 Blessed Samhain

Double, double, toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble...Eye of newt, & toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,Lizard's leg, & howlet's wing
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
~William Shakespeare, "Macbeth"

Happy Halloween
Also known as Samhain (pronounced sow-en), or All Hallow's Eve, this day marks the Pagan New Year, though some traditions prefer November 1st. Samhain is the holiday honoring death & is directly opposite Beltane on the Wheel of the Year which honors life.  On Halloween night, the most magical night of the year, the ghosts of our ancestors and loved ones surround us. This is the time to turn inward and reflect on those who have crossed to the other side of the veil.
We suffered a loss this week when a family member crossed over after a long & painful illness. My mother & I ended up spending the last 3 days in Brooklyn, NY, honoring her life with all the ritual which surrounds a Catholic burial. The lit censors filled with frankincense resin transported me to a different place & started me thinking about how to remember her for who she was.

Amongst all the traditional symbols of this season there is one that holds the most importance to me. It is the cauldron which represents the womb of the Goddess. With this in mind, I honor Cerridwen, Godess of death, rebirth, transformation, wisdom & inspiration. Cerridwen is usually shown stirring her caldron, gazing into its' magical waters....putting to bed the old year, ushering in a new.It is now time to think, & stir; contemplate the coming winter and let go of whatever has not worked for you this year, while looking forward to all the closure, hope & magick a new year brings.

As the Wheel turns, have a blessed Samhain and  a magickal full moon this Monday

Vegan Pumpkin Treats
Ingredients:
Filling -
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup. flaked coconut, lightly packed
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
walnuts or pecans, finely chopped
Directions:
Mix the first five ingredients well in a large saucepan. Cook over medium high, stirring constantly for 15-20 minutes. It is done when it is very thick and leaves side of pan, forming a ball in the center as you stir. Turn onto a greased baking sheet. Cover loosely with foil or plastic wrap. Let cool completely. Lightly grease your hands and shape candy into balls. Roll the balls in nuts. Cover, store in refrigerator.
This recipe makes about 2 1/2 dozen

Anti-Viral Oils & The Flu

Powerful antiviral, antibacterial, anti-infectious, they strengthen the immune system.  The H1N1 virus is  most affected by the Myrtaceae and Lauraceae families of trees, with Ravensara being the most outstanding antiviral, & working best together with Eucalyptus radiata.  Diffuse or apply on skin (in carrier, of course) for respiratory relief & protection
