Welcome Autumn! Today marked 2012's Autumnal Equinox and the pagan celebration of Mabon. At Autumn Equinox, day and night are held in equal balance, with the darkness ascending. Yet here in Seaside we basked in the sunshine. It is Harley weekend along with a BBQ festival so the island is packed with bikers & foodies. You cannot find a sign of autumn other than the lengthening night. Tonight the beach is deserted and rain is heavy in the salty air. Yet there is a quickening in the sea and in my soul. I can feel the anticipation in the very air. I always feel a little sad at Mabon, knowing that the dark winter is fast approaching. I guess I'm a summer chick at heart, ceaselessly yearning for the heat of the sun and long, light-filled days!Whether you celebrate Mabon, or just dig autumn, Happy Equinox. For me, this is my time to truly listen with my mind, body & soul & to thank the Goddess for getting me through these last harrowing few months. I cannot really speak about what actually happened as others are involved, but needless to say I felt I was living an episode of Paranormal Witness! Many say that September always feels like time for a fresh start, & I guess I've caught that vibe too. As I slowly edge back from these last months, I'm feeling the need to begin making some changes in my life. By next September I hope to be in a better place than I am right now. It is the time for the wise crone, Hecate. I plan to sit with her, look into the darkness and learn from her wisdom. But for now as our summer slowly comes to an end, I open my arms to welcome the Goddess of the Harvest. |
