December is one of my favorite times of year-a month crammed with festivals. And the next is Winter Solstice/Yule- December 21st, the longest night of the year celebrated with burning candles & the Yule log.
December 22nd brings us to the eight days of Chanukah. Followed by Christmas on December 25th. These festivals all have something in common: lots of food, gatherings of family and friends, gift exchanges, ceremonies & music.
Yule is almost upon us and I am reminded once again of the intentions of the season: love, peace, kindness, charity & harmony. The ancients celebrated winter solstice in their own special ways, and through the years (really centuries) customs and rituals have changed. But as we end a year in a world that has seen so much unrest, this is the perfect time to embrace the intentions of love, joy & peace in our hearts and mind. The need has never been greater.
For me, the holidays are a melange of aromas. Each one sending me to another place & time. Burning frankincense & myrrh resins with their heady smoke evokes the sacredness of the holiday, while orange, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg bring me warmth. However the conifers, my favorite firs & spruces, are the ones that really transport me. Each one is like a forest on a crisp cold morning. Luckily I made a huge batch of Winter Solstice blend this year, plenty for all of us.

No matter how you say it:
"A most Blessed Yule, Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Mele Kalikimaka, Nollaig Shona, Buon Natale & Feliz Navidad to all of you"
