July 2012

Greetings!

We would like to thank all of our team members who rode in the NMSS Bike MS 150 in Ft. Collins, CO to help raise awareness for Can Do MS!  There were 20 team riders this year who all sported their Can Do MS bike jersey during the two day ride.

"I think the relationships are magic. Having people you respect believe that you can do what you've set out to do is even more magical. It has really, really had a huge impact on my motivation and desire to achieve the goals that I set during the program." - Karen B.

Imagine yourself at 28 years old. You're a highly motivated and successful lawyer, living your dream working at one of the nation's most prestigious blue chip law firms. You work ten, stress-filled hours a day and end up each night exhausted on your couch. You keep telling yourself that being this tired is from your stressful job.
Cognitive Changes: Recognizing and Meeting
the Challenges

By: Deborah Miller, PhD, LISW &
Janet DeClark, MA, CCC-SLP

Based on a number of studies, it is estimated that 50% or more of people with MS will experience cognitive symptoms. Typically these symptoms are very specific to different cognitive activities. Consequently these symptoms range from mild to moderate in severity and only about 5% of people with MS experience severely disabling cognitive problems. The symptoms are important to diagnose and understand because, left unmanaged, they can have an important impact on routine daily activities.
