Provincial Gold Medalist Cooks with Celebrity Chef David Adjey
With just six months to the 40th WorldSkills Competition, Food Network's Celebrity Chef David Adjey, Team Canada Cooking Competitor Sébastien Laframboise, and Alberta's own Provincial Gold Medalist Jordan
Clay put on a cooking demonstration with amazing flare and talent on March 10 at Divino's Wine and Cheese Bistro, Calgary. See highlights from the Culinary Experience.
Jordan won Gold at the 2008 Provincial Skills Competition and earned a spot on Team Alberta. He then won a Silver medal at the 2008 Canadian Skills Competition, demonstrating that this small town culinary talent can definitely hold his own with the best in the country. Now he is preparing for the 2009 Provincial Skills Competition in Edmonton.
Jordan took an early interest in cooking and started working in his first professional kitchen at the young age of 14. The Red Deer Golf and Country Club was his first introduction to the culinary world. After working three consecutive seasons at the Club, Jordan is an apprentice and enrolled in the Culinary program at SAIT Polytechnic. While attending Jordan began working at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary, Alberta where he continues to work under the expertise of Chef Greg vanPoppell.
"I'm thrilled to be part of the largest international event in Calgary since
the '88 Olympics! I believe it's important for every chef to make better chefs;
and as a skilled professional, promoting careers in skills, trades and
technologies is an absolute honour," says David Adjey. "Encouraging students to
find their career passion makes my work even more gratifying. The WorldSkills
Competition this September is Canada's BEST opportunity to witness excellence in
skills, trades and technologies."
The WorldSkills Competition to be held in Calgary on September 1-7, 2009 will be the
city's largest international competitive event since the 1988 Olympic Winter
Games.
The organising committee, WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Ltd., is leading
event coordination with support from WorldSkills International,
Skills/Compétences Canada, and Skills Canada Alberta. Along with numerous
sponsors and suppliers, the major event funding partners include: Government
of Canada, Government of Alberta and The City of Calgary.
