and missionaries  they were about to see in Haiti from July 23 through August 1.

Their hMichelle Klewer with Fan Faneart was to come and serve.  To demonstrate the Love of Christ through selfless, joyful service.  To build, repair, paint, clean, feed, organize, love, teach and share the Word of God with the children of Maison de Lumiere.  All during some of the hottest summer months of the year.

Headed up by a dynamic leadership team consisting of Aaron Tao, AnAlex's Guitar Classdrew Bailey, Sarah Henderson and Janine Easton, the team carefully divided their efforts into work/construction/repair projects, organizing donations, crafts, teaching and sports.  In addition, they participated in early morning mountaintop prayer, a ravine feeding and capped it all off by treating the MDL kids to a special beach trip.

The work/consDan and John loving to buildtruction/repair team aggressively pursued and completed the following large-scale projects: rebuilt the termite-infested/decaying girls home play structure, built and painted two new picnic benches, built drawers for under the girls' beds, built storage shelves to help organize the storage depot's numerous plastic bins, created and organizd a kids clothing and shoe supply dRepairing the Girls Play Areaepot, added laundry lines to the guest house roof, installed ceiling fans, and numerous miscellaneous projects like repairing doors, fixing plumbing, etc.  The artistic members of the group painted murals and beautiful artwork at the boys home. This power team completed all these projects in less than 5 days!

The organizing team went through plastic bins full of donated items and organized the items by size, gender and usage.  The construction guys assisted by building shelves and racks for a supply deArtist team painting muralspot for replenishing kids clothes and helping neighborhood children.  A huge task!  Crafts teams provided great activities for the kids throughout each day.  A number of gifted Bible teachers also taught at our regular Bible classes and conducted some special evening lessons as well.  Some even helped teach English and other elective classes like guitar and sewing.
Girls playing hand games
This team not only accomplished a tremendous amount within a very short period of time but the most amazing aspect of their trip was that they stayed focused on Jesus and sought to glorify Him in any and everything they did while in Haiti.  Their fasting and prayers truly produced much fruit that will be evident for years to come.  Thank you all for a job well done.  God bless you all.  To view a video clip the team made for the kids, click here.
YouTube Contest Could Benefit Child Hope
A few enterprising members of the Bible Group Mission Team above, Aaron & Winston Tao, took along their video camera to record their Haiti trip and to make a short film for a contest being held on YouTube.com.  If enough people view the film and post a favorable comment, they could win and the kids of Maison de Lumiere will receive the cash prize.  If you want to help out, click on this link and post a favorable comment.  Thanks.
Feeding Program Update
Three days a week, 80 to 100 children come to the Maison de LumierFeedingProgramKidse Sports Center (next to the boys home) for a time of worship, games, Bible study and a hot meal.  The Child Hope Haiti Feeding Program, also known as the muTch  program (Meals and Uncompromised Truth for the Children of Haiti) is completely run and operated by the children of Maison de Lumiere.  It is their ministry to shine the light of Jesus to suffering and hungry children in the area.  The program  which provides nutritious meals three times a week,  also assists children who have medical needs.  Beginning as  a simple effort to feed a handful of children outside the gate of the Manassero's home, the program has grown into a full-fledged feeding program that helps our children learn how to serve and minister and impacts the community with the Gospel and Hope of Jesus Christ.  Please keep this program in your prayers and if you are interested in assisting financially, you may contribute at our web site at childhope.org.
Two Great Ways to Support Child Hope and Haiti
There are a couple of ways you might want to consider supporting the efforts of Child Hope in Haiti and they cost you nothing.  By doing your Internet searches through GoodSearch.com (basically a Yahoo search engine), with Child Hope as your designated charity, funds are sent to Child Hope for each search you do.  You can also use GoodSearch as a gateway to Target.com, Wal-Mart and hundreds of other online retailers that will credit Child Hope for each purchase you make.
Cars for Causes Logo
Another excellent resource is Cars for Causes who come and pick-up broken down cars, trucks, boats and RVs from your home and send a donation to Child Hope based on the value of the item

As these difficult financial times are impacting many people, we are no exception.  Significant reductions in child sponsorships has directly hit the children at Maison de Lumiere and we are praying for the Lord to fill the gap.  These other resources are a viable way to help offset those losses.  Thank you.
A Special Thank You to Bethany, Jamie, Mike & Tyson!
Next month's newsletter will spotlight our special summer school program that ran from June through August.  It was the most complete offering of classes and seminars we've ever had for the children at Maison de Lumiere.  Without the selfless dedication and hard work of Bethany Mills, Jamie Kruse, Mike Wilson and Tyson Bohlinger, our summer school program wouldn't have been possible.  Thank you all!

Stay tuned for details...
