| Chapter Three |
Payday came, and Bob received his first check. A check? Bob now had to go to the bank to deposit it. He hadn't visited his bank in years. His old company had direct deposit, and all he had to do was log into the system to see his pay stub. He could also change some of his information such as address, emergency contacts and phone numbers online. The Company, his new employer, had a cryptic paper form for requesting information changes, and he heard it was hard to figure out. The forms would sometimes get lost in the approval process. When someone asked about the status of a change, it would take hours or days to track down who had the form and what the status was. How could a company still be doing business this way? Bob started wondering how anybody had time to work on future plans and products while chasing all this paper.......
The Company had a small committee that was committed to process improvement. They met once a quarter and discussed new products, marketing and employment needs. Bob was asked to join the committee. He saw this as an opportunity to share his experiences at his former employer. Maybe he could make a difference!
