Green Valley Aromatherapy
September 2011
|
Greetings!

Finally its here! "Summer" is a little late but welcome. This is our September newsletter and it is also my favorite month, regardless of the bad publicity it gets. I hear the kids whining about going back to school, Mums having to get supplies for school bought, Senior citizens remembering the wars that started in September (including the twin towers), but all that is related to people. In September the garden starts getting quieter, the sun is on your back instead of on your head, fruit and berries are ready for harvesting and the superb colours of nature are getting ready to rest. It feels as though nature has taken a deep breath and is relaxing. Try to take a leaf out of nature's book.
We have been camping most weekends and the mozzies have taken a particular liking to me this year. I have made up an extra large bottle of D-Bug for myself. I have noticed it is already getting dark sooner and its only 1 week before the kids go back to school. This can bring all sorts of issues into the home. One of my granddaughters is starting school for the first time. She is looking forward to it and is very ready for starting this new phase, while her Mum and younger sister are not.
A good recipe for kids starting school for the first time or changing schools is Lavender and Bitter Orange. It is great for dealing with anxieties, fear, and a good anti depressant. It is also a valuable lymph stimulator, analgesic, ante-bacterial, ante-septic, ante-fungal and ante-inflammatory. Along with all the positive things for starting school are the negative side effects of picking up childhood diseases, so keep their immune systems primed up.
Blend together equal parts of the Lavender and Bitter Orange Essential Oils. Add 10 drops of the blend to 10 mls of Carrier oil (Evening Primrose is a good choice) to massage their feet and legs before bedtime. If that is not possible, have them soak in a tub of warm water with 8 drops of the blend added. You can also add the blend to their stuffies, to tissues in PJ pockets or to pillowcases. This will create a calm relaxing mood and will lead to a good nights sleep. Nightmares are linked to anxieties, and even if your child is coping well with the changes, this blend is a subliminal memory of home and being nurtured.
For the older kids add some Eucalyptus Globulus to the Lavender and Orange blend and put on absorbent cards to place in their backpacks. This will give a wonderful fresh smell and have the other kids asking what is this cool aroma. As an added bonus it is all natural and will not affect allergies.
Read further on to find out about our September promotion!
Aromatically yours,
Barb

Essential Oil Profiles
Rhododendron
Our Rhododendron essential oil (Rhododendron anthopogon) is straight from Nepal.
This shrub is indigenous to Nepal and is used extensively by the Nepalese people.
It is calming, grounding, decongestant, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and is great for the repertory system. Research suggests that it may support the liver function and it is a good tonic for the adrenals.
Spiritually Rhododendron helps to heal broken lifelines for example people who have cut themselves off from their families and the past. It is excellent for creating reconciliation. Rhododendron can also be used for loss and bereavement.
Cornmint
Cornmint (Mentha Arvensis) is also known as Wild Mint.
It is a similar oil to Peppermint but contains significantly more menthol, giving it a strong minty aroma. When mixed with Shea Butter, Cornmint makes a wonderful treatment for tired aching feet. It is also helpful at reducing mental fatigue, increasing alertness and relieving nausea. Cornmint essential oil is used in soaps for it's strong fragrance.
Until September 15th, 2011, we are offering a free 5ml bottle of Cornmint with every Retail order over $75 and every Wholesale order over $150!

This is a new section for passing on recipes. tips or testimonials about essential oils.
If you have a story to share, please email admin@57aromas.com.
I love to hear from you! I love to hear what you have learned and hear about recipes you may want to pass on. This next letter is from Cindy, a customer and friend of Green Valley. I know you have heard all this before, but I find it so exciting to keep getting all this confirmation of the benefits of Essential Oils!
"Hi Barb,
About 2 months ago I was bit by a Wheel Bug, which belongs to the assassin bug family. Generally they attack other insects by injecting a poison inside them and then sucking out their insides(I know..nice!!) For the past couple months I have had a large red patch appear around the bite site. At first I was on antibiotics because they thought it was infected and it went away but then came back. Now the Dr just thinks it's an allergic reaction to the bite and wants me to take prednisone. I am highly terrified of steroids because of the harmful affects they can have on the immune system. What oils can I use in place of the prednisone to see if that helps first? I have been a long time customer of you guys and hope you can give me hope that the predisone can be avoided!! THANKS!!!
Cindy "
Hi Cindy,
I would suggest Helichrysum as this oil is anti-allergenic and is an immuno-stimulant. Its anti-inflammatory properties would also help with the actual bug bite as opposed to the rash from the allergic reaction. It would always help to use Lavender as this would calm the contact site and remove your anxiety.
Let us know if this helps.

"Hi Barb,
I just wanted to update you on the bug bite issue I emailed you about a couple weeks ago. First of all I didn't have any of the Helichrysum that you suggested for my wheel bug bite but I of course have plenty of Lavender. I used the Lavender neat on the skin and within hours the redness, itching and inflammation was gone. I decided to not take the steroids the Dr prescribed because it healed up so quickly. And now the bug bite is almost completely gone. After 3 months of fighting back and forth with this silly bug bite the aromatherapy did the trick!
Cindy"
"I have no problem with you mentioning it in the newsletter!! I have been using aromatherapy for years and love to see the benefits also. I even have my husband hooked on them for certain issues that he has. I would also like to point out that I am a nursing student and in my microbiology class last semester we did test trials for different bacteria and antibacterial products. We had Stapphylococcus aureus in petri dishes and the aromatherapy enthusiast in me had to test out Eucalyptus globulus because it is my number 1 favorite oil with my family. I was SO excited when I showed up the next week and found that the Eucalyptus killed just as much Staph and and in some cases MORE than all the other antibacterial agents we used. I am hoping to some day integrate my love for aromatherapy into nursing! Years ago I enrolled in the West Coast Institute of Aromatherapy courses but unfortunately I never finished the program. I am kicking myself right now because it could have complimented nursing so well. Maybe someday after nursing school I can complete it."
Cindy
Thank-you for your letters Cindy, we will follow your career with interest. I am sure you will complete your Aromatherapy studies. We need more people like you introducing it to hospitals and clinics. Green Valley is getting more hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics to our customer base, so something must be working.
