"WE ARE proud supporters."
After being diagnosed in high school, Carl has been living with MS for nearly 34 years. Carl chuckles and says, "I'm lucky - I got my chronic disease out of the way early and now everyone is catching up." On his way to college with a basketball scholarship, Carl was told by doctors in 1980 that the way to live a long, healthy life with MS was to stop being active and stay cool.

Couples Living With MS By: David Rintell, Ed.D, Can Do MS Programs Consultant
"In sickness and in health." Although we make this vow in earnest, when we marry (or commit to each other), we do not expect that chronic illness will enter our lives. The diagnosis of MS is life altering, not only for the patient, but also for her or his partner. Truly, both "have" MS, as the lives of both will be affected by the challenges of the illness.

Support Partners Play Important Role at CAN DO Program
Special sessions address their needs, goals, concerns and challenges
"I've never been with a group of people in which we shared so many similar stories," said Betsy, a support partner who attended the CAN DO Program with her husband, Don. "It was the best and most enlightening four days I've experienced."
Betsy gained strength from sharing with and listening to other support partners at the program.
As difficult as it is to discuss at times, the truth is, everyone in the family lives with MS, not just the person who has it. Can Do MS has led the way in providing a unique opportunity for support partners to actively participate in identifying the skills, strategies and tools needed to live fully with MS.

"So excited about another Vertical Express for Can Do MS at Squaw Valley! Of course, would be even delighted if there were any snow at Squaw Valley..."
"...But lack of great snow days means more opportunity for fundraising, like a little tequila tasting party I'm working on for Chicks on Sticks. What better than a sip of a fine reposado to encourage a more open wallet?" ~Catherine R., Vertical Express for Can Do MS Participant
