Not sure what to give that special someone this holiday season? It’s easy! Give Smart Risk

Guaranteed to be the one gift you won’t have to return!

Look First...

  • When buying toys for your child, follow the manufacturer’s age recommendations.
  • Watch out for toys with small parts that could be removed and become a choking hazard for your child.
  • Monitor battery-operated toys as batteries can leak and burn your child’s skin or they can be swallowed.
  • Ensure your child’s toy box is safe. It should have ventilation holes and the lid should be light and well supported.
  • Keep small or hard candies, nuts, and toothpicks out of young children’s reach.
  • Keep latex balloons away from your child.

Get Trained

  • Plants such as Mistletoe, English Holly, and English Ivy are poisonous. Keep these and other plants out of your child’s reach.

Buckle Up …

  • If you are traveling in a vehicle with your child make sure they are always correctly buckled up.

Is your child safe in that shopping cart?

Did you know...shopping cart-related injuries are common and can result in severe injury or even death? The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that parents consider alternatives to placing children in shopping carts, until carts are redesigned to prevent injury?

How do these injuries occur?

  • The child falls from a shopping cart.
  • The cart tips over.
  • The child becomes entrapped in the cart.
  • The child falls while riding on the outside of the cart.

What can you do?

  • Never leave your child alone in a shopping cart.
  • Do not allow your child to stand-up in a shopping cart.
  • Do not place an infant carrier on top of the shopping cart.
  • Do not allow your child to ride in the basket.
  • Never allow your child to ride on the outside of a cart.
  • Place your child in a safety belt or harness at all times when in a shopping cart.
  • Do not allow an older child to climb on the cart or push the cart with another child inside.

INJURIES ARE NOT ACCIDENTS… THEY ARE PREDICTABLE AND PREVENTABLE!

Proper supervision, safe environments, hazard awareness, and participating in age-appropriate activities all help reduce the risk of injuries to children during the holiday season.
