Dear Women of Wisdom
Conference has come and gone and it was amazing!
We hope you were able to join us for some of the events.
We were wow'ed by such great presenters this year - Jean Shinoda Bolen, Jean Houston, Ubaka Hill, Naomi Tutu and Imsara. Plus lots of great half day workshops - we are lucky to have such talent here in the Northwest in addition to presenters who joined us from all over - Sante Fe, Hawaii, Toronto, New Brunswick and Atlanta! The highlight for me was Saturday evening - with our exquisite performance of Shawna Carol's Goddess chant led by the talented Pamela Gerke and Rev. Judith Laxer. And that was topped off by a special party where we celebrated our community and our 20th year. The community honored me with wonderful words, and gifts. To top that was being honored by Jean Houston for the work I've done in bringing Women of Wisdom to so many people. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for her tributes. And as I said that night, I couldn't have done it without everyone who participates in this annual event, which means anyone who joins us for even one event to those who help create it, and to the presenters who share their gifts. It's an amazing time now, and women are growing in the beauty of our unique gifts. I look forward to see what WOW will evolve into as there are some exciting times ahead for us.
As I stated that night - I'm not going anywhere, I'm transitioning to a new role - from "doing" the day to day of conference to being a spokesperson for WOW and working in the overall direction with the council.We will be making our DVD's available for sale of the evening presentations by Jean Shinoda Bolen and Naomi Tutu on Thursday night, and Jean Houston with Ubaka Hill on Friday evening. We will notify you when they are available for sale on our website. Cost will be $20 including tax and shipping. So if you missed their evenings, you can still enjoy their messages.
There were several requests from people to discuss having a WOW event in other cities from women who came to the conference, so I look forward to looking into those possibilities. The time is ripe for us to branch out - so keep your eyes open to seeing us near you in the future!

We're continuing our monthly dances for women, and dinners will be on a quarterly basis, with the first one being April 24th ~ Spring - Blossoming our Potential!

Through a unique combination of exercises involving movement, voice, and breath we will heighten our observational skills - visual, auditory, and kinesthetic - providing us an awareness of what it is to be alive and to be present. We raise our consciousness through cultivating deep gratitude for our physical body - moving through space, then with others, expanding our awareness of more subtle bodies, energies, and realms.
Khorsian Blanc-Ridings, OTR, M.Ed,. facilitator of body-centered awareness workshops, is a life-long learner in spirituality, psychology, and the visual and performing arts. She has skills in the field of dance and movement (including yoga and qi-gong) focusing on body-centered awareness and through the avant-garde voice work of Alfred Wolfsohn at the Roy Hart Theatre in France. She completed sound healing training with psychotherapist and shaman Tom Kenyon.

Women's History you have never been taught
by Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D.
 Women's history is not taught in schools or universities, meaning each woman has to learn her history on her own or not at all. This Teleclass will discuss how women's history has been lost, some important facts like the Peking man is actually the Peking woman, and rewrite some of the women back into history that have made a difference in all of our lives. This course, hoped to be the first of many, will focus on how the history was lost, the importance of spirituality and healing for ancient women, as well as accomplishments of women in the arts. Suggestions and exercises will be designed to help participants re-find and re-store this history. The course facilitator will also give suggestions on resources of Women's History and creative ways to learn about women's history.
Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D. is a Gerontologist with a specialty in aging in people with disabilities, women, and environmental design. She has presented over 15 years on-line and over 30 years of traditional classroom teaching. Her passion is women's history, she presents frequently on topics related to women's history. She is also a published author of 'Whistling up the Wind" and is currently writing a book 'Reclaiming women's lives through diaries and letters.'

Celebrating Spirit in Community with Plants

Julie Charette Nunn, Crow's Daughter, offers this 3-session exploration in shamanic herbalism with simple practices in listening, connecting and collaborating with plants. The ancient ways of deep listening will be offered through shamanic exercises, stories, writing assignments, spending time in nature and herbl crafting. Lessons will take place in your home, in your yard, and in your surrounding community. This course is seasonal in nature and will express the unique dance of each month's energy. When you complete this course, you will see the world of plants through different eyes.
Julie Charette Nunn, Crow's Daughter, joyfully teaches wise woman ways through weekly and residential shamanic herbal apprenticeships, classes and one-to-one teachings at her farm on Whidbey Island and around the Puget Sound area in Washington State. She has had a lifelong relationship with the plants of the Pacific Northwest and has been teaching for over 25 years. Among her wise teachers are the common plants, the compassionate ones.  Taking Spiritual Growth Home

WOW! The 20th annual Women of Wisdom conference was fabulous! You may be experiencing powerful shifts from your conference experiences or follow up work you are doing. Sometimes it can feel difficult to take such intense learning and growth home and make a smooth re-entry with family.
You are flowing with spiritual love and energy, feeling light and joyful. Then your daughter asks you, "Hey mom, what's for dinner?" You turn around and snap at her, "I've told you three times, we are having spaghetti!" Where did that ugly, grouchy mom monster come from?!
When you are immersed in the spiritual planes, it is a place of subtleness and softness. Your being is moving in a slow, gentle way. It can feel very harsh and jarring to your soul to be in these subtle realms and then encounter the denser, more coarse energy of the physical world and the complaints, demands or troubles of family.
When you are in a place of intense spiritual growth, there are three things that can be very helpful - compassion, sacred space and breathing. Compassion helps you be gentle with yourself and to prioritize your self-care above demands or expectations of family in a way that allows for you to be gentle and firm with others. You can be soft with their hearts as you clearly state that you are taking the next half hour to be alone in your room, without interruption.
Take this time in sacred space to journal, pray, meditate or simply rest to allow the spiritual energy that is moving in you to integrate and settle into new ways of being. Integration can also be well supported by physical movement. Go for a bike ride or a walk and enjoy the feeling of your body moving. If you have younger children and want to involve them in your process, put on music and let them dance with you.
As you reflect on and integrate your spiritual process, remember to breath. Feel your breath moving in your body and let it help you embody your experience. This creates "breathing room" for what is shifting in you. When you feel like you have room to breath, it can help you be compassionate and patient with yourself and your loved ones.
Honor yourself for the work you are doing. As you engage in your spiritual growth, allowing for healing and transformation inside of your heart and spirit, you are bringing a deep and sacred blessing to all of your family. They will benefit from the higher levels of love and joy that radiate from your heart.
