Hurricane Dean Pounds Caribbean Marking the beginning of the 2007 hurricane season, Hurricane Dean came dangerously close to Haiti as it moved westward across the Atlantic.
Although most of Haiti was not severely impacted and in Port Au Prince we only experienced strong winds and rain, in the southern portion of Haiti, three people died and another four are missing as a result of
floods and strong winds triggered by Hurricane Dean. Growing to a category five, the natural
disaster inflicted considerable damages to agriculture, rapid water
flows destroyed several houses and damaged greatly some highways.
Please continue to pray for those who suffer here and those in Jamaica and Mexico as they attempt to recover and rebuild.

Mission Viejo Team Brings Great Joy and Blessings to the MDL Kids They came with a heart to serve and to love. Their big smiles and generous spirits made this group a very special team and a joy to be around.
Although "officially" sent by Mission Viejo Christian Church in California, the group had team members representing four other churches in Southern California. They came with gifts ranging from electrician, construction to fireball-twirler and karate instructor.
They also took on the seemingly impossible task of building two playgrounds -- one for the girls home and another for the boys home in less than 10 days. And their goal was achieved (minus a few little touch up items that will be completed with the next visiting team).
They also held a dynamic VBS program for the children entitled "Fishers of Men" -- complete with T-Shirts, awesome crafts, skits, great music and a program that would rival any church VBS program in the States.
As with many teams, they came to minister to the children, but in more cases than not, ended up saying that they were the ones being ministered to by the children. The group worship sessions, the one-on-one discussions and prayer times all were powerful events. Every moment was a special one that built strong relationships and encouraged all.
We are so grateful for the spirit of this team and their deep love for the children and our family. We pray God's blessing on them and their families as they selflessly gave of their time and energy (and a little piece of their hearts -- that remains in Haiti) for the glory of God.
Please keep them in your prayers as they readjust to life back home and as they reflect on the experience they shared in Haiti.

Education Fund Summer Miracle! We were getting ready to dash to the airport for our trip to the States and sent out a quick prayer request for a major concern on our hearts. We were concerned that the children at the orphanage would not have the funding to cover school when we returned. We also had a big burden on our hearts for the other needy children we also sent to school. The children at the orphanage were our top priority, so the other children in our neighborhood whom looked even less likely to be funded for school. We prayed.
When we arrived in Los Angeles, the people who met us at the airport had great news for us -- someone had stepped in to cover the educational expenses for the girls. A few more days into our trip, churches and people stepped forward with incredible gifts and support covering both the orphanage educational expenses for our 46 kids AND the neighborhood kids.
It was nothing less than a flat out miracle from God! His hand is upon these children and His blessing and power are awesome! Praise the Lord for He is King of all!

Summer Vocational Training Prepares Kids for the Future At the beginning of summer, six of our older boys were able to start full-time summer internships in the fields they want to pursue after graduation from the orphanage. Two took trainee positions as auto mechanics (Yves and Markenson), one as automotive electrician Israel) and three as carpenters (James, Jocelyn and Edison).
Working five days a week, eight hours a day, the boys worked side-by-side with professional tradesmen to learn the practical side of their trades. Getting up early, preparing their meals for the day and biking to work, gave them a taste of the real working world.
Fortunately, the response from both their bosses and the boys is very favorable. Some of the boys are even getting rave reviews from their bosses who say they work hard and are learning well.
It has been an excellent experience for all the boys and has helped them gain confidence in their abilities and prospects for the future. All of the boys will continue their internships part-time once school begins in September.

Congratulations Rod & Brit! We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Rod Meadt and Brittany Bohlinger on their recent engagement.
Rod first came to Maison de Lumiere while serving in Haiti with Mission Aviation Fellowship. He was an engineer, recently graduated from school in Australia. Having a heart for the orphan, he would come to MDL at the end of his work day to serve the kids.
Brittany's familiy are close friends of the Manasseros and she came to us first on a short term missions visit (3 months) in response to a call she felt from God. After her visit, she felt confirmation from God to serve for a longer period of time and came back to serve a 2-year term as director/teacher of the MDL Preschool.
They both met while serving the children at Maison de Lumiere. Their hearts are both directed, first, at serving God, and then at the children of Haiti. Little did we know that their hearts would one day join as one as they both plan to get married on February 9th in the U.S.
After their marriage, they will return to Haiti to continue their missionary service. Rod is now a teacher at Quisqueya Christian School and part of the worship team at Port Au Prince Fellowship. He will also be helping the Manasseros with homeschooling. Brittany will continue as Maison de Lumiere's Preschool director/teacher.
Please join us in lifting Rod and Brittany up for God's blessing on their marriage and in their new life together.

Child Sponsorship Updates This summer, we were also blessed with a few new child sponsors and individuals who increased their sponsorships.
We
are more determined than ever to pursue 100% sponsorship for each of
our children. The way that works is that $150 is required to fully
sponsor a child. But because of the high amount, we created $20
minimum sponsorships to allow a child to have at least partial
sponsors. Sometimes we have 5 sponsors at $20 each or differing
amounts (a sponsor may choose to sponsor a child for $30 or $50).
Below is the current status of sponsored children.

Personal Message
We just want to say a very special thank you to all of you, who, through your prayers, encouragement and support have helped us be vessels for Christ to help the fatherless here in Haiti.
We feel so very blessed to be here and to have such incredible friends and caring family members.
THANK YOU!
When words are inadequate, we simply lift it up to Him -- Creator of All Things -- to give Him all thanks, glory and praise -- And to thank Him for giving us ring-side seats to view the incredible miracles He is performing here in this beautiful island nation of Haiti.
God bless you,
bill & susette manassero
