Spotlight: "New Breast Cancer Guidelines Issued By Government Task Force"
|
|
B4BC Speaks Out Against These Guidelines
Last week the government's U.S. Preventive
Services Task Force announced new guidelines for breast
cancer screenings that recommended women wait
until age 50 to get mammograms and then have
one every two years after. Additionally, the
task force listed breast self-exams as
holding no value in the early detection of
breast cancer.
As you can imagine, this baffling information
has sparked an emotional nationwide
controversy and our B4BC stance on the issue
is that we couldn't disagree more with these
recommendations. Our roots are derived from
a young woman losing her battle with breast
cancer due to being dismissed by doctors as
"too young" for this disease.

B4BC To Give Breast Cancer Survivors ReTreat Yourself Weekend
|
|
Survivor Scholarship Program
B4BC is proud to announce that with the help
of our partners, Skullcandy and The North Face,
we're able to give (6) Colorado breast cancer
survivors a free weekend of participation at
ReTreat Yourself 2010, January 6th-9th, in
Beaver Creek, CO.
ReTreat Yourself hosted by pro-snowboarders
Megan Pischke, Barrett Christy, and pro-skier
Kasha Rigby will provide a rejuvenating
women's weekend full of riding, yoga, and
life coach sessions to encourage personal
power!
The ReTreat is open to all women, but to give
back to our survivor community we wanted to
give some deserving ladies an opportunity to
enjoy the weekend on us. So, if you're a
survivor and interested in the opportunity
for a scholarship to attend, we're currently
accepting applications now until December 6th.

B4BC Skate the Coast Brings a Crowd of Passionate Skaters
|
|
19-mile push from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach, CA
Last month we hosted our 3rd Annual Skate the
Coast a skateboarding marathon that hugs the
California coast line beginning at the Santa
Monica pier and finishing at the Redondo
Beach pier (19-miles).
This was our biggest Skate the Coast yet with
over 100 skaters, roller skaters /bladers,
and even a few on bike cruisers showing up to
push for the cause.
Perhaps one of the coolest things about this
event is the fact that it attracts people
young and old, of all athletic abilities,
from both genders and there's a real sense of
camaraderie amongst the participants. The
skate is not a race, it's a collective of
passionate individuals who may or may not
have been affected by breast cancer, but push
together to raise awareness through something
we all love, skateboarding!

Outdoor DIVAS Hosts "Divas In Drag" B4BC Fundraiser
|
|
"The guys are girly, but the cause is worthy"
"Though the guys may be girly, the cause is
worthy"-this has been the theme for Outdoor
Divas (Boulder, CO) annual Divas in Drag show
benefiting B4BC.
On October 28th and in honor of breast cancer
awareness month, Outdoor Divas hosted their
4th annual drag show for the cause using male
local shredders, industry reps, lifties, and
ski/snowboard instructors as their "Divas"
for a fun and unique way to raise breast
cancer awareness!
The "Divas" took their strut to the catwalk
wearing the latest female snowboarding/skiing
clothes and despite the freak snowstorm that
blanketed Boulder that day the house was
packed!
In addition to the drag show attendees
enjoyed the pink carpet entrance and "Save
the Melons" photo shoot hosted by Burton
Snowboards.

you don't want to miss these)

Have a Stress Free Thanksgiving!
|
|
Health Tip of the Month
Thanksgiving is all about family, friends,
and appreciating what you have - so why does
it seem to stress us out more than bring us
together? Hosting dinner doesn't have to be
as horrible as it sometimes becomes. In fact,
all that stress can ruin not just your mood
but also your health.
According to the principles of yoga, you are
your
healthiest when you create wellness in your
entire
being - meaning in your mind, body, and spirit.
So this year, stay calm and healthy
throughout the
holiday by following a few simple tips.
