Dear Women of Wisdom
Blessings to you this spring, a season where vibrant, colorful flowers lift our spirits. In Seattle we've had a very wet March, so when the sun has shown through those clouds, we're blessed with colors such as beautiful daffodils. Of course, we wonder when spring will really be here, and in other parts of the country we're hearing it's summer!
Regardless, it's a good time to plant not only your flowers but the seeds for new beginnings, especially after conference. We were inspired by amazing presenters such as Jean Houston, Naomi Tutu and Jean Shinoda Bolen, and energized with all the connections we made with each other.
As you continue to focus on your dreams and goals for 2012, we encourage you to stay connected with our community during the year so we can support you. I find our Community Connection workshops just as deep, moving and powerful as the conference is and I hope to see you at WOW sometime during the year. Join us for one of our quarterly community (and yummy) dinners, beginning April 24th, a monthly dance, April 6th, or at the community connection workshop May 20th.
Last month we had our annual meeting and had elections for our new council members. Welcome to the council Elise Child, Lyn Waring, and Katie-Lynn Harrison!
We'd like to invite you to participate in WOW's development by becoming an Auxiliary Council Member.
We invite anyone interested in joining the auxiliary council to attend an orientation on Sunday, April 15th from 6:30 - 8:30pm. You're also invited to join us for a potluck dinner at 5pm. If you are interested please email us at wow@womenofwisdom.org and we'll send you the details.
Last year we created this position so people could join at a level of time commitment that works for them. All that is required is attending 3-4 meetings a year, and contributing however you can. As an auxiliary member, you have full voting rights at meetings you attend, and are invited to attend our council retreats. It's been very successful and we've gain so much through the added voices in our meetings. Two auxiliary members from last year joined our Council, and 5 others are remaining on the auxiliary council for another year.
Our organization relies on volunteers, and for conference we were blessed with fabulous, generous people who contributed to the many varied roles required to manage the conference. We appreciate all the efforts towards helping WOW bring these events and programs to our community.
Currently we have a couple of important roles to fill for our organization. We're calling for a volunteer bookkeeper who can enter our finances into our quick books system, and a treasurer for the Council to help us with the financial reports.
Immediately we need an accountant to help with some revisions on last year's taxes and filling out this year's 990 form. If you know someone who can help us, please let us know. It would be great to find a person to do the work pro bono for WOW, but we are prepared to pay someone for the work. Taxes are due May 15th, so there's an urgent need. Thank you to Camey Jensen for her work in completing our bookkeeping figures for the year and also the previous work by Jennifer Sundstrom. Together they've done a lot of work to get our quick book files completed for the organization.
We're excited about 2012, and after our work this past fall on our new vision - Raising the Feminine Spirit - Transforming Our World the Council looks forward as we create something brand new to introduce at next year's conference! Stay tuned.

Women's History you have never been taught
by Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D.
 Women's history is not taught in schools or universities, meaning each woman has to learn her history on her own or not at all. This Teleclass will discuss how women's history has been lost, some important facts like the Peking man is actually the Peking woman, and rewrite some of the women back into history that have made a difference in all of our lives. This course, hoped to be the first of many, will focus on how the history was lost, the importance of spirituality and healing for ancient women, as well as accomplishments of women in the arts. Suggestions and exercises will be designed to help participants re-find and re-store this history. The course facilitator will also give suggestions on resources of Women's History and creative ways to learn about women's history.
Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D. is a Gerontologist with a specialty in aging in people with disabilities, women, and environmental design. She has presented over 15 years on-line and over 30 years of traditional classroom teaching. Her passion is women's history, she presents frequently on topics related to women's history. She is also a published author of 'Whistling up the Wind" and is currently writing a book 'Reclaiming women's lives through diaries and letters.'

Divine Nourishment / Cook Your Way Into Your Soul

Celebrating Spirit in Community with Plants

Julie Charette Nunn, Crow's Daughter, offers this 3-session exploration in shamanic herbalism with simple practices in listening, connecting and collaborating with plants. The ancient ways of deep listening will be offered through shamanic exercises, stories, writing assignments, spending time in nature and herbl crafting. Lessons will take place in your home, in your yard, and in your surrounding community. This course is seasonal in nature and will express the unique dance of each month's energy. When you complete this course, you will see the world of plants through different eyes.
Julie Charette Nunn, Crow's Daughter, joyfully teaches wise woman ways through weekly and residential shamanic herbal apprenticeships, classes and one-to-one teachings at her farm on Whidbey Island and around the Puget Sound area in Washington State. She has had a lifelong relationship with the plants of the Pacific Northwest and has been teaching for over 25 years. Among her wise teachers are the common plants, the compassionate ones. Respect is the name of the game. Over idealistic notions of loving everyone put forth by a variety of well-meaning gurus can lately be a bit too much to ask. Rather, we often find ourselves befuddled by growing feelings of hopelessness, confusion, smallness and despair as we wonder which way to row while ducking a non-stop barrage of catastrophes and casualties. I will tell you a secret: uneasiness abounds for you are now becoming more aware your little bit of a boat is really cast away on a sea of illusion. We have been sold a false bill of goods. Ouch.
As Neptune now begins its 13- year journey into Pisces (the only planet that links its actual orbit with the SOUL field of humanity on both a personal and global level) things can seem downright overwhelming for we have little experience to draw on to help us navigate oncoming and uncharted waters. And the problem with Neptune in Pisces is things can seem to grow more confusing than ever. How can you perceive, much less explain, things that are mostly beyond humanity's capacity to grasp? Yes, Virginia, the world is NOT what they have said it is...at all. Ouch again.
As a group of sentient beings we will need to make peace with just walking one step at a time, feeling our way through the fog. Some days it can feel like the darkest days we have ever known as we witness the never-ending strife both in and around us. Often it can seem we are seemingly helpless to heal the B version movie called "Humanity Gone Mad." True to form, if you ask folks if we have lost our compass most of them give an unequivocal YES!
So, what can an ordinary mortal do? Make no mistake, Neptune in Pisces will challenge us to the brink of seeming madness yet the same energy can inspire us to the heights of Mount Olympus as if we were truly dancing with the stars.
Opportunity is a word I think can be most useful now as we row our shaky little boats to a very new shore. Some of us have noticed that the old world, as we knew it, is seemingly dissolving. It is breaking up in itsy-bitsy pieces as we watch. To make matters worse, there is often a collective feeling of queasiness, kind of like having always believed the world was flat and then discovering it is not only round but there are many worlds....that it isn't just all about us after all...?
There are various human side effects to this journey of consciousness: nausea that comes and goes, dizziness, "here" one minute then feeling out of the body the next, sleep disturbances, weird body pain and stiffness, anxiety and depression with difficulty finding remedies that can help alleviate them.
