Young Masters A Documentary featuring Team Canada and WorldSkills Calgary 2009
Young Masters, a 42-minute
documentary by award-winning filmmaker Punam Kumar Gill, follows the intense
journey of three Canadian skill champions, who with Olympic-sized passion, train
and compete in the 40th WorldSkills
Competition.
In a society that values university over college, white collar over blue, can these
characters prove to be masters of their own futures? Gill with Directory of Photography, Noel Begin
 |
Four years in the making,
the film was originally conceived when Calgary won the bid to host the
40th WorldSkills Competition. Gill was then employed as Advisor to
the President for the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 organization, but quit to pursue
her dreams in film. Trading in her business suit and her knowledge-based career,
she followed the path laid out by WorldSkills, gaining skilled employment in a
craft, and mastering her own future. Visit www.punamarts.com for film festival
listing & DVD orders.

Plan for a Spot on Team Alberta at the Canadian Skills Competition The 2010 Team Alberta will be selected at the Provincial Skills Canada Competition (PSCC) on May 12-13, 2010. Six days later students, teachers, chaperones and SCA staff will travel via Westjet to Waterloo, Ontario for the Canadian Skills Competition (CSC).
During the PSCC Awards Ceremony on May 13 all students who earn a medal will be escorted backstage after we photograph their on-stage moments of success. Gold medalists will be given their Team Alberta information package and will confirm their participation in the CSC. Students must be present at the Awards Ceremony to claim their position on Team Alberta.
Team Alberta Members will gather in Salon 1, following the Awards Ceremony for a brief meeting at the Shell Team Alberta Reception.
If the Gold Medalist is not able to attend CSC, the next top ranking individual will be asked to participate.
SCA has booked hotels and flights for all members of Team Alberta. The cost for a high school or post-secondary student to attend the CSC is approximately $800 and for a teacher/chaperone it is $1,250. Th is cost includes flights, ground transportation, hotels, accreditation fees, a Team Alberta shirt and some meals. Although SCA has heavily subsidized the cost to participate, we recognize the cost is significant and hope that by providing this advanced notice all eligible students will not miss an opportunity to be involved in this important event.Quick Links:
