Wyoming Saddle Pals Package
With gas prices rising and travel becoming more and more expensive, why not take a vacation close to home?  There are many great things to do in your own backyard!  The Vee Bar is offering a deal that has never been offered before, and it's designed to make traveling in our great state even more affordable.  Not only do Wyoming residents get a deal, so do their guests!   Now until May 15, 2011 Wyoming residents can book a three or six-night summer guest ranch vacation and receive a nice discount.  If a Wyoming family chooses to bring an out-of-state family with them to the Vee Bar, the out-of-state family also receives a discount.  The package includes three delicious, hearty home-cooked meals per day, horseback riding, your own horse for the week, riding lessons, guided hiking, fishing (guided with prearrangement), river tubing, trap-shooting, wagon rides, cattle work, campouts, evening entertainment, and so much more!  It really is a vacation for the entire family, riders and non-riders alike.  Since you pay one price for the package, you already receive a deal compared to purchasing lodging, meals, and activities separately.  Everything is conveniently located at the Vee Bar and there is no need to drive anywhere once you are at the ranch.  Guests at the Vee Bar are treated like family, and will certainly make friends with the Kilmer and Cole Families, who are owners and managers of the Vee Bar.  Guests who have been to the Vee Bar say that their Vee Bar vacation was the best vacation they have ever taken.  There is not another vacation as wholesome and fun as a vacation at a guest ranch.  For pricing details, go to our specials page on our website.

A Few Notes and a Special Thank You...

When you watch the news it is easy to get depressed at the thought of where the world is headed these days.  You hear of shootings, traffic accidents, political rivals, countries at war, abandoned children, and the list goes on and on.  Older generations often start topics of conversation with "kids theses days..."  Some parents struggle to teach their kids values in a world where they are constantly surrounded with adult sights and sounds.  When guests come to stay at the Vee Bar, we often get asked if we get tired of dealing with people.  Or, we get asked how often we have to deal with some real jerks.  Our answer:  VERY rarely!  Maybe it's the atmosphere of the Vee Bar that really brings out the best in people.  Maybe it's the natural surroundings and the trusting nature people in the area have.  We like to operate on the honor system and if we could, we'd probably ask for a simple handshake to seal a deal.  The rest of the world is not used to operating on that system anymore, and maybe that's why it comes as such a shock to people when we literally operate in so many ways on the honor system.  We see a totally different side of people when they are at the Vee Bar.  Those that come here for the first time often find themselves slipping into a much more relaxed state after only a few hours on the ranch.

Words can not express the friendships that guests, the Cole/Kilmer Family and the Vee Bar Staff establish.  Proof of that has been the number of guests who have reached out to Brent and I since Bailey has blessed our family.  The number of cards, gifts, e-mails, and phone calls we have received has been amazing!  We are constantly awed by the generous hearts that have visited the Vee Bar and the number of people who think of us as friends.  Brent and I would like to thank you all so much for your phone calls, e-mails, gifts, and prayers.  They have meant so much to us.

And for those who think "kids these days" have a lot to learn, they just need to come to the Vee Bar and see what a generous place this world really is, and what nice kids there are out there!

Howdy from the Vee Bar Family!

Happy Spring to all of you and your families!  Although the grass is barely green here, we sense spring is on the way.  The Bluebirds and Robins are back and the daytime temperatures have crept into the 50's recently!  We are starting to bring the horse herd in on a more regular basis to get ridden and to get shoes on them!  We are anxiously awaiting our summer guest ranch season!

Sincerely,

The Vee Bar Family

News From the Barn
New Additions
mini donkeysIn January Brent and I went to Arizona for the Dude Rancher's Association Convention.  On our way home we were using my new Droid to look for kids horses in the area.  In the process we found two mini paint donkeys!  Brent has wanted a pair since he saw the mini donkeys at the Deerwood Ranch.  They are three-years old.  The lady who we bought them from purchased them shortly after they were weaned to be companion animals to an older rope horse she had.  She didn't handle them too much and she was really the only person that was around them.  They became very comfortable around her, but it takes a little while to get to know strangers.  They have come a long way, and the guests who have been here this spring, the staff, and Brent have all contributed to their gentling.  Oh, and their names:  Kit and Kaboodle.

All in the Family
The Cole Family purchased the Vee Bar in 1994.  Grandpa "Lefty" was the day-to-day manager and operator until about 5 years ago when Kari (Lefty's granddaughter) and Brent Kilmer took over management of the ranch.  Family involvement still plays an important role in making the Vee Bar what it is today.  Kari's parents are active hosts, especially during the summer season.  Kari's brother C.J. was a vital member of the team this winter when Kari had her first baby, Bailey.  Bailey was born in December, just in time for "Christmas-Party Season" at the Vee Bar.  C.J. was the bartender a few nights of the week so that Brent could be at home more with his new family.  Tucker, the youngest in Kari's family just turned 17 this spring.  He will be wrangling full-time this summer.  We all look forward to having you here!

Kilmer Family Happenings
We couldn't be better!  In late October we moved into a new, bigger house on the Vee Bar property.  For those of you familiar with the property it was formerly known as the Meadow House.  On December 7 Bailey Lou Kilmer was born at the hospital in Laramie.  She was born with PKU, a metabolic disorder that Kari also has, which led to some trips to Denver Children's Hospital when Bailey was just over one week old.  In mid-January we loaded up and drove to Tuscon, AZ for the annual Dude Rancher's Association Convention at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch.  After the business was over, we traveled across Tuscon to the White Stallion Ranch where we spent a week for vacation!  We met up with some guests who also come to the Vee Bar in the summer and had a wonderful time!  Bailey got her first taste of fresh air and sunshine that week!  Upon returning home, we had record-cold temperatures that dipped down to -50 degrees at night.  What a change!  In March Brent traveled to the Heart Six Ranch near Jackson, WY for the Wyoming Dude Rancher's Association meeting.  He was elected President and Kari was elected Treasurer.  In the meantime, the Vee Bar has been operating in full-swing.  Spring break travelers came to us in record numbers this year.  In fact, we saw over 500 people come through our doors for dinners and B&B between February 15 and the end of March.  Fortunately, we have a wonderful staff right now and we couldn't do it without them!

Bailey
Bailey is doing great!  She seems like such a mellow baby, but maybe that's because she was practically born on wheels.  We take her everywhere and she's growing quite accustomed to traveling.  She comes to the office to "work" with mom one or two days per week, stays with dad, or goes to Grandma Lisa's house one day per week.  The other days she is running errands or "helping" mom.  She is learning how to laugh.  Her mom and dad have nothing compared to the dogs when it comes to making her giggle.  Play the video below!  It was taken a few days ago at our house--enjoy!
