Skills Champion Ken Heather, Welding Instructor and 12 year veteran to Skills Canada Competitions

College instructor Ken
Heather was asked to volunteer for the 1997 Provincial and Canadian Skills
Competitions he would have never imagined that Skills Canada Alberta would take him on such a the long term and international
journey. Now twelve years later and countless hours of
volunteering under his belt, Ken has a key role organizing the Welding Competition
at WorldSkills Calgary 2009.
"Ken Heather has three characteristics that make him a champion
of the Skills Movement; integrity, commitment and enthusiasm," said Chris Browton, Executive Director, Skills Canada
Alberta. "He is involved in all levels of Skills Canada; from regionals to
provincials and nationals to WorldSkills, and in the process has impacted
thousands of students and Skills Canada Alberta Alumni."

Alberta's Best Rise to the Challenge!
Skills Canada Alberta's largest Team Alberta ever competed at the Canadian Skills Competition in Charlottetown, PEI.
Competing against Canada's best young students in construction, technology, employment, transportation and services sectors, Alberta received 28 medals.
Alberta's post-secondary students brought home Gold in CNC Machining, Automation and Control, and Aesthetics. High school students won Gold in Automotive Service, Carpentry, and TV/Video Production. Team Alberta receive a total of 7 Gold, 11 Silver and 10 Bronze.
"Having students earn a position on Team Alberta from northern, central and southern Alberta shows the high level of skill development happening across the province," said Chris Browton, Executive Director, Skills Canada Alberta. "We are truly impressed by the enthusiasm and skill level demonstrated by the 600 students that competed at the Provincial Skills Competition and the 57 members that became part of Team Alberta."
