Spring Training Starts & Spring is Around the Corner

March 2009

|
Where does the time go? It seems the faster I go, the behinder I get! Here it is March already and spring training has started and I still haven't got to a game yet! Hopefully we will get in a game or two this year. Baseball is all the rage here in Arizona and of course so is golf. Tiger is back and that makes golfers happy. Something else is back as well. We welcome the return of the KlipIt, our fabulously favorite bottle holder. You can read more below on that welcome development.
WalMart Blues! It has been reported that many WalMarts are turning away RVers from their parking lots. Apparently so many people have been losing their homes, they have moved onto the WalMart parking lot and weren't leaving. Don't be surprised if you get turned away from WalMart the next time you go to park at one of them.
We are moving! After six years in Surprise, AZ we are moving the warehouse to Peoria, AZ in the middle of March. Our phone numbers will remain the same. We will still be a warehouse facility and will not have a storefront where you can come and buy product. Just use the website, it's easier to use than ever. WHY you may ask? Well this month we are changing over to a new shopping cart to try and make your life (and ours) a little easier and less frustrating. It won't be perfect but it will be an improvement. When you go shopping now, you hopefully will find the cart easier to work with. One of the features we really like is you can calculate and choose your method of shipping before you go to checkout. When you go to checkout a window will appear asking if you are registered or a new user. Just click on registered and enter your email address and last name. Hopefully you will like the changes we have made. We're looking to add more products as well.
We'd like to welcome Lloyd and Louise Smith as a new road team. You will see them helping out Ken & Marilyn Murphy at the FMCA rally in Perry, GA in March and then you will see them at THE RALLY in Albuquerque, NM in mid-April. If you haven't booked your space at these shows, this will serve as a reminder to do so. The RALLY and the FMCA conventions are two of the very biggest and best rallies. As a result of the large crowds that attend there are more vendors to see and more great seminars to go to. There is always great top-name entertainment at these shows as well. You won't want to miss attending one of these great rallies. By the way, attendance at the Indio FMCA show in January set a new record.

The KlipIt Returns!
One of our most popular products ever, the KlipIt is returning. We had some supply issues last year which have been rectified and so we are pleased to bring this "Cool Little Product" back. There are some fun new colors as well! It is just amazing how many phone calls we received asking when this product would be back. We had more than 50 requests in Quartzsite alone.
The KlipIt attaches to your belt, waistband, purse or pocket and allows you to go around hands free. No more carrying your bottle in your hands, or setting it down and leaving it behind. It's great for walkers, hikers or anyone that likes to have a beverage along at all times. It works on all standard beverage bottles. Another nice little feature of this product is the handy wrench-like device that is built into it. It will help you grip the bottle cap and assist you in opening the bottle. A little tip. Place the KlipIt around the top of the bottle cap, squeeze firmly and turn the BOTTLE counter clockwise. You have more leverage doing it this way. It makes opening the bottle easier. Just SNAP it on, KlipIt to your waist and GO! The KlipIt makes a great gift and every time you use it, people will say "Where did you get that?" Keep them in the house, the car, the RV or wherever you just might have the need to use them. |

Flushing The Fresh Water Holding Tank
Last month we introduced the Water Check Test Kit and a lot of you decided it was time to check the water in your holding tanks to see if it was safe to drink. This is the only test kit of its kind available in the RV marketplace so it has been very well received.
The test determines the presence or absence of
coliform and E.coli bacteria, indicative of fecal pollution. RVers often fill up their
tanks at campgrounds that have their own wells.
These wells are not necessarily tested as often as they should be,
providing the opportunity for contaminated water to be put into the RV tank. Anyone using a well or treated water system is
susceptible to contamination by human or animal waste. In addition, most RVers do not sanitize their
tanks regularly and may not realize their tanks can be a breeding ground for
disease. Water often sits in the tank for an extended period of time and isn't drained or flushed. To ensure drinking water safety, health authorities suggest home, RV
and boat owners test their water at least twice per year. Performing the
WaterCheck™ test, will protect people from the dangers of pathogenic diseases
such as Cryptosporidium, Entamoeba, Giardia and Typhoid fever.
Last month I said that we would provide you with instructions on how to sanitize your holding tank. Here are the instructions that I received from Gary Bunzer, the RV Doctor. Gary writes articles for FMCA magazine and speaks across the nation at RV shows.
Chlorinating
the Fresh Water Plumbing Systems
Foul
or stale tasting water can not only ruin a vacation but may even be harmful.
There is usually sufficient chlorine in most city water supply systems, but if
foul tasting water persists, it may be necessary to treat the fresh water
system. Of course, the fresh water container only stores the quality of water
put in there, so be sure to taste it prior to filling up. Here's the approved
method of chlorinating the entire fresh water system:
1. Drain and flush the
fresh water tank; leave empty.
2. Mix 1/4-cup of
liquid household bleach (sodium hypochlorite) solution with one gallon of fresh
water.
3. Pour directly into
the fresh water tank.
Note:
If the RV does not a gravity fill for the fresh water tank, using a funnel,
pour the mixture directly into the fresh water hose prior to connecting it to
the city water connection.
Pour in one gallon
of the chlorine/water solution for every 15 gallons of fresh water tank
capacity. (Note: Our Funnel Filler and or the Hose Filler Adapter, could be helpful here)
4. Top off the tank
with fresh water. Remove or bypass
water purification equipment and/or filtering cartridges.
5. Turn on the water
pump and open every faucet in the RV, including exterior faucets or
showerheads.
Allow the solution
to pump through the system to the toilet, through the water heater and to every
hot and cold faucet at each sink until the distinct odor of the chlorine is
present at every fixture.
6. At the city water
inlet, using the eraser end of a pencil, push in on the check valve spring,
allowing the solution to pump out through the city water inlet until the
chlorine odor is detected in the discharge.
7. Close all the
faucets and turn off the water pump.
Allow the system to
stand for four hours. This will chlorinate and disinfect the system, including
the fresh water tank, the water heater, the faucets, the complete piping system
and all fittings to a residual level of 50 ppm (parts per million).
8. At four hours,
drain and flush the system once again and top off the water tank with fresh
water.
If
100 ppm residual concentration is required or desired, use 1/2-cup of bleach
instead of 1/4-cup with each gallon of the solution and let it stand for at
least one to two hours. Do not allow the chlorinated solution to sit longer than
four hours in the fresh water system to avoid damage to some delicate plumbing
components found in some water pumps. If the odor of the chlorine is still too
strong for your tastes, drain, flush and refill the tank until you are
satisfied. This process should be performed after any period of non-use, such as
during the spring shakedown after storage, or whenever stale or distasteful
water is experienced.
Those are the instructions that are taught to the RV Pros by RVDA, the RV Dealers Association. If you are unsure about your water the Water Check Test Kit may provide you some peace of mind.

Heavy Duty Carry Strap

A 50 amp cable is like dealing with 65 pounds of misery! Some RVers carry more than one to double the fun. The Heavy Duty Carry Strap is designed to deal with all those heavy ugly loads we have to deal with. Whether it be a 50 amp cable, a bunch of hoses, cords and cables, long heavy extension cords or welding cables, this is the simple way to deal with it. It also works great with a vacuum hose for your home or swimming pool. They aren't heavy, just awkward to carry around or store. This makes it so easy. It also comes with a grommet so you can hang things up. Judy uses one in our RV for our built in vacuum system and hangs it up with the Heavy Duty Carry Strap at one end of the bedroom closet. It is out of the way and easy to manage.
