The Pied Piper of Manufacturing
IndustryWeek interviews Harry Moser
Harry Mosher, an IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame inductee, sat down with IndustryWeek to discuss his post-retirement passion and initiative: reshoring. He makes the case that if U.S. manufacturers take into consideration the "total cost of ownership" for products made in other countries but destined to be sold in America -- transportation costs, reject rates, foreign wage inflation, potential intellectual-property theft and other factors -- the United States compares favorably with so-called low-cost countries. Moser developed a software tool-- TCO Estimator V.S. -- that compares the costs of manufacturing parts and tools in 17 countries and can predict manufacturing costs five years into future.

Innovative Manufacturing Grant Available
from DOE Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
The Department of Energy is accepting applications for funding of research and development of transformational manufacturing processes and materials technologies to advance the clean energy economy by increasing industrial and manufacturing energy efficiency, deliver breakthroughs to reduce energy and carbon intensity throughout the economy, revitalize existing manufacturing industries, and support new product development in emerging industries.
There is no minimum award, but the maximum can be $1,000,000 to $9,000,000 depending on the project type, requiring a 20% cost share.
The Funding Opportunity covers two topic areas:
- Innovative Manufacturing Processes --Technologies that provide pathways to double the net energy productivity of U.S. manufacturing and enable related carbon reductions
- Innovative Materials -- New materials and associated production technologies can reduce costs, reduce energy use, reduce pollution, improve product quality, and enhance productivity for American manufacturing
Grant is available to a variety of entities, including private companies, not-for-profits, goverment, and more.
The Letter Of Intent is due September 1st and the application is due October 25th. Please view the full opportunity by clicking here.
If you need help in meeting the registration requirements on p 4, in writing the grant, or in finding partners to apply as a consortia, the CAMT Government Programs and Grants Office can help you on a subsidized fee basis. Please contact Elizabeth Weiland if you require support for this grant. |
