Skilled Trades Week In Canada

In recognition of Skilled Trades Week in Canada,Leg Skills Canada offices across the nation will be hosting special events.

Skills Canada Alberta  hosted the Northern Alberta Cardboard Boat Race on November 3 at NAIT. Click here for full results.

On Tuesday, November 4 the Team Canada members from Alberta that will compete in WorldSkills Calgary 2009 were invited to the Alberta Legislature.

Minister of Education Dave Hancock, Minister of Employment and Immigration Hector Goudreau, and Parliamentary Assistant, Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology Manmeet Bhullar, invited the Team their employers, trainers and Skills Canada representatives to a special introduction of the Team in the Legislature.

Congratulations to our seven team members and their supporters on this special recognition.

Skills/Compétences Canada has officially announced that Brad Chyz of Calgary will represent Canada at WorldSkills Calgary 2009!

Brad is a Sheet Metal apprentice at Paragon Ventilation and will be attending SAIT this winter. 


 
 
Robotics Competition for High School Students
Additional Competition in 2009!

High School students are invited to participate in the Robotics Competition, to be hosted at the 2009 Provincial Skills Competition.

To assist teachers prepare their students for the competition, Skills Canada Alberta is hosting an Orientation Session on November 19.  Please contact Grayham Symko, Program Assistant for additional information at grayhams@skillscanada.com or phone 780.493.2704.

This 50 year old bi-annual competition brings together hundreds of international competitors from trades, technology, and personal services to showcase their talents in 45 skill categories.WSC 09
 

WSC 09 is looking to harness the experience of Skills Canada Alberta's volunteers in important roles including
Try-A-Trade® Demonstrations, Event Technical Support, Competition Area Set Up, Operation, and Tear Down.

Canada Career Week 

Join Skills Canada Alberta at Edmonton's Canada Career Week Fair to Try-A-Welding Trade®.

On November 14-15, 2008 at Northlands Agricom in Edmonton, SCA will join forces with NAIT and House of Tools to offer hands-on interactive demonstrations at the annual Career Fair. 
 
Post-Secondary Competitors at the Provincial Skills Competition
Apply before December 19

Post-secondary students in the trades and technologies are encouraged to apply to compete at the 2009 Provincial Skills Competition. 

Apprentices and technology students that were born on or after Jan 1, 1988 can apply to participate in the upcoming competition.  They will be contacted by April 1, 2009 to confirm that they have been selected to compete.

Teachers, instructors and parents are strongly encouraged to share the opportunity with eligible students.
