Between the bursting blossoms & heady scents, my little corner of the earth is ripe with life. And for this scent whore a treasure trove of riches!!! Floral scents mingle lusciously in the steamy air. Whether you have a garden, a few pots on a terrace or simply a windowsill display, make sure you take the time to enjoy the magick of the season.
I love the sea at this time of year. Last night, seaweed covered the sand like a soft blanket while the waves (a bit rough) crashed on our shoreline. The magic & power of the water is so easily felt. Right now, bask in the warmth of summer & take time for yourself. Take a moonlit walk by the sea & gather some seashells for your altar. Tuesday, July 7th brings us the full moon in Capricorn & a lunar eclipse. Just as the full moon affects the power of ritual, the eclipse gives it an extra oomph. This moon is known by a few names: rose moon, oak moon, mead moon, blessing moon ...but my favorite of all is "the herb moon". Known to kitchen witches & herbalists as a time when many herbs are ready to be harvested, hence the name. So, my pretties, harvest those herbs & create a ritual for magick & healing on the esbat with herbs as your central theme. And at the witching hour, look above & absorb the power of the moon. Last but not least, over the next few months, Blue Moon will be promoting a special contest in honor of the one Full Blue Moon this year, December 31, 2009. Watch for information beginning in September.
May you have a blessed harvest this season. |

Summertime... a great time to keep the presence of the water Goddesses in your life-add river rocks & shells to your garden & altar. And wear that silver. From a past newsletter- "Silver represents the sea, the great mother as well as the moon. Shaman belief-the 3rd finger of the left hand is our conduit for spirit power so wearing silver on this finger enhances your psychic ability" |
Water....The Ritual Bath A favorite of healers & Wise Women everywhere-soaking in warm waters infused with sea salts, essential oils, flowers & herbs. This is a true gift you can give yourself. A ritual bath relies on symbolism to embrace the four elements that support us: Earth, Air, Fire & Water. Earth keeps us grounded; Air moves us & aids communication; Fire is our passion-transforming us; & water heals & shapes us. So how do you get all these elements in 1 bath? Water is represented by, you guessed it-the bath itself. Fire by candles (put in safe spot please). Earth can be the crystals that are in each of our brews or the actual salt itself (a no brainer, huh?) & lastly Air can simply be some great incense or essential oils diffusing the air from the bath.
Now for protection. It is time to cast your circle. Face the north & thank the goddess( Earth), look to the east & thank the goddess(Air), face the south & thank the goddess(Fire) & lastly look to the west & thank the goddess(water). Fill your bath following the directions on your favorite Blue Moon Bath, place the crystal in the bath or on the side. Light the candles & incense, if used.
Once in the bath... lie back & inhale the aromas of the beautiful herbs & oils, meditate or visualize on what you want the bath to bring into your life. It is that simple. After bath close down your circle by thanking the goddesses in reverse order (start with the west). |
