Holidays Are in the Air
Holiday time in Juneau is magical, with all the hustle and bustle of any capital city combined with the raw and lush beauty of the water, mountains, and forests that surround us. Several key holiday events attract locals and visitors alike. Come help us celebrate the season.
- Alaska Public Market (November 25 - 27) An annual holiday bazaar that features arts and crafts, imports, photography, wearable art, locally-produced food products, and much more fills the halls of Centennial Hall.
- Perseverance Theatre's "A Christmas Carol" (November 25 - December 24) Charles Dickens' classic contrasts images of extreme poverty and despair with moments of light, warmth, and joy to remind us of the meaning of love and goodwill at Christmas. Tickets and show times.
- 30th Annual Gallery Walk (December 2 - 4) An entertaining evening (and following afternoons) of exploring Juneau's shops, museums and galleries. Featured artists are often available to demonstrate, sign or answer questions about their work. It's the social event of the season in Juneau.

Juneau's Peaceful Winter Wilderness
Alaska's capital city is an exciting, vibrant year-round destination for adventure seekers, but in winter it's also a restful, tranquil haven for those seeking a quieter experience where solitude is easily accessible. Stunning scenic views are available from just about any location in Juneau, but to gain true peace and quiet, consider the following.
- Jensen-Olsen Arboretum Located just past Mile 23 "out the road" on Glacier Highway, Juneau's public garden preserves the beauty of the landscape for pure aesthetic enjoyment. During winter the gardens are hushed with a covering of soft snow which frames the stunning views of Pearl Harbor, Lynn Canal, and the Chilkat Mountains.
- Shrine of St. Therese A place of outstanding beauty looking over Lynn Canal, with the Chilkat Mountains in the background, the Shrine is a serene and reverent retreat for solitude seekers. The Shrine Chapel, built out of local stone and the heart of the Shrine, is located on an island which is connected by a safe causeway.
- Hiking One of Juneau's Many Trails Alaska's capital city is fortunate to have an outstanding mix of easy, intermediate, and difficult hiking trails for visitors to enjoy. And winter is an excellent season to don your boots and head out. Well-maintained paths are softened with snow and protected by the forest canopy, creating a corridor for exploration and introspection. Trail information.
