Opening reception with artists - January 18, 2008 at 5 pm. SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - 01.17.08 - Micala Gallery announces the opening of "Compass!" a group exhibition referencing new directions in artwork by emerging artists at Micala Gallery. Featured
artists include recent MFA graduates from the San Francisco Art
Institute offering a collection of work that reference landscape and
the effect of place. "Compass!" is a body of classically rendered
drawings, photographs, and paintings, and modern glass, mixed media and
video sculpture. Additionally, the sculptural work of David Ruth, an established and respected San Francisco Bay Area artist, is
included for his recent travel and specific reference to the Antarctic
landscape. Geraldine Lozano's installation will
be presented in Micaela Gallery 2. Lozano is a newly minted MFA
graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute whose work is based in the
mediums of photography, video and installation. Lozano's work
addresses issues of displacement and personal documentary. Because
Lozano left her birthplace in Peru early in her adolescence, her work
focuses on the temporality and fragility of place. |
