Dawn Foods Success Story | | |
CAMT helps Dawn Foods become best performing plant
"The Denver site has been recognized as the most improved and best performing plant out of 8 facilities. This is an honor shared with our partners at CAMT." - Ken Stanford, General Manager
Dawn Food Products Denver is a manufacturer and distributor of bakery products. The fourth largest out of eight facilities, the Denver facility employs nearly 150 individuals with $112,000,000 in annual sales.
In 2008, the Denver Dawn facility production levels increased due to general business growth and the addition of a new canned product, making Lean continuous improvement programs essential to facility success. CAMT helped Dawn identify and apply for multiple grants to contribute to training and implementation costs, and then built and implemented a comprehensive continuous improvement plan to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
Results:
- $1,000,000 in Increased Sales
- $3,500,000 in Retained Sales
- $905,000 in Cost Savings
- 17 Jobs Created
- 10 Jobs Retained

Proposed NIST programs in the Administration's FY12 Budget
By themselves, the nation's manufacturers would rank among the world's 10 largest economies, thanks, in large part, to the sector's nearly 12 million employees, one of the most productive manufacturing workforces ever. But U.S. industry faces relentless competition that has trimmed the nation's share of global manufacturing output from 25% in 2000, to about 20% today.
President Obama's FY12 budget recommendation addresses this problem by proposing funding of strategic NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) programs designed to encourage competitive manufacturing and construction in a Clean Energy Economy.
In addition to expanding the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program, of which CAMT is the Colorado affiliate, the budget recommends a number of new programs to further robotic and nano-manufacturing technologies, develop and implement green manufacturing practices and techniques, and encourage "quick turn-around, small-batch production of complex, customized products."

| Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010 | | |
Your manufacturing equipment could be tax-deductible!
Now may be the time for your company to purchase or lease new equipment and take advantage of the expense deduction or depreciation provisions of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010.
Here's how your company could benefit:
- Bonus depreciation-- The Act contains a provision for accelerated ("bonus") depreciation of an additional 50% of the cost of qualified business assets purchased and put into use in 2010.
- Expense deduction-- If your company buys certain categories of equipment in 2010 or 2011, you may be able to deduct the full cost, up to $500k, as an expense on your taxes.
