Legacy Equipment Program

The Government of Alberta is a strong supporter of the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Competition. 

Part of this support includes a grant to WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Ltd. to purchase equipment.  As part of the legacy of WorldSkills Calgary 2009, the equipment will be distributed to eligible post-secondary institutions and K-12 school jurisdictions at the end of the competition.

17th Annual Provincial Skills Competition!

This is the week of the Provincial Skills Competition!

The Provincial Skills Competition brings together over 600 high school and post-secondary students from across the province, to compete in 40 trade and technology competitions from a variety of industry sectors.

Career-seekers will see a diverse cross section of options, from culinary arts to web design, and computer animation to auto service.  The Career Path Showcase will take place in tandem with the Skills Competition, and will feature 60 different trade and technology-based businesses, associations and educational institutions. This career fair includes over 30 hands-on demonstrations, including interactive Try-A-Trades®, which provide spectators an opportunity to try their hand at a skill while connecting with industry experts, employers, labour groups and technical institutes.  Admission and parking are free.

Canadian Skills Competition
Gold medalists from Alberta's Provincial Skills Competition, along with the best trade and technology talent from every province and territory, will compete at the Canadian Skills Competition, hosted by Skills/Compétences Canada, which takes place May 20-23, 2009 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Team Alberta, selected at the Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2009 will travel to PEI the following week for the experience of a lifetime.

SCA Brings Try-A-Trade® to the World

Skills Canada Alberta is proud to be bringing the popular Try-A-Trade® and Try-A-Skill™ to the 40th WorldSkills Competition.  
 
If you would like to be a part of WorldSkills Calgary 2009, and work with Skills Canada Alberta staff and Try-A-Trade® Volunteer Leads visit our WorldSkills Try-A-Skill™ webpage.

General Duties:
Help create a unique, interactive, and challenging Try-A-Skill™ demonstration that will captivate the touring public.

Attend the event to assist and supervise the general public who are participating in the Try-A-Skill™ demonstrations. Volunteers may also be needed to provide demonstrations to the general public.

Time Commitment:
Onsite for some or all of WorldSkills Calgary 2009 from August 30 to September 6, 2009.

Expenses:
For out of town participants, accommodation (double occupancy) and meals in Calgary during WSC 2009 will be covered. Volunteers will also receive attire and accreditation to WSC 09.
